Come and get these downloads while they're hot. We're a bit late with this post so they've cooled down a bit, but nevertheless the following still requires your attention. In celebration of the Leipzig Games Convention Sony yesterday released a whole load of new stuff onto the European PSN. The full list is below, but we feel we must begin with a disclaimer; the Folklore demo will only be available until the end of August. Here's the full list of new content: Folklore demo (free) Heavenly Sword Anime episode 3 (free) Heavenly Sword Making-Of episode 3 (free) 3 Warhawk trailers (all free) PSN Software Showcase video (free) Heavenly Sword trailer (free) Snake Ball trailer (free) PlayStation Eye showcase video (free) Metal Gear Solid 4 demonstration video (free) Stranglehold trailer (free) Unreal Tournament 3 trailer (free) Reminder (We know how you people like to skip the blurb and jump straight to the list): The Folklore demo will be available only until the end of August. It's time to celebrate! Weeks like this are what the next-gen/current-gen/whatevs is all about. Check it out:US Games Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 European Games Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 Asian Games Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 That's right, GRAW 2 is the first true world-wide game release on the PS3. And it doesn't stop here. Come September we'll see this happen more and more often. Heavenly Sword and Warhawk (the downloadable version, at least) will be obtainable within days of each other. So while PS3 games are region free, soon it won't even matter. If you do fancy importing GRAW 2, however, the option is there. Release dates change constantly subject according to the whims of the fates, so be sure to check with your local shop before heading out.

Threespeech has again posted today's PSN update for the whole world to weep over. The update itself isn't up yet, but the following is what we can expect when it finally does arrive: Armoured Core 4 Demo (free) Heavenly Sword Anime episode 2 (free) Heavenly Sword Making-of episode 2 (free) Another fairly dire update. Honestly, has anyone not downloaded the Armoured Core 4 demo from the US store yet? It's been up for weeks. The Heavenly Sword anime episode will be an entertaining 5 minutes or so, but we expect more. Still waiting on Blast Factor: Advanced Research here, Sony. Make it happen.

So we hear that there's this game coming out this week. "Madden" we think it's called. It's supposed to be a pretty big deal. It better be, as it's the only game we're going to see released until the end of this month. Full release list is as follows: US Games Madden NFL 08 EU Games No new releases Asian Games No new releases Don't forget, non-American American football fans, PS3s are region free. So feel free to import this game like crazy, if you want. Release dates are constantly subject to change, so call ahead before wasting a trip to the shops.

The PSN itself hasn't been updated yet, but we've got a pretty good idea of what to expect later today thanks to ThreeSpeech. Check below for the full list. Gran Turismo PS Premiere Event Trailer (free) Heavenly Sword Legend of the Sword video (free) Heavenly Sword Making of video (free) Ghost Rider movie trailer (free) The Covenant movie trailer (free) Sony, Sony, Sony. What happened? Things were going so well. Where's Piyotama? Whether we actually want it or not is besides the point. Where's Blast Factor Advanced Research? Where are our demos? Ratchet and Clank and Lair have been got finished demos ready to go, so where are they? Maybe we'll see one of them on the American store today, but even so Europeans are getting fed up of getting the short straw every week. And rightly so.

Here we go again. The next three issues of "Worldwide PS3 releases" are going to be depressingly bare, so you can probably stop reading right now. Wait until the end of the month, then we'll have far more releases happening on a weekly basis. Possibly even, more than one. Fingers crossed. US Games Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent EU Games No new releases Asian Games No new releases No comment.*Update*Okay, so the confusion about Splinter Cell comes from the fact that some places like Amazon.com are listing it in 'preorder' status right now, with a ship date of tomorrow. We have no idea why it would be like this, considering it was released worldwide on March 30th of this year. Ubisoft may have cut off shipments and be rereleasing it due to some unknown bug in the original version. If we can get an answer out of Ubisoft on this weirdness, we'll let you know.

Here we go. Second week in a row when we've received a demo on the EU PSN Store. How long can Sony keep up this momentum? Well, if the rumours about Lair and Ratchet and Clank demos all having been completed are anything to go by, potentially another two weeks, at least. Here's the "full" release list: Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 demo (free) Lair trailer (free) Juiced 2.0 trailer (free) So you noticed that we surrounded the word full with quotation marks, did you? That's because we can't help but feel a pang of disappointment with this week's update. Demos are always nice, don't get us wrong. Maybe we've been spoiled since E3. At the very least we expected Spyro 2 and Medievil to be back up. Still, for those of you who enjoy the Ghost Recon series, this is a fairly good day. Bit cheeky of Sony to release another Lair trailer after yesterday's news though, don't you think?

We hope you're still busy with Ninja Gaiden Sigma. There's not a whole lot coming out for a couple of weeks, until Lair's arrival around the middle of August. Check out the release list below, just in case something catches your eye. You never know. US Games No new releases EU Games No new releases Asian Games No new releases Oh. Well, never mind then. Sadly, this is the state of play for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully Sony will be keeping up with the excellent PSN updates we've been seeing recently in order to keep us entertained until the games start pouring out again. The good news is that once they do start coming, they won't stop until early next year. Give or take a few weeks of drought. But with titles like SingStar, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword and Blacksite: Area 51 all out in the next month and a half, we're not going to be bored for long.

    07.23.2007

It looks like we were completely correct with our post a couple of weeks ago when we laid out a sumptuous platter of downloadable content that would be available on the European PSN this month. ThreeSpeech has confirmed that everything that we listed will be available on the store this Thursday (looks like the EU updates will no longer be happening on Fridays after all). For those with lazy clicking fingers, here is the list of upcoming downloadable content for this week: Heavenly Sword demo Crash Bandicoot 2 PS1 game for PS3/PSP Spyro 2 PS1 game for PS3/PSP WipEout 2097 PS1 game for PS3/PSP MediEvil PS1 game for PS3/PSP As well as all of this, there will be a couple more trailers from E3 going up. Namely, Ratchet and Clank and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Though chances are most of you will have downloaded them from the US Store already.[Thanks Ian][Update]IGN has confirmation that the demo *should* be arriving this week in America and Japan as well. Woot!

Not a lot happening this week. Nor, really, for the next couple of weeks. You could call this period of time "The calm before the Storm." The "Storm", in this case, being Lair. Here are this week's PlayStation 3 offerings.US Games Nascar 08 EU Games No new releases Asian Games Minna no Golf 5 Wangan Midnight Major League Baseball 2K7 Oh yeah. How could we forget. This week sees the release of Minna no Golf 5 (you might know it better as Hot Shots Golf 5} and its bundle pack. Interestingly, this game currently resides at number 7 on Famitsu's top 20 most wanted list, with over 300,000 preorders of the title in stores. Could we be seeing a huge surge in PS3 sales in Japan over the next few weeks? If you fancy playing some Minna no Golf 5 this week, then feel free to order it from Japan to play on your US/EU PS3. It won't mind. Release dates are fickle and subject to change at a moment's notice. Contact your local shop before potentially wasting a trip into town.

Another Thursday update for us Europeans. Is this going to be a recurring thing? It makes sense for all the stores to be updated on the same day, after all. Well, let's get down to it. Here are your updates to the store for this week: Ratatouille film trailer (free) The Darkness trailer (free) The Darkness demo (free) Rainbow Six: Vegas trailer (free) Grand Theft Auto IV trailer (free) Just in time for the European release tomorrow, The Darkness gets a demo and a trailer. So if you're not sure whether to get the game or not, check these out. We're not at all surprised to see a lack of Heavenly Sword demo this week, despite it being ready to go. We'll no doubt see it next Friday. Or Thurday. Which is it, Sony? You're messing with our heads.

It's nice to see that The Darkness is finally out in Europe. Do keep in mind that release dates are constantly subject to change, though. So call ahead before you journey shopwards.

  • July's European PSN Store offerings - Heavenly Sword demo and more

    07.13.2007

We've managed to get our hands on what exactly we can expect from the EU PSN Store this month. After this week's huge update, we had high hopes that this month would continue offering us some excellent content. Those hopes seem to be well founded. Check out the list of releases for the upcoming weeks. While not exhaustive, this list focuses on major, highly-anticipated playable content. Heavenly Sword demo Crash Bandicoot 2 PS1 game for PS3/PSP Spyro 2 PS1 game for PS3/PSP WipEout 2097 PS1 game for PS3/PSP MediEvil PS1 game for PS3/PSP We've also heard mention of the Blast Factor expansion, Snakeball and Feel Ski but aren't certain whether these will be coming our way in July. If not, then we'll probably see them in August. Also on the horizon is news about Warhawk and the Motorstorm Coyote Weekend VIP Pass update. Oh, and in the run up to the Heavenly Sword release in September we'll be seeing five "Animated History" videos which give the game some backstory, along with some more making-of content appearing on the Store too. No doubt each week will be peppered with the normal trailers as well.

  • PS3 Starter Pack confirmed for Europe - No price cut in sight

    by

    07.13.2007

It looks like MaxConsole.net was right, SCEE has today revealed plans to launch the PlayStation 3 Starter Pack in Europe. The pack will be released on the 18th of July in the UK and will be available in all other European countries by the 1st of August. As a result of this the PlayStation 3 will not be seeing a price cut in Europe. The Starter Pack will sell for £425 in the UK and €599 elsewhere in Europe. These prices may seem familiar to you, as they haven't changed since the console's launch in March. The Starter Pack contains a 60GB PS3, two games and two controllers. The example used by Sony has Resistance and Motorstorm in the box but other packs will include different games from the launch line-up. We think it's a decent package, but are still disappointed by the lack of price drop. The price of the PS3 in the Starter Pack works out to about £310 or €430. Is this technically a 'price cut' of £115/$250? Let's pretend it is. Then we, as a continent, can start buying safe in the knowledge that we got a larger price cut than America. The problem still remains, however, that some people just can't afford it. It's not necessarily a matter of "won't", Sony. It's a matter of "can't".

The E3 videos are up, but that's not all. We got a full fledged update today - and a day early, too. We're sure you're itchy to hear everything that's available, so check below for the full list. The Simpsons Movie trailer [SD/720p/1080p] (free) Transformers trailer [SD/1080p] (free) 8 minute excerpt from Die Hard 4 [SD/720p/1080p] (free) Die Hard 4 trailer [SD/720p/1080p] (free) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune trailer (free) PSN Event Trailer (free) E3 2007 footage: Feel Ski trailer (free) Folklore trailer (free) High Velocity Bowling trailer (free) Killzone 2 trailer (free) LittleBigPlanet trailer (free) Pain trailer (free) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune trailer (free) WipEout HD trailer (free) Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer (free) Nucleus starter pack (free) Nucleus full game (£4.99) So there you have it. A true mother-load of content dropped directly onto our PSN store front. We love you Sony. We're curious to see what happens to the US PSN store today too. It's usually that which updates on Thursdays, not the EU store. We'll let you know if/when it gets updated. In the meantime, enjoy your videos. And Nucleus. If it plays better than the Japanese demo did, that is.

  • EU PSN Store updating at 5pm today according to ThreeSpeech

    07.12.2007

Those of you who are upset that the EU PSN Store didn't update with any E3 trailers yesterday, don't fret. We'll be seeing some of the videos that appeared on the US Store yesterday appearing at around 5pm BST (GMT +1). We're happy to see the content come to the EU stores, but wonder why it wasn't done simultaneously with the US releases. There's the possibility that Sony noticed the European responses to the content drop and decided to remedy the situation. Here's the list of content that ThreeSpeech has reported will be released today: Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer Feel Ski trailer Folklore trailer High Velocity Bowling trailer Killzone 2 trailer Little Big Planet trailer Pain trailer WipEout HD trailer Uncharted: Drake's Fortune trailer There will also be a Ratchet and Clank and GT5 trailer coming next week. Sure, there's not quite as much content as on the US store, but at least the big trailers are in there. In fact, we have new content in the form of the WipEout HD trailer, which hasn't been released on the US store. We're not sure whether this is our complete store update for this week, as it usually happens on a Friday. We'll keep you posted.

    06.29.2007

We've had two weeks of good PSN updates so far. Can Sony make it a hat-trick with a third? In short, yes. Check the full release list below. Super Stardust HD (£4.99) Championship Sprint (£1.99) Gauntlet 2 (£1.99) Ninja Gaiden Sigma demo (free) Superman Returns BD trailer (free) Full Metal Jacket BD trailer (free) That's right. Sony were good to their word and have released Super Stardust HD worldwide within 24 hours. This is an excellent game and we will have a review up before too long to tell you exactly why. The other two available games (ah, it feels good to be able to say that ... ) are midway remakes, so have a think about it before you buy. Having said that, we've heard that Gauntlet 2 was pretty good online. The Ninja Gaiden demo is a must get, if you haven't already nabbed if from the US store. Hopefully it will be compatible with the full title's in-game rewards for completing the demo, as the US version will be. Keep these killer updates coming, Sony.
