What we're watching: 'Raw' and 'Feast of Fiction'
Welcome back to Video IRL, where several of our editors talk about what they've been watching in their spare time. This month we're kicking things off with some seasonally-appropriate horror fare, that you can catch right away on Netflix or Amazon Prime. What we're listening to: Rayana Jay, 'Destiny 2' and Cobalt
Welcome back to IRL, our series dedicated to the things that Engadget writers play, use, watch and listen to. What we're buying: BeatsX wireless buds, Roland JP-08, Paprika app

What we're watching: 'Marvel's The Defenders' and 'The Night of'
Welcome back to Video IRL, where several of our editors talk about what they've been watching in their spare time. This month we're talking about the latest Marvel/Netflix series, The Defenders, to find out if it's as bingeworthy as previous efforts. Billy Steele hopped into HBO's archives to check out The Night Of and explains why this is a crime series you won't want to miss, and finally, Richard Lawler talks about The Man from Nowhere without mentioning that he always cries at the end.
What we're playing: 'Mario + Rabbids,' 'Overwatch' and 'Splatoon 2'
Welcome back to Gaming IRL, a monthly segment where several editors talk about what they've been playing in their downtime. This month, it all falls apart, as two of us admit to basically playing the same games nonstop all year. Some are still doing their jobs though, and to kick us off, UK Bureau Chief Mat Smith talks about Ubisoft's surprisingly good Mario + Rabbids game.
We're listening to: 'You Must Remember This' and Brand New
Welcome back to IRL, our series dedicated to the things that Engadget writers play, use, watch and listen to. This week, we're focusing on music and podcasts, with new albums from Queens of the Stone Age and Brand New. Sandwiched between the nostalgia-filled music is a ... nostalgia-filled podcast about old Hollywood.
What we're using: Qapital, Mighty and the Switch Pro controller
This month's In Real Life focuses on self-improvement: taking your Spotify playlists to the gym minus your phone, getting some app-powered help on your savings and, er, being a better gamer on the Nintendo Switch.
What we're watching: 'Atypical,' 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople'
Welcome once again to "Video IRL," where several of our editors talk about what they've been watching in their spare time. This month we're checking out Netflix's big release from the past week that isn't The Defenders with What Happened to Monday? as well as a surprisingly heartwarming indie movie called The Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Meanwhile Contributing Writer Rob LeFebvre fell in love with the family in Netflix's series Atypical, and Saqib Shah looks at Guy Ritchie's King Arthur as a reason for optimism instead of just a box office bomb.
What we're playing: 'Tacoma,' 'Final Fantasy' and 'A Dark Room'
Welcome back to Gaming IRL, a monthly segment where several editors talk about what they've been playing in their downtime. This month, we've enjoyed (to varying degrees) two flavors of Final Fantasy, explored Fullbright's new game, Tacoma, and lost ourselves in a "button-tapping mash-up between an idle-clicker and a text adventure." To open proceedings, UK Bureau Chief Mat Smith talks about how, when it comes to Final Fantasy XII, third time's a charm.

What we're watching: 'Shirobako,' 'American Gods' and 'Robot & Frank'
Welcome once again to Video IRL, where several of our editors talk about what they've been watching in their spare time. This month brings a mixed bag: While one of us dived into season one of Starz' series American Gods, another is obsessed with a quirky UK game show that will make the jump to America soon. Meanwhile we've given anime another chance, and last but not least, there's even some robot-enabled larceny.
What we're playing: 'Wipeout', 'Dead Cells' and 'Danger Zone'
Welcome back to Gaming IRL, a monthly segment where several editors talk about what they've been playing in their downtime. This month, we've obsessed over roguelikes, remasters and resource gathering; we've sent adventurers into dungeons, only to see them go insane; and one of us searched for the Burnout mode they've pined for, only to realize that making a 13-year-old minigame feel relevant is easier said than done.
What we're listening to in July
It's been a couple of months since we launched a new series about the stuff we use every day. Since then, we've talked about games new and old, Netflix originals, synthpop and even a WiFi router. This week, it's time again for music and podcasts: from Radiohead remasters to Jay-Z's latest, via New York history and forgotten TV pilots.
What we're using in July
There's a difference between what we test and write about for the site, and what Engadget editors actually decide to lay down their own cash for. Outside work hours, and when the review samples go back to the companies, what are our writers using? Which apps and services do we actually use? We've already talked about games, audio and the things we're watching, but this is Engadget: It's time to talk hardware. This week, Daniel Cooper decided to take the plunge with Google WiFi's mesh network after an accident destroyed his old wireless network. It's a story of pros and cons.
What we've been watching in June
After putting together any home-theater setup, big or small, there's always one last question: What are you going to watch? Our editors have already opened up about some of the games they're playing and what they're listening to, but this edition of IRL is all about video. Sometimes we'll talk about the latest series we've binge watched, or maybe a new movie that you just can't miss. Today we have a little bit of everything as one editor revisits the roots of his anime fandom, another powers through Jenji Kohan's latest release on Netflix and, finally, one of us is watching Jurassic Park for the very first time.
What we're playing in June
Welcome back to Gaming IRL, a monthly segment where several editors talk about what they've been playing in their downtime. Gaming IRL is part of a broader series in which you'll find stories from all of the areas we cover: gadgets we use every day, the apps and services we adore, what we're watching and the music and podcasts we can't live without. Today is all about gaming. E3 is done and dusted for another year, but every year there are dozens of great games released, all of which are available right now. Fittingly, our picks this month range from a 1997 sim all the way up to a game that was released just today.
What we're listening to in June
We spend every minute of the working day bringing you news, reviews and features on every aspect of technology. Like everyone else, though, we also use tech outside of work hours. Last month we launched a new series about the gadgets we use every day, the apps and services we can't live without and what we watch and play. This week, it's time for music and podcasts. We start with a personal story from Dana Wollman on her on-again-off-again relationship with podcasts, before four other editors offer quick takes on the music and shows they've been obsessing over this month.
What we played in May
From in-depth features and interviews to the daily torrent of trailers and news, we write a lot about video games here. But there's only so much one team can cover, and often some of our favorite games never grace the digital pages of Engadget. To remedy that shortcoming, we're introducing Gaming IRL, a monthly segment where several editors talk about what they've been playing in their downtime. Sometimes these'll be the latest AAA game, but you'll also see free-to-play mobile distraction and classics revisited (or criminally ignored until now). Gaming IRL is part of a broader series in which you'll find stories from all of the areas we cover: gadgets we use every day, the apps and services we adore, what we're watching and the music and podcasts we can't live without. Today is all about gaming. In the future, expect to find some essays and personal stories mixed in with the endorsements, but for now, sit back and enjoy an eclectic mix of console, hand-held, online and mobile recommendations.
