After a few slow weeks, it's once again a very good time to be a PS3 owner. Not only do you have a (timed) exclusive (on consoles) with Unreal Tournament III, but you finally get to wallow in the maelstrom of pleasure that is The Orange Box. Your enemies in 360 town are having to make due with NCAA March Madness 2008 and Madden NFL Football 08 Espanol. On Wii: Super Swing Golf Season 2 and the usual parade of sadness. Also, PC is getting last week's featured game (go figure) Universe at War: Earth Assault. See the full list after the jump.%Gallery-4830%

We'll be the first to admit that last week, we wussed out. Instead of picking a single game to feature we told you to just go and play the stuff that had already been released and this week, you may still want to do that. But we didn't want you to think we were just being indecisive. So this week, the award goes to Universe at War: Earth Assault, which looks to be (if early reviews are any indication) a pretty solid RTS on PC. If that doesn't pique your interest ... well, we hope you like The Golden Compass.[Update: Apparently, Universe at War is shipping next week. So ... congrats, Golden Compass. You did it.]%Gallery-7459%

You know, there were so many good releases last week, are you sure you really got your fill? Are you sure there's nothing you'd like to go back and get? Because honestly, the Game Train got derailed at some point this week on its way to Happy Time Station.Unless you want to play the hit new game from The History Channel or are having people over to play Cranium Kabookii on the Wii, there's just not much here for you. We'll be dipping into the back catalog; you probably should too.

We know, we know. It's an easy way out. But with all of the releases this week, we just couldn't put one over the other. So, in honor of Thanksgiving, it's the cornucopia, with a little something for fans of first-person shooters, action, sci-fi RPGs and rocking totally out. But this week is about more than just Unreal Tournament III, Mass Effect, Rock Band and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Check out the full list after the break.

See, now this is where it gets punishing. Kiss your poor wallet "Adios!" friends, because we're staring down the barrel of a really tough week. Sure, there's Super Mario Galaxy, and it's an easy choice for the featured pick (much like Baby, nobody puts the plumber in the corner). But he's also got an insane lineup of hot titles on his heels, including Crysis, Assassin's Creed, BlackSite: Area 51, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. And there's ... more. You can check out the full list after the break, you poor, soon-to-be-broke sap -- it may just be the last time you can do so before your computer gets repossessed.

Shh, we're trying to enjoy this. We're trying to enjoy one last week of a clear winner in the battle for new release supremacy. Because honestly, after this week, it gets pretty murky. But we're not going to linger on that. For today, there is Call of Duty 4, which, if the recent beta was any indication, is going to be fully awesome. Heck, we'll just be happy to see people on our friends list playing things that don't end in "alo 3" or "range Box". Catch the full list for this week after the break.%Gallery-3922%

What a nice change of pace. Normally, the game we feature in this weekly segment is something you won't be able to get your hands on until later in the week. But, thanks to its crazy Sunday release, you can go get Guitar Hero III right now. Come to think of it, you probably should ... unless you hate rocking. In non-console news, PC is having one of its best weeks in recent memory with the release of Hellgate: London. Whether you love rock 'n' roll or battling hell, it's a totally metal week. It's a good week for PlayStation 3 owners, especially the new ones. You may have been a little disheartened as you looked for something awesome that only your shiny new PS3 can handle, and, if a few early reviews are any indication, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction may just be that game. There's good news elsewhere too, with Xbox 360 getting Ace Combat 6 and the Wii is receiving what we suspect might be a hidden gem with Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure. Oh, and portable treats on the PSP with Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles and a new Phoenix Wright on the DS. Check all the new releases after the break.%Gallery-3182%

So, we're about 50 percent sure about this week's featured game. If it's one of the good Tony Hawks then it's head-and-shoulders above the rest. If it's not though, we could be persuaded to give the honor to ... hmm ... Fury? Wild Petz: Dolphins? Hannah Montana Music Jam? Who knows? For now though, the day is yours Mr. Hawk. ... For now. %Gallery-3120%

See, these are the weeks that picking the top release is easy. The Orange Box looks to be one of the best games of the year, but, more importantly, it looks to be one of the best gaming values. And we're all about the value here on Joystiq. We'd clip coupons, if our hands weren't already horribly misshapen and arthritis-ridden from decades of clipping coupons. Yeah ... we're pretty hardcore. PS3 is getting an interesting release too, with Folklore. Check out all the releases after the break.%Gallery-1634%

After what was arguably the biggest week of the the year for most 360 owners, we have what is almost absolutely the week that most DS owners have been looking forward to with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. It's not a bad week all around though, with Project Gotham Racing 4 on the 360 (or Geometry Wars: Waves depending on your perspective), a whole lotta basketball on the PS3 and on Wii ... umm ... Ninja Bread Man. Check the full list after the break.%Gallery-2856%

  • New games this week: Bratz the Movie edition

    09.24.2007

So, it's a pretty slow week for new releases. You've got Skate dropping on the PS3, that Jackass game is finally coming out on PS2, and Bungie has a sci-fi first-person shooter named Halo 3. We don't know how they slipped the first two past us (were they maybe on Mac?), but if Oni was any indication we're probably going to take a pass. Wow, and they're releasing three different versions? What are you guys compensating for? No, we think the real reason to get excited this week is Bratz: The Movie. Not only is it being released on TWO systems (take that, Halo 3), it's based on a movie and has an incredible shopping engine. That's what we call a triple threat, haters. If you're curious though, we've put a few screens of that Bungie shooter after the break, if you get tired of Bratz. ... Not like that's possible.

We're not sure, but we bet Shari Lewis, were she still with us, would get a real kick out of the name of this week's game of the week. ... OK, we know, that wasn't much, as far as jokes go. But honestly, the well has run dry on "will it be on PS3" stuff to write about Eternal Sonata and "Song That Doesn't End" gags are about as much as we were able to muster. It also serves as a nice intro to this week's releases, which we're calling "Mediocrity Unbound!" Please, enjoy. %Gallery-2144%

With Warhawk two weeks ago and Heavenly Sword this week, the PlayStation 3 is finally starting to pick up some real momentum on the release calendar. The 360 isn't slouching this week though, with SKATE and the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Would Have Been a Better Deal For Under $60) Game of the Year edition. On the portable front, there's Jam Sessions on DS. The PSP is continuing its stellar, earth-shattering relaunch last week with no new games this week. 09.03.2007

This week's most high-profile release might be the John Woo-inspired spiritual sequel to Hard Boiled, but the best overall purchase is debatable. While it may be worth $60 to you to shoot a bunch of nameless thugs, destroy metric tons of innocent fruit and slide over every table like it was freshly-Endusted, that may not be your bag. (Check out the trailer after the break if you're confused.) If not, may we suggest Resident Evil Essentials? Though we quibble with the title, we can't quibble with the price: It's $30 for Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X, Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil 4. If you haven't played them, this is the time to rectify that. Also, we see that Wii owners are being punished for the bounty they received of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption last week. Well, have fun at the Pool Party.

We've knocked on every single piece of wood we could find, and we now feel relatively confident about proclaiming the game drought officially over. And it's not just the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, though this drought has hit Wii owners the hardest. Xbox 360 owners are getting Stuntman Ignition and Blue Dragon this week, and your PS3 will be able to download Warhawk or you could buy it at a store, if you still remember where your local game store is. While Brunswick Pro Bowling made a very convincing case to us in front of our giant cedar desk, much like an elderly Willy Loman begging to keep his job, you probably already knew we were going to give it to BioShock this week. It's a pretty decent offering otherwise though, with PS3 getting GRAW 2 and the Brain Age sequel on DS. There's a full list after the jump.%Gallery-3725%

First off: Best new release week image ever. Second: It's Madden week! And this one's apparently pretty good. But what if you don't crave the feel of the pigskin in your grip? Well, there are a few oddball releases in the portable arena, but is it worth the risk? For the next couple of weeks, the game store is going to be hostile ground, with a jock-to-geek ratio that's going to be downright dangerous. Go get your DS RPG, just be careful to avoid a wedgie.%Gallery-4322%

It's days like this that make us pine for a time machine. Can you imagine being able to tell you from five years ago the the biggest release one week would be an original IP from EA where you sing and wave your arms around to dance? Oh, and also, you appear to be a giant pink squid-Travolta ... and it's called Boogie. This new release list doesn't just tell you what games are coming out, it reminds you that wonders never cease.%Gallery-3417%

When it comes to new-gen releases this week, the Wii stands alone with the North American release of Mario Strikers Charged and (get this!) it's ... online! That's right, as Nintendo continues its cautious entry into the world of online multiplayer with their Mario-infused soccer title, our Xbox 360s and PS3s go untended. Of course, there's a litany of DS games (including the addictive Picross), and the PSP makes a strong showing with three titles (including Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl) so despite the summer gaming doldrums, there should be a little something for everyone. %Gallery-3412%
