In this latest burst of time-lapse Laika Believes concept artwork from the folks at Minicore Studios, artist Devin Lawson breathes life into a distinctly ominous-looking cyber elephant. Well, we say life – in this case "soulless unending servitude" may be more appropriate.

Laika Believes, Minicore Studios' alternate history action-RPG (starring a robot dog), will feature at least one massive cybernetic battle whale if the above speed-drawing video is any indication. Watch artist Devin Lawson will a whale into existence, Green Lantern-style, over the chiptune strings of the game's soundtrack.

Star Citizen may be a spaceship game at heart, but Cloud Imperium's recent updates have begun to focus on the title's sexy sci-fi character models. The latest example is the UEE Marine pictured above, which Star Citizen creator Chris Roberts showed off at last weekend's SXSW panel. The artwork, which includes a full-body shot and helmet closeups, was done by artist Rob McKinnon. Star Citizen's website says that more info on Roberts' panel appearances will be available later this week. In the meantime, you can click past the cut to see all the art.

  • Injustice: Gods Among Us' alternative costumes for Harley Quinn, Bane

A small care package of delightfully intriguing Injustice: Gods Among Us artwork has been delivered to the fighting-focused folks over at Shoryuken, containing both concept art and a look at what are presumably the first of many alternate costumes for Harley Quinn and Bane.Harley's new digs, as seen above, are much closer to her previous iterations than her default Injustice costume, with the most appropriate comparison being to her appearance in Batman: Arkham City. The big difference here, besides the return to a biker aesthetic, is the fact that her hair has been changed to its correct original blonde, rather than the New 52-inspired red/green default.Meanwhile, Bane's alternative look is much more techno than his primary appearance, with a mask that says "grim reaper" more than "luchador" and a green chest repository of Venom somewhat reminiscent of Soul Calibur's Astaroth. Hit the source link below for the full gallery of screenshots and concept art for both characters.

Fans of From Software's Demon's Souls and Dark Souls games sure like a challenge. While Dark Souls 2 will be "more understandable," we're expecting that it will retain the difficulty curve set by the previous games.Since we really don't know what to make of the recent pieces of concept art for Dark Souls 2 seen in the gallery below, we figure it's just another way the series is beating our brains up. %Gallery-174006%

Slant Six, developer of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, was rumored to be working on Star Wars: Battlefront Online before being hit with layoffs in April 2010 (not to be confused with the studio's layoffs from June of this year). The rumored project was canceled, and leaked concept art pieces supposedly from that game were recently found by Siliconera, such as the one seen above, which can be seen at the source link below. While it's nice to look at what could have been, Slant Six ultimately survived and launched free-to-play and Activision Mobile-published iOS game The Bowling Dead in late November this year.

Bungie's Destiny is "designed for your inner seven-year old," according to company co-founder Jason Jones. IGN reports that the mysterious sci-fi shooter is aiming at accessibility, with gameplay that is "social at its core" and featuring "a world to explore with friends, both old and new." The quotes come from an ad agency document leaked to IGN, which Bungie has since confirmed as authentic. There's still no word on whether or not the title is an MMO, but there is a gallery of gorgeous concept art on display at the source link below.

While hardcore Guild Wars players probably knew to expect it, the news that Wintersday is coming to Guild Wars 2 is welcome nevertheless! ArenaNet has just announced that the game's second holiday will be arriving on December 14th and will continue until January 3rd. Modern Wintersday is a Tyrian holiday that binds several different celebrations together with the mutual love of toys. An Asuran Santa Claus, Toymaker Tixx, will be traveling to all of the major cities to hand out toys to the good little boys and girls. And yes, that means you, even though you've been flirting with the "naughty list" this year. The official Wintersday page is sparse as of yet, but keen-eyed visitors can spot some cool pieces of concept art, including one of Tixx's awesome airship.

  • Massively Exclusive: An interview with WildStar art director Matt Mocarski

WildStar doesn't look like anything else out right now. We're not just talking about the game's mechanics; the game's stylized graphics make it look distinct. There's a lot of unique visual elements in the game, from its opening cinematic to the most recent screenshots, and while you might not like the more stylized approach, you can't say that it lacks personality. This comes with its own set of challenges, though. After all, creating stylized graphics for a game means you're not just making the best-looking environments possible; you're also creating a whole new aesthetic and making environments that make sense within that style. We had a chance to ask WildStar's art director Matt Mocarski a few questions about the process of putting the game's unique look together, and he provided us some excellent insights into bringing the visuals from concept to reality. Whether you're a fan of the game in specific or stylized art in general, take a look at the full interview past the break.

Organizers of The London Games Festival's large exhibition of video game-related art, which concluded in October, are going to auction off all of the pieces on display for charity's sake. There are over 100 works going out, covering games like Batman: Arkham City, Fable 3, and Dishonored. All of the profit from the auction will go to support SpecialEffect, a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for anyone with disabilities. You can browse through the gallery of art on the Festival's website right now, and they're also taking bids on all pieces at this time. Not all of the art is available for auction right away, but eventually it'll all be up for offer, with new weekly pieces up until December 3. If there's something in there that floats your boat and you feel like paying a little bit of money to charity for some great art, bid away.

Aion's 4.0 patch has been getting more and more interesting ever since NCsoft hinted that it would bring three new classes into the game. We've since learned about the Troubadour and the Gunslinger, but 4.0 is about more than just classes. An official news post today introduced a new region that will be coming in 4.0. Katalam, a lush, verdant region will be awaiting players once the patch hits. In addition to the name, the news post showed off some concept art featuring a mountainside fortress, a plains fortress, some old temple-lookin' thing, and a flying fortress. We don't know anything else about the region yet, but hit up Katalam's introduction to drool over the scenery for yourself.

A few small details and concept art for Dragon Age 3: Inquisition were revealed during a BioWare panel at the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo today thanks to the live-tweeting work of Cameron Lee, a producer on the game.Namely, Cinematic Designer John Perry said that "he's had a longer pre-production on Dragon Age 3 than any other BioWare project he's worked on," and that "one level in Dragon Age 3 is as big as all of Dragon Age 2's levels." Creative Director Mike Laidlaw noted that players will be human in the game, and that "customization is going to be bigger than Dragon Age: Origins."BioWare GM Aaryn Flynn posted a picture to Twitter of the backs of event attendees' heads, which happened to include concept art for the game in the background. As nice as those heads are, we will update when the actual art is available. Dragon Age 3: Inquisition is in development and slated for a late 2013 release.

  • Final Fantasy XIV shows off A Realm Reborn on the PlayStation 3

When Final Fantasy XIV first launched, it was with the promise of a PlayStation 3 version in the near future. That was before the game underwent numerous staff changes, and after two years, it may have seemed to fans as if the game would never come to consoles. But the PlayStation 3 version is a reality, and the team at Square-Enix has released new screenshots of the game's UI and in-game graphics on the console version to prove it. The overall look is a bit cleaner than the PC version of the UI that players have seen previously, although the graphics are a bit softer around the edges. But it's still recognizably the same game. This batch also includes some concept art for new role-focused chocobo barding, something that's sure to excite fans of the yellow birds. Take a look at the gallery for all of the screenshots and concept art. [Source: Square-Enix press release] %Gallery-157176%

  • iOS Task Switcher concept explores feature's potential

    10.09.2012

The Verge forums user Sentry posted the concept art you see above for the (underutilized) iOS task switcher, and I think it's awesome. Sentry's vision adds a lot of worthwhile information to the multitask bar without sacrificing the clear layout. The app thumbnails are great, but I really like the various controls for music, WiFi and Bluetooth. It's such a pain to have to dig down into the Settings app every time I need to switch one of those on my phone or iPad, and having them accessible with just a double-tap and a swipe would be excellent. I already heavily use the audio controls that pop up when you double tap the iOS Home button while your device is locked, and sliding them into the task switcher seems like a no brainer. iOS 6, of course, was just released, so we're now waiting for Apple to tell us what's next with the portable operating system. Hopefully, an excellent revamp of the task switcher like this is being worked on right now. [via RazorianFly]

  • ArenaNet celebrates concept artists, sheds light on WvW queues [Updated]

    09.21.2012

One of ArenaNet's main selling points for Guild Wars 2 is the game's art direction. In recognition of that, the studio has begun a series of weekly interviews, which kicked off with a chat with Concept Artist Team Lead Jamie Ro. After getting her start in Auckland, New Zealand, Ro worked on developing a new style of art once she got to the States. She's pleased to be on a team with "some of the most talented people in the industry" whose "support and friendly competition" keep her motivated, and she believes that the diversity of artists and art styles represented in the concept art department is a real strength of the team. Head on over to the official interview to see all of what she has to say. In other Guild Wars 2 news, Mike Ferguson has been busy updating players about World vs World queue numbers. About 30% of Guild Wars 2 players queued up for WvW on the day that his data was taken, and about 3% of the players who were queued up didn't get in during that time. Ferguson says that the team is "looking at a number of short term and long term solutions" to help get more people playing and fewer people queuing. There are a lot of charts to be seen, so take a gander at the NA and EU server posts to see what's up. [Update: The team also plans to limit world transfers to one per 24 hours in an attempt to limit WvW exploits.]

Tomorrow will see a bigger Free Realms than ever before, as SOE is adding a new zone to the game: Sunstone Valley. To tide us over until the release, the studio released a video of Development Artist Misty Michelle giving us a sneak peek of the region. In the video, Michelle delivers both concept art and a few brief clips of Sunstone's environs. "We definitely wanted to go with a new theme," she said, "something players haven't gotten to experience before." Check out the video for yourself after the jump and let us know what you think!

Heavenly Sword 2 will likely never see the light of day, but concept art that's reportedly from the deceased project is making the internet rounds today. Although the origin of the art is muddy, Siliconera reports the concept art shows the Ravens and the Raven King, who were the samurai-inspired antagonists, along with other characters and sets for the sequel.Sony canceled the Sony Cambridge-helmed sequel back in 2008. The original game was developed by Ninja Theory, which is currently working on the new Devil May Cry.
