  • Double Fine Amnesia Fortnight game jam includes Adventure Time creator

    02.06.2014

Double Fine's annual game jam, Amnesia Fortnight, is upon us once again. Over the next two weeks, small teams within Double Fine will conceptualize new games and create working prototypes that will, through the power of internet voting, be made into full-fledged games. This year's festivities include a special twist: Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward is participating as a special guest project leader. Ward will head up his own team and create a working prototype based on one of his four designs, as voted for by the fans. A list of Pendleton Ward's prototypes are available over on the Amnesia Fortnight Humble Bundle page. Mathematical! The pitch video above shows Double Fine is full of ideas - we kind of lost count after the eighth game idea - but there are individual pitch videos for each idea over on Double Fine's YouTube page. There are games about cats, space exploration, fantasy wars, karate troopers, turning Tim Schafer into a pocket monster, something about a ghost dog (not that Ghost Dog) and Bad Golf 2 Bad Golf 2 Bad Golf 2 Bad Golf 2. A documentary from 2 Player Productions will chronicle the whole event. You can head on over to the Humble Store page right now and contribute some cash for the right to vote on which prototypes move on. Doing so will grant immediate access to 2012's prototypes, which include Amnesia Fortnight 2012 winner Spacebase DF-9. [Image: Double Fine]

The Humble Weekly Sale is feeling lethal and unforgiving, offering six roguelikes for the tempting price of "basically nothing." Yes, these products will kill you, over and over and over again – but they're on sale. You can't beat that. Three of the games are available for any price you want: Paranautical Activity (Early Access game), Dungeons of Dredmor Complete and Hack, Slash Loot. The remaining three games are thrown in if you pay $6 or more: The Binding of Isaac plus Wrath of the Lamb DLC, Teleglitch: Die More Edition Guns and Tunes, and Sword of the Stars: The Pit Gold Edition. This bundle seems to be priced according to "complexity of name." Don't worry though – they will all kill you. At a discount.

Those are all "pay what you want," but throw down $6 or more and add Carrier Command: Gaea Mission and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead. DayZ, the Arma series mod, is free on Steam but requires Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead, so basically you're getting DayZ in this deal, too. The standalone DayZ developed by Dean Hall and Bohemia is on its way, and the Early Access version sold more than 1 million copies in a month.

The Humble Store's Winter Sale wrapped up (with a bow on top) today, but there's one more surprise: It's not over. The Humble Store's 72-hour encore sale begins now, starring the best-selling games from the Winter Sale. Games on sale include Gone Home for 66 percent off, Monaco at an 80 percent discount, plus Dust: An Elysian Tail, Shadow Warrior and Guacamelee Gold Edition for 75 percent off. At the price of "anything," this bundle offers Little Inferno, Gemini Rue, AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! for the Awesome and Jack Lumber, but you can pay more than the average to snag Hero Academy and Anomaly 2. And yes, there will be more games before the bundle ends in two weeks. Guaranteed.

  • Gone Home, Europa Universalis 4, more discounted in Humble Store Winter Sale

    12.18.2013

The Humble Store has kicked off its Winter Sale with a number of big discounts, most notably indie hit Gone Home, which will be reduced to a mere $5. Other notable sales include Europa Universalis 4 for $20, Shadow Warrior for $10 and Legend of Grimrock for $3.75. A full list of the current deals can be found on the Winter Sale website. So what's the catch? These deals are only available for a limited time. These discounts in particular are only valid for the next eight hours, after which time they'll be replaced by new, different discounts. There's no telling what might pop up next - an earlier version of the sale only reduced Gone Home's price to $10, instead of its current $5. As with all Humble Store sales, 10 percent of all proceeds go toward charity. It's up to you which charity you'd like your money to benefit, though between the American Red Cross, Child's Play, the Electronic Freedom Frontier, the World Land Trust and Charity: Water, wherever your cash goes it will be put to good use helping the less fortunate.

  • EA's Origin Humble Bundle brings $1.65 million to American Cancer Society

    12.08.2013

Remember EA's Humble Origin Bundle and how the publisher vowed to donate its share of the proceeds to charity? EA COO Peter Moore tweeted the above picture this week of himself presenting a $1.65 million cut of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society. The Origin Bundle's launch followed Moore's insistence that EA could "do better" just before it won its second consecutive Golden Poo award. It would be interesting to see a full breakdown of the Humble Origin Bundle's revenue, but it's nice to at least see this sliver of the results, especially when EA isn't necessarily raking in cash for themselves.

    12.03.2013

Humble Bundle organizers have launched the Humble Jumbo Bundle, serving up digital copies of Unknown Worlds' FPS Natural Selection 2, Coffee Stain Studios' tower defense shooter Sanctum 2 and Paradox Interactive's DLC-bundled Magicka for a buyer-chosen price ($1 minimum). Beat the bundle's average purchase price (currently hovering around $4) and you'll also receive Robot Entertainment's Orcs Must Die! 2: Complete Pack, Croteam's retro-styled shooter Serious Sam 3: BFE, and Facepunch Studios' sandbox mayhem simulator Garry's Mod. Note that Garry's Mod requires a Source engine game such as Counter-Strike: Source or Half-Life 2 as a base in order to function, but considering that it gives players the power to create brilliant works like Half life: Full Life Consequences, it's worth it. The Humble Jumbo Bundle will remain available for sale through December 17.

    11.26.2013

The Humble Mobile Bundle 3, which made its debut last week – headlined by Vlambeer's Ridiculous Fishing – has now added three new games, available to those who have contributed more than the average pay-what-you-want price. Driving simulator Desert Bus, about a bus on its way from Arizona to Las Vegas, is perhaps the most well-known of the trio. You may have heard of it from its annual fundraising campaign called Desert Bus for Hope, which recently cleared over $520,000 for Child's Play – an organization that coordinates donation of toys, games and consoles to sick children in hospitals across the country. Alongside the game about driving a bus for hours is minimalist puzzle game and former iOS-only success Hundreds, which tasks players with tapping circles to increase their size and numerical value, with the goal being to accumulate a total of 100 on-screen points. The third game on offer is Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor – an action-adventure platformer. A sequel, titled Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon, is due in the spring. There are currently just over six days left on the Humble Mobile Bundle 3 clock.

Are your flipper fingers getting rusty? Do you need a last-minute Thanksgiving present for Great Aunt Cheryl? Are Thanksgiving presents even a thing? Humble Bundle has those first two problems covered with the Zen Studios weekly sale, which includes more than 20 pinball tables spread across eight games. Pay what you want for the following Pinball FX2 games: Core Pack, Classic Pack, Earth Defense Table, Paranormal Table and Epic Quest Table. Pay $6 or more to also snag the Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles Pack, Star Wars Pack and Marvel Pinball Original Pack. All of the packs are available for PC via Steam. Payments for the Pinball FX weekly sale are split, however you choose, among Zen Studios, Humble Bundle and two charities, Watsi and American Red Cross. Humble is currently donating to the American Red Cross Typhoon Appeal to provide food, shelter and emotional support to people in the Philippines affected by Typhoon Haiyan. Remember Humble Bundle also has the Humble Mobile Bundle 3 right now, which includes Android premieres of Ridiculous Fishing and Swordigo. And there's the new Humble Store, which hosts crazy daily deals on a broad swathe of indie games, today including the Giana Sisters Twisted Bundle, the Magicka Collection and one of our favorite brawlers of the year, Foul Play, among others.

    11.13.2013

The Warner Bros. Humble Bundle, which runs until November 19, has added some new games and DLC today. Those who have yet to pay over the average or have already done so will find Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, FEAR, Guardians of Middle-earth (including "Smaug's Treasure" add-on) and a special starter pack, which includes exclusive boosts, armor and quests, for Lord of the Rings Online available. On top of the free games, there's also a weapon pack for free-to-play shooter Gotham City Impostors, plus some additional skins for Batman: Arkham Origins. That last one is a little odd considering the game isn't even included in this bundle. The Warner Bros. Humble Bundle made its debut last week, offering up a collection of six games: Game of the Year versions of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, along with FEAR 2 Project Origin, FEAR 3, Scribblenauts Unlimited and Lord of the Rings: War in the North. The Warner Bros. Humble Bundle will be live for the next five days.
