Today, another weird PC indie finds its way to WiiWare: the time-traveling, junk-inventing adventure Doc Clock and the Toasted Sandwich of Time. There's also a city-building Qix clone ported from iOS, and a returning WiiWare demo for Bit. Trip Beat. DSiWare features Animal Boxing, the second retail title from Gammick Entertainment to move over to a DSiWare download. There's also a surprisingly cute card game about driving competitors to bankruptcy!%Gallery-114523%%Gallery-114524%

We're treated to a surprise today from Capcom, something we didn't think we'd see in 2011: two Virtual Console releases on the same day! Bask in it, because even a single Virtual Console release is a rare event. This time, it's two of Capcom's announced arcade releases, Ghosts 'n Goblins and the shmup Exed Exes. Additionally, WiiWare is host to Disney's Jelly Car 2, a build-it-yourself racing game with realistic physics and weird, jiggly cars.%Gallery-113645%

If you believe that the first WiiWare and DSiWare games of the new year will set the tone for the rest of 2011, then ... man, this is going to be a weird year. DSiWare gets artsy with a three-pack of games designed by Jason Rohrer, including Passage, Gravitation, and Between. And WiiWare gets, um, sneezy ... with a port of Retro Dreamer's iPhone game Sneezies.%Gallery-112345%

The Flashy-looking Chick Chick Boom headlines this week's WiiWare releases, as a pair of Neo Geo titles comes to Virtual Console. On DSiWare, there's a virtual slots game and the sequel to DodoGo! (the exclamation being part of the game title). Check out the full breakdown of digital Wii and DSi releases for the week after the break. %Gallery-104897%

Gather up all your extra Classic Controllers and GameCube controllers. They are about to get seriously ruined, thanks to the arrival of Mario Party 2 on Virtual Console -- the first Nintendo-published Virtual Console game to arrive since June. If Nintendo 64 minigame collections aren't your thing, you can download Frobot on WiiWare, a top-down Zelda-style action game, with robots. And disco. DSiWare gets Dragon's Lair 2, almost a year to the day after the first Dragon's Lair hit the service ... and a month after Dragon's Lair arrived on DS cartridge.

It is, without a doubt, an actually good, not disappointing day on the Wii and DSi Shops. It's a Christmas miracle! The very cool iPhone reflex / rhythm game Lilt Line is now on WiiWare, published by Bit. Trip developer Gaijin Games. And Taito's Darius Twin shoots 'em up on Virtual Console. On DSiWare, Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ, originally a retail DS game, can be downloaded for 800 Points, obviating the need to go to a store and hunt down that somewhat obscure (but fun) shooter.%Gallery-110454%

Finally, this WiiWare game has arrived -- one we've been reading about for months, that will allow us to experience a common natural phenomenon in a new way. We're talking, of course, about Fireplacing (formerly My Fireplace). Oh, also, Fluidity is out. If you download them together, will they cancel each other out? Meanwhile, on Virtual Console, Capcom surprises us with a pair of games that weren't supposed to be out until next year!%Gallery-109311%%Gallery-109310%

Another relatively awesome week for DSiWare, WiiWare and, yes, even Virtual Console, as Cave Story arrives in both portable form on DSiWare and demo form on WiiWare. DSiWare also features a port of Two Tribes' Mac/iPhone puzzle game Frenzic. The Virtual Console offers the wonderful Neo Geo puzzler Magical Drop 2.%Gallery-108408%

After the last few years, we don't know how to react to the kind of wealth on the Wii and DSi Shops today. It's too much to process all at once. WiiWare demos are back, offering a chance to check out Bit.Trip Fate, ThruSpace, And Yet It Moves and Jett Rocket with no financial outlay. There's a new Tetris game on DSiWare. There's even a Virtual Console game! How is this possible?%Gallery-107999%

A strange pairing of themes emerged from today's DSiWare and WiiWare selections: racing and dogs. Need for Speed Nitro-X is out just in time to promote Hot Pursuit, accompanied by two other racing games of various disciplines. Meanwhile, two games about training dogs are also available this week. And yes, there is crossover between the two motifs, in the form of WiiWare's Derby Dogs. Even Go Fetch! on DSiWare is kind of a racing game, now that we think about it -- it involves dogs running at top speed to get ahead of their opponent, a ball.%Gallery-107446%

The highlight among this week's downloadable Wii and DS games appears to be Gods vs. Humans, a strategy game about keeping your followers in their place by destroying the towers they're building ... to reach you. When not punishing mortals for their hubris, you can make musical tributes to yourself in the other WiiWare offering, Mix Superstar. DSiWare offers a slot machine game, a ... scrolling pinball adventure shmup, and, um, Discolight. Which is a virtual disco light. Yes, of course it's by the makers of Flashlight.%Gallery-106980%

NBA Jam now faces some competition from the Virtual Console for Wii arcade basketball dominance. Well, actually, we doubt anyone in the history of the platform has ever worried about competition from the Virtual Console. In any case, the Neo Geo's Street Slam is available today. It's unrealistic, arcade-style basketball. Additionally, the WiiWare adventure Robox debuts today, as does a rare WiiWare/DSiWare dual release: Gene Labs, a puzzle action game about healing cells infected by a virus.%Gallery-106367%

    10.25.2010

It's new Bit.Trip day! Wii owners who enjoy trippy, pixelated visuals, dubstep music and tears can download Bit.Trip Fate today and learn a whole new way to be punished by Gaijin Games! In a good way. But if you'd rather substitute calm contemplation of the sky for rage, My Planetarium is there for you too. Actually, the two might make good companion pieces -- when you can no longer handle seeing Commander Video fall out of the sky, you can read about the stars that have managed to stay up there for billions of years. And then you can go outside, guided by your DSi and Flashlight, and find a spot to look at the real sky. We're kidding, of course. Don't buy Flashlight.%Gallery-105917%

It's sort of a Yuji Naka day on the Wii and DSi shops today, with Naka's old game series (Sonic the Hedgehog) receiving a new entry WiiWare, and his latest series (Ivy the Kiwi?) marching onto DSiWare. Also on DSiWare this week: games about protecting the world as a superhero, and protecting information as a data-gathering robot. Sonic is also joined on WiiWare by a trio of jumping sports.%Gallery-104757%

Originally meant to be episodic, the long-awaited sequel Shantae: Risky's Revenge arrives on DSiWare today. At 1,200 DSi Points ($12), it's the most expensive game on the service -- though its price doesn't come close to comparing to eBay prices for the original (just the manual is $50). If nothing else, that should provide a clue as to the level of affection people, including opportunistic eBayers, have for this series. Also available this week: a Virtual Console game. No, really!%Gallery-104185%

    09.27.2010

It's a light week on the Wii and DSi Shops, with two each for DSiWare and WiiWare, and none for the Virtual Console. The highlight on Wii is Target Toss Pro: Lawn Darts -- if only because it explains why Target Toss Pro: Bags had the awkward title it did and not, like, Bag Toss or something simple. It's a series! DSiWare has Zenonia, a port of an iPhone action RPG that sounds like it might actually be pretty good, especially with buttons.%Gallery-103381%

This week, we must thank Sunsoft once again for keeping the Virtual Console alive (if not entirely lively) with its release of Aero the Acrobat 2. Meanwhile, Nintendo offers a DSiWare app that allows you to make something with which gamers are entirely too familiar: countdown calendars. We must admit, though, that it's more fun when they count down to a personal milestone of instead of an artificial deadline for the release of information. Head past the break in 3 ... 2 ... 1 to see this week's Virtual Console, WiiWare, and DSiWare stuff.%Gallery-102760%

Have you figured out the theme? No? Well, please let us know once you do. We're having a little trouble ourselves. Click past the jump for more details about this week's downloadable releases.

Today's WiiWare offering is Fenimore Fillmore: The Westerner, a colorful cowboy adventure game peppered with a few action minigames. It's a perfect choice if you liked Red Dead Redemption, but didn't care so much for all the poverty, murder, rape, gambling, drinking, theft, extortion, hoodwinking and so forth. It's still got a pretty cool horse, though. The Virtual Console lineup has been expanded with Samurai Shodown III for NEOGEO, and a couple of new DSiWare games have been added to the store. You do enjoy Mahjong, don't you?

Oh, you thought the Virtual Console was back in full force? That's understandable -- what with there finally being a new game to play last week. But here we are again: It's Monday and there are no new Virtual Console releases of which to speak. Instead, we get one new WiiWare game and three new DSiWare titles. Check 'em out after the break. %Gallery-100699%
