Capcom Japan has dated the fall line of Super Street Fighter IV apparel. In fact, it's more like the fall, winter and spring line, as the company will trickle out the DLC packs (it's been teasing) in seven 5-costume releases; beginning in late October and culminating in a discounted complete set, featuring all 35 new outfits, on April 26, 2011. Complete details are posted after the break. (The costume packs have only been dated and priced for Japan, but the information is expected to apply to North America as well.) Oh! What about ... ? Nope ... no sign of Yun and Yang yet.%Gallery-104051%

  • The Daily Grind: How do you like your character customization?

SOE's Jens Andersen recently provoked a bit of a discussion with his comments on DC Universe Online's character customization options. In a nutshell, he intimated that they're somewhat limited initially and devoid of excessive "fluff" in order to give players something to strive for as they build their avatars. This is something of a departure from the tradition established by earlier superhero MMOs. City of Heroes and Champions Online both feature absurdly awesome amounts of individuality and costume customization potential. Even older, non-superhero games such as Aion and Star Wars Galaxies are renowned for the unique looks possible with their extensive character creation tools. That, dear Massively readers, brings us to the question of the day. Do you buy into Andersen's theory that costume and character individuality is a worthwhile carrot, or do you prefer the CoH/Champions method of options, options, and more options from the get-go? How do you like your character customization?

Have you spent the days following the announcement of Super Street Fighter IV's upcoming DLC wardrobe change attempting to discern the new garments from the fuzzy silhouettes that were teased? Discern no longer, friends -- series producer Yoshinori Ono recently took to the Twitters to show off some concept art for Ryu, Chun-Li, Fei Long, Cammy, Juri and Sakura's new duds. Check them all out in the gallery below. Now, we're far from fashion experts, but we can't help but take umbrage with a few of these designs. Like, Sakura? Do you know how difficult it is to perform crushing high kicks while wearing floral flip-flops? And Fei Long? It's after Labor Day, dude. Your whole situation is jacked. And Cammy? No. Don't. You can't. %Gallery-101879%

  • Scott Pilgrim Strikes Back against the Xbox Live Avatar store

So, Xbox 360 owners can't get their hands on Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game for about two more weeks -- however, rather than stew in a broth of your own jealousy, you can recreate all the action of the game by dressing your Avatar up like its mischievous protagonist. Well, maybe not all the action. A whole mess of stylish, Pilgrim-inspired duds were recently added to the Avatar storefront, including Scott's ruby red bass guitar, Ramona Flowers' begoggled outfit and a handful of tees featuring sprites from the game. Also added to the storefront were a whole bunch of Star Wars outfits as part of The Empire Strikes Back's 30th Anniversary celebration. If you felt like shelling out the cash, you might be able to mix and match the ensembles of Scott Pilgrim and Han Solo, thereby creating the raddest fictional character on the planet.

  • Super Street Fighter IV's brawlers getting new DLC outfits this fall

We wouldn't blame you for confusing yesterday's Street Fighter-focused Comic-Con panel for a wedding ceremony -- after all, it contained announcements of something old, something new, something borrowed (that is to say, fighters from Tekken) and ... well, Chun-Li's new outfit is blue, isn't it? Fine, the analogy doesn't quite work, but the fact remains: Series producer Yoshinori Ono revealed that all of Super Street Fighter IV's characters would receive new outfits in a DLC pack to be released this fall. Kotaku caught an image of the slide showing off some of these new outfits, including a Catwoman-esque get-up for Cammy, and a nightmarish, open-chested leather suit for Rufus. Note that we're using "nightmarish" in the literal sense, here. As in: "We plan to have nightmares about this, possibly as soon as tonight."

You didn't think that Peter Parker's wardrobe would only contain four outfits in his upcoming outing, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, did you? No, no sir. Revealed during Marvel's Comic-Con panel were a handful of new costumes that will be unlockable in-game -- a few of which will be instantly unlockable as pre-order bonuses from select retailers: Scarlet Spider (unlock code included with Kmart pre-order) Negative Zone Spider-Man (unlock code included with Best Buy pre-order) Spider-Armor (pictured) Mangaverse Spider-Man Additionally, the previously revealed GameStop-exclusive Cosmic costume (which includes variants for each dimension) and the Iron Spider-Man suit featured in the 2099 universe (and immediately unlockable with an Amazon pre-order) were also shown at the panel. It's as yet unclear if the newly announced costumes will be tied to certain dimensions within the game or wearable throughout, like the Cosmic getup. [Update: Clarified details about the nature of the pre-order bonuses and previously announced costumes.]

  • Star Trek Online adds more C-Store options and controversy [Update]

There's a pattern that seems to repeat itself every time Cryptic adds new items to Star Trek Online's C-Store -- or at least, a sequence of events wherein players are at first excited, then angry or annoyed when the prices are revealed. A bunch of new items have been added to the store: two additional costume slots (not on the website at the moment), two additional ship slots, and two additional bridge officer spots. The trouble arises with the handling of the upgrades, particularly with the new costume slots, as they're counted on a per-character basis. A similar upgrade is available in the store for Champions Online, for the exact same price -- but it increases the number of costumes available on every character rather than just the character it's purchased on. The per-character upgrades, coupled with a reduced importance for costumes in Star Trek Online, all help make many players feel a bit shorted by the price tag. Others are arguing that the add-on is only $2.50, an argument that's gone on at length on the official forums. Controversy is nothing new to the game, but this much debate over a fairly minor item leads one to be a bit curious about what reception future items might find. [Update: Cryptic has contacted us with news on upcoming changes to this system, "We're going to change the way the costume slot purchases work so they become account-wide rather than per-character. And, of course, our customer service department will be able to assist anyone who purchased the upgrade multiple times to cover multiple characters."] [Thanks to Cap for the tip!]

Kiel Johnson and Klai Brown built this 8-bit costume for a Toshiba ad. Made of bits of high density foam glued together, the wearable, pixelated version of Gary looks surprisingly like the actual Gary, though possibly a bit handsomer (in our opinion). Hit up the source for a lot more photos of the process of Gary's construction. Also hit up the coverage link for videos of the Garys in action.

With all the characters growing organic spines and shooting bio-electricity at foes, the new City of Heroes Mutant Super Booster seems like an addition that the game has long been awaiting. While yesterday saw a giveaway for several codes by the Paragon Studios team, today is the official launch where everyone can enjoy the new costumes, emotes, and bonus power. The first is the most eye-catching of the setup, naturally, and we've included a gallery of both the in-game art and concept art for the new Bioluminescent and Organic Armor costume sets. New costume change emotes are also par for the course, with this booster adding a triad that includes the supremely freaky Rapid Boil emote. (The Facebook video does it justice in both accuracy and freakiness.) Last but not least is the new innate power Secondary Mutation, which allows you to unleash the latent power of your DNA for a random effect, usually involving self-buffs of varying duration. City of Heroes players will find plenty to enjoy with the newest booster, so check out the gallery and start boiling yourself a new costume. %Gallery-96158%

  • Lost Pages of Taborea: Costume Killer

    by

If you play MMOs long enough, you may find yourself running across glitches or mechanics with interesting side effects. Sometimes these side effects can be beneficial to your gameplay because they circumvent difficult parts of a game. Maybe jumping at just the right spot lets you walk on air and cross a cavern, or maybe certain spells and items give beneficial effects which allow you to down the Lich King. These types of loopholes have always interested me from a psychological perspective. They present a moral gray area for players to make a decision. On one hand, nothing is being used that isn't already in the game. There are no outside programs or hacking of any kind, but the mechanics of these unintentional easter eggs seem to tiptoe around what are supposed to be challenges. Runes of Magic has its own gray area that affects the PK system on PvP servers. I'll give you the gist of it, what it results in, and my opinion on whether players should be using it or not.

  • Man recreates Iron Man suit so amazing we never even noticed it (video)

We don't know how we missed this the first time it was making the rounds on the internet -- but we have a theory. Twenty five-year old Iron Man fanatic Anthony Le spent one month and over $4,000 making the Iron Man (well, War Machine, actually) suit you see above (and in the video below). It's constructed mostly of high-impact urethane and has a resin helmet which was made from a clay mold. It's incredibly impressive, and insanely detailed -- and it looks just like Iron Man. So yeah, the first time we saw this, we probably just assumed we were looking at the real Iron Man and moved on without ever investigating or reading the text. And for that, we are truly sorry.

If you are a Guild Wars fan who guessed that new costumes were coming, this will come as absolutely no surprise to you. We've all been following the OBEY/DISMANTLE campaign since the latter half of March, and the story has been growing both in and out of game. ArenaNet sprung the new costumes on the community yesterday afternoon, giving fans the chance to show their allegiance to the world. The Shining Blade and White Mantle costumes are currently available in a promotion like the one offered with the Grenth and Dwayna costumes: until May 31st, you can purchase both sets for $9.99. The purchase price for individual sets is $6.99, so the limited offer is a pretty good deal. The costumes, once purchased, are account-wide and include costumes for both your male and female charactes. Want a set and can't fit it into your budget? Keep an eye on Massively and you just may score a free set. NCsoft has generously given us some costume codes to give away -- watch for that giveaway later today!

  • Mass Effect 2 'Alternate Appearance Pack' DLC adds new costumes

According to BioWare, an upcoming DLC pack for Mass Effect 2 -- the Alternate Appearance Pack -- will feature new outfits for "your favorite squad members." Apparently, you don't like Miranda, Jacob, Grunt or Mordin, because this pack includes new costumes for Garrus, Thane, and Jack. While these new outfits seem like an appropriate fit for the Cerberus Network, this is actually the second announced premium DLC offering for Mass Effect 2. Available on March 23rd, the pack will set you back $2 on Xbox 360 or PC. Let's hope the upcoming Kasumi's Stolen Memories add-on will be a bit more reasonably priced than these costumes. [Image source: Shoryuken] Based on some leaked shots of a supposed Super Street Fighter IV theme coming to the Xbox 360 (spotted by Shoryuken), Capcom's cast of brawlers are getting some fresh threads. In the case of Dee Jay above, it looks like he's getting a time machine back to the early '90s when those pants were still cool. But, we digress. These costumes look all well and good, but what about newcomer Hakan? How do you clothe a man perpetually covered in baby oil? [Via Kotaku]

PSA: RE5 'Lost in Nightmares' DLC out now for $5, Costume Pack for $2

As expected, the first of two Resident Evil 5 expansion episodes, "Lost in Nightmares," has been released today on Xbox Live (tomorrow on PSN) for the unterrifying price of 400 ($5). An additional Costume Pack, also the first of two, has hit the Marketplace as well, for 180 ($2), and joins the free Extra Figures DLC that appeared on Monday. Capcom has also confirmed that the second episode, "Desperate Escape," previously dated for March 3 and 4 on XBLM and PSN, respectively, will also launch at the 400 / $4.99 price point and be joined by Costume Pack 2 (180 / $1.99). Finally, on March 9, Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition will hit retail, combining all of the aforementioned DLC (on the PS3 disc; through vouchers in Xbox 360 copies) with the original game for $50; a not-so discounted bundle for anyone who hasn't picked up the original RE5 (now $30), which was released last March. So, if you're not too interested in piloting air ships and wranglin' chocobos that week, Chris and Sheva have got your back. Will you have theirs? Hmm? %Gallery-78541% Shortcut: Purchase Lost in Nightmares, Costume Pack 1 and/or Resident Evil 5 (full game download) [via Xbox.com]

World of WarCrafts spotlights art and creativity by WoW players, including fan art, cooking, comics, cosplay, music and fan fiction. Show us how you express yourself; contact our tips line (attention: World of WarCrafts) with your not-for-profit, WoW-inspired creations. It's another week of catch-up this week, as we pull out the older submissions we didn't have the opportunity to feature in 2009. First up: digital art of Illidan Stormrage, a school project from l1onh3art of DeviantArt. We were completely taken in by the realism -- we thought it was a sculpture at first, too -- but the work is actually done with a digital tool called ZBrush. We can safely say that while this may not be an actual bust, it's definitely no "bust" when it comes to creativity!
