  • Motorola kicks off its Moto X do-over sale with extra stock (update: sold out)

    by

    12.04.2013

After wannabe buyers failed to get a Moto X for $150 off on Cyber Monday due to higher-than-expected demand and problems with MotoMaker, Motorola announced two new sale days. The first is today, with another chance next Monday (December 9th) and there's a silver lining if you were skunked before. Google's handset arm said that it has increased the stock available for both days, meaning there's now a better chance of nabbing one at a discount. You'll need to register for the promotion (at the source) either today or Monday starting at noon EST, at which point you'll get a code if any handsets are left. You can then take up to a week to customize and order one for the contract-free $349 price. The whole debacle at least shows that folks still want a Moto X, despite rumors of tepid sales -- just not at the original price. Update: It seems that Motorola has inherited Google's inability to estimate demand, because today's allotment of discounted Moto X's has already been snapped up. As is now noted on the site, you've got one more shot at it on Monday, December 9th at 12 noon EST.

  • Motorola botches Moto X Cyber Monday sale, offers buyers 'we're sorry' Wednesday

Remember that $349 off-contract Moto X deal we mentioned in our Cyber Monday roundup? That didn't exactly go to plan. According to Motorola, insufficient pre-sale testing and overwhelming demand crippled the MotoMaker customization engine, crashing the website and leaving droves of orders unfilled. It's embarrassing, to be sure, and Motorola's CEO is personally apologizing for the flub. "On behalf of all Motorolans, I apologize for what occurred today," Dennis Woodside wrote on the company's blog. To placate frustrated buyers, Woodside says the company is repeating the sale this Wednesday, reinforcing both the MotoMaker website and its stock of phones. "We will also add an additional promotional day on Monday, December 9," the CEO stated. "I appreciate your understanding as we get this fixed in time for Wednesday and Monday." Two extra days to mull over impulse buying a new phone? Sounds like a decent apology to us. Check out the company's official statement at the source link below.

  • Cyber Monday deals for gamers

You've all seen the $4.99 World of Warcraft deal, but if you're looking to speed up your gaming PC or get your hands on some new peripherals, Cyber Monday is going to be one of your last big sale days before Christmas. Here's a quick roundup of some of the US-based deals out there. Starting with the peripherals, Steelseries is running a Cyber Monday sale which includes some WoW mice and mouse pads at up to 40% off. They also come with a free set of touchscreen controls for your tablet and free shipping. You'll also find some headsets and other accessories on sale at Steelseries. Once you make the move to a mechanical keyboard, there's no going back. Newegg has one on sale for $49.99 after rebate. They also have a 27" IPS monitor half price at $199.99. PC hardware deals I believe that the single greatest upgrade you can make for your PC's overall performance is to get a SSD (solid state drive). Even a small sized one will be enough to hold your Windows installation, some applications, and a few games including WoW. Games will load quicker, and your entire PC experience is smoother and more responsive. Amazon.com has a large list of SSDs on sale, as does Newegg.com. A good rule of thumb for SSDs is that anything 60 cents per GB or below is a pretty good deal, but you will obviously pay quite a bit more for performance brands.

  • Sony Online Entertainment offers bonus Cyber Monday cash

    12.02.2013

Cyber Monday is like Black Friday without the waiting in line or the limited-stock items left on shipping pallets throughout the store or any of that insanity. But it's very similar insofar as you can find deals that are theoretically meant to be for others but wind up mostly being presents to yourself. Case in point, Sony Online Entertainment's sale today on Station Cash. No, it's not cheaper to buy, but you get a lot more for what you buy. Until 11:59 p.m. PST today, all Station Cash purchases receive a bonus 25% Station Cash above and beyond the normal amount. That's not counting various games holding their own sales within the in-game marketplace, meaning that you could wind up with more Station Cash and individual items costing less money. So it's sort of like everybody winning, except it's really just you winning multiple times. But get on the deal soon before it evaporates.

Pick up a holiday Kindle over the weekend? According to today's Amazon announcement, the chances are pretty good that you did. The mega-retailer sent out a note today calling Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2012 "the best ever for the Kindle family." In fact, Monday was reportedly the biggest day ever for worldwide Kindle sales, thanks in part to a sale on the Fire. Amazon says it has "more than double[d]" last year's numbers. The line, which currently includes the entry-level Kindle, the Paperwhite and the Fire, among others, has also been eating up a good chunk of the site's worldwide best seller spots. More sales info can be found in the source link below.
