This year's EVO, arguably the biggest fighting game tournament, will feature eight titles in Las Vegas this year, including established favorites like Street Fighter 5, Tekken 7 and Super Smash Bros. Melee. Capcom's Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, however, will not be making an appearance this time. The series has regularly appeared at the tournament, but the newest addition apparently hasn't made the cut. Don't worry though, in its place there are new games!

Spider-Man and Frank West join latest ‘Marvel vs. Capcom’ roster

Like comic books, fighting games are ripe for the crossover treatment. Nintendo has done it with good success in the Super Smash Bros. series, bringing characters from disparate franchises like Street Fighter and Fire Emblem together to brawl on the Wii U and 3DS. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe mixed up heroes from video games and comic books into its arenas, as well. Really, any announcement of new playable characters in upcoming fighting games are sure to please fans across the board. Now we're seeing a couple of big-name reveals at Comic-Con for two upcoming games, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Dragon Ball FighterZ. Frank West of Dead Rising fame is headed to the former, along with Spider-Man, Mike Haggar (from Final Fight) and Nemesis (from Resident Evil). Dragon Ball Fighter Z fans will be able to play both Piccolo and Krillin, longstanding characters in the anime universe.

'Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite' and 'Mega Man' at E3 2017

Other than an impressive Monster Hunter World preview, the Capcom booth at E3 2017 is also home to demos for two big releases due later this year. Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 picks up where the first bundle left off, jumping into the 16-bit era with Mega Man 7, 8, 9 & 10. The pack will be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC August 8th for $20, and gamers who need an extra dose of nostalgia can dive into the archives of artwork or just play their favorite tracks. For a more modern touch, the booth also has Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite on display. This iteration reverses the change 3v3 hero teams introduced with Marvel vs. Capcom 2, going back to a 2-on-2 tag team format. The story mode I played is also available now as a free demo on PS4 and Xbox One, where players can use the new Infinity Stones against Ultron's minions. The new game has been criticized for its art style and smaller roster of characters -- we could use most of the 24 it will launch with, far fewer than the 48 in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Check out out game play above, along with two trailers embedded below.

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite pits classic video game characters from franchises like Street Fighter and Mega Man against everyone's favorite superheroes from the Marvel universe. The debut trailer showed an epic battle among Ryu, Mega Man X, Captain Marvel and Iron Man. Infinite lands in late 2017 and fans will get the first look at its gameplay tonight at the Capcom Cup, which is being held at PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, California.
