Doctor Who game starring Capaldi teaches kids to code
The Doctor and the Dalek is a web-based game intended to teach kids age 6 to 12 how to code, starring a friendly Dalek and The Doctor as portrayed by Peter Capaldi. Capaldi lends his voice to the game and it's written by series writer Phil Ford. The Doctor and the Dalek is part of the BBC's Make it Digital initiative, which aims to inspire youngsters to get creative with coding and digital technology. For those in the UK, the game will be available for free at bbc.co.uk/cbbc beginning Wednesday, October 22. See a video of the game in action at the BBC. [Image: BBC]

WoW Moviewatch: The End of Warlords
Okay, we admit: this machinima probably isn't the actual ending to Warlords of Draenor, so despite the title it's probably not a spoiler -- but we're convinced it would be awesome if it were. Fans of long-lived television series Doctor Who will particularly appreciate this machinima (though non-fans may be confused), which merges the two franchises with a story that fits neatly into both. (And it also helps explain that whole time travel thing we're doing in Warlords in the first place.) The editing helps sell the story, neatly merging elements from different sources into a finished product that's believable... or at least as believable as time-traveling orcs can possibly be. Doctor Who DLC wibbles, wobbles to Minecraft Xbox 360 [Update]
A Doctor Who skin pack (that still sounds gross) hits Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition in September, priced at $3. The pack includes the Daleks, other enemies, six Doctors and each of their companions, starting with a version based on current Doctor Peter Capaldi and his companion, Clara, played by Jenna Coleman. At least, that's what the promo images suggest. While PlayXBLA lists the included Doctor as the twelfth, Xbox Wire says this pack comes with the eleventh Doctor. The Minecraft images show Capaldi, who is the twelfth Doctor, though after that messy business with the War Doctor, an incarnation of the Doctor existing between his eighth and ninth regenerations, the whole count is out of whack. We understand that the numbers thing is a little confusing. That said, the images suggest Peter Capaldi's Doctor will appear in Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition this September, alongside Jenna Coleman and some Daleks. That's settled. This is the first of many Doctor Who skin packs, which promise to deliver "a wide selection of the best characters from the entire 50 years of Doctor Who," Microsoft says. Update: It's 100 percent, definitely, for sure the twelfth Doctor in the first Doctor Who skin pack, Microsoft tells Joystiq. Huzzah (or whatever Capaldi's catchphrase would be)!
'Doctor Who' is coming to 'Minecraft' on Xbox 360 next month
Simply put, Doctor Who and Minecraft are two worldwide sensations, each extremely popular in their own entertainment category. Thus, it just kind of makes sense to bring the two together. Thankfully for those of you who are into both, Microsoft and the BBC have partnered up to do exactly that, by way of digital downloadable content for Minecraft on the Xbox 360. Starting next month, players will have access to character packs from Doctor Who, including skins of The Doctor himself, his companions and his mad enemies -- all from throughout the show's entire history, not only from most recent seasons. No word yet on if this also applies to the upcoming Xbox One edition of Minecraft, but it wouldn't surprise us if that was the case.

Allons-y! Doctor Who: Legacy gets new companions, levels
The fabric of space-time gets a little wibbly-wobbly today, when The Doctor from the BBC's Doctor Who invades multiple comic books and the mobile Doctor Who: Legacy game. Well, actually it's not The Doctor who we're surprised to see, but two of his companions: Gabriella Gonzalez and Alice Obiefune. These new characters will simultaneously debut in Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #1, Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #1 and Doctor Who: Legacy. Legacy players looking to add the companions to their roster of allies will have to pick up copies of the new comics, each of which contain an exclusive link to a code used to unlock Gabriella and Alice, as well as new levels and enemies taken from the comics. Copies should be available either through your local comic shop or online via publisher Titan Comics. "It's a real delight for us that Gabby and Alice can now go on new adventures with the Doctor in between issues – and we look forward to sharing more comics-driven content through Legacy in the future," Doctor Who comics editor Andrew James said in a related press release. Doctor Who: Legacy update may be difficult to Master
The first major update to Doctor Who: Legacy, the free-to-play iOS and Android puzzle game based on the BBC's sci-fi universe, will introduce longtime series villain The Master as well as a new Perk system, new Expert mode levels and new versions of The Doctor to play as. The Master will appear as he did when he was played by Roger Delgado, Peter Pratt and John Simms, while the game will add the First, Second, Ninth and War Doctors - played by William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Christopher Eccleston and John Hurt, respectively. The game's new Perk system will allow players to customize their characters and companions, unlocking abilities as you progress through the new content. If you're feeling particularly perplexed by some of Legacy's puzzles, just remember: YANA - you are not alone. No, seriously, you've got companions to help you out. Use 'em and stuff. [Image: BBC]
Doctor Who: The Adventure Games on Steam, ready to EXTERMINATE your wallet
Allons-y! The TARDIS has landed on Steam, bringing with it the Doctor and his faithful companion, Amy Pond. BBC's Doctor Who: The Adventure Games are now available through Valve's digital distribution service for the Earthly sum of $19.99. These episodic games follow Matt Smith's version of the character through five stories, including "City of the Daleks," "Blood of the Cybermen," and "Shadows of the Vashta Nerada." Of course, if you live in the UK, this is all moot. You can thwart interstellar villains and save the universe with a sassy sidekick for free. Also yes, we know we combined a reference to Tennant's Doctor with information about Smith's in the opening, there. But don't worry, that seeming disconnect will be retconned faster than you can say "timey-wimey, wibbly-wobbly." [Image: BBC]
Doctor Who Worlds in Time shutting down today
In case you forgot, there was a Doctor Who pseudo-MMO. We say was because as of today Worlds in Time is shutting down. If this is the first you've heard of it, well, we're sorry.
Hold tight and pretend it's a plan! Doctor Who MMO shutting down
Less than two years after launching, the free-to-play Doctor Who MMO, Worlds in Time, is shutting down with no chance of regeneration. "The Worlds in Time game will cease operation on February 28th, 2014," a banner at the top of the game's site reads. Microtransactions for the game have already been suspended, MCV reports. Developed by Sega-owned Three Rings, Doctor Who: Worlds in Time was a cartoonish adventure based on the long-running BBC series with gameplay composed mostly of mini-game puzzles. Three Rings announced the game in February 2011 and finally launched the project in March 2012. The good Doctor lives on in games with Doctor Who Legacy, a free-to-play puzzle-RPG from Tiny Rebel Games and Seed Studio, available on iOS and Android.
Doctor Who: Worlds in Time shutting down
It's a day that ends in 'Y,' which means that somewhere someone is shepherding a free-to-play pseudo-MMO through its death rattle. Today that title is Doctor Who: Worlds in Time, a browser-based thing from developer Three Rings that's been operating since March of 2012. According to the official website, the game will shut down on February 28th. Microtransaction services have already been suspended.
