  • Anti-Aliased: A few reasons to cage the nerdrage

There's so much anger in the consumer market these days. It seems like when a new product comes up, there has to be this bandwagon of people who roll in and start nerdraging over the product. Oh, APB isn't up your alley? Better nerdrage about that! You don't like Warhammer Online? Rev that nerdrage engine nice and loud so your neighbors can hear it.Everyone's a critic and gaming consumers are far from an exception. Some of the comments around these parts are some of the most spiteful sentences that could be constructed. You have console hate, game hate, genre hate, even particular MMO genre hate. But, honestly, why? It obviously doesn't help anyone except maybe the person doing it. A catharsis, perhaps? So what's this Anti-Aliased about? Honestly, I need rant article that's all about ranting. A hate article on game hate. Do two hates make a happy? I dunno, but I'm interested enough to try it out. So here's a few reasons why you should cage the hate and think twice before you open your trap on the forums you love so much.

  • Noob could be millionth English word

Every gamer, at some point, has been called a noob. It's almost a rite of passage and it's not unique to MMOs either. Indeed such is the power of this simple word, which is short for newbie, that it could well become the millionth word in the English language.MSN are reporting that the Global Language Monitor (we've never heard of them either) have predicted that at the rate the English language is growing, the millionth word will arrive at approximately 10:22am British Summer Time on June 10th. How they can be this exact we don't know but various British newspapers, including tabloids like The Sun, to more reputable papers like The Independent, have decided that word is going to be 'noob'. Personally I was hoping for a brand new word rather than one that's been around for so long but we shall see.

Happy Mother's Day to all you WoW Moms, and for all you kids who might have forgotten, you'd better go say it now while you've just been reminded. Come back though, because I have a nice list of comics waiting, as well as a (mostly) friendly gnome controversy. Awkward Zombie: Deadfall. I laughed out loud. Cru the Dwarf is being pursued, and an interrogation is underway. Dark Legacy Comics: Under the World. Experience Points: He's falling in love, and starting to enjoy the fishing dailies. Flintlocke vs the Horde: A Plan for Vengeance, part 2. GU Comics: It Still Figures. Fancy a little gnome controversy? If you're confused, click back a comic, or check out last week's Sunday Morning Funnies and read through some of the comments. Check out the latest from LFG. NoObz: Dayz of our Lives. Check out the latest from Teh Gladiators. Two Lumps: The Adventures of Ebenezer and Snooch. Snooch is playing WoW, in his own way. NPC: Puppyslayer. World of Warcraft, eh? is back, after a three-week hiatus!

This week's set of comics is actually quite topical, from a recent scandal, to world news to proper feline nutrition. There also aren't as many Noblegarden-themed comics as I expected. Cru the Dwarf is making fire. Nifty things are afoot! Experience Points examines the latest content patch. Flintlocke vs the Horde: War Party part 11. GU Comics: It Figures. This is related to a recent story that we covered involving hacked accounts, a GM item, and some very naughty players. Read all about the Martin Fury Scandal, and then tell us what you thought in our polls. GU Comics also hosted a guest strip by Stormhaven, called Inconsistent Know-How. Don't forget to read the explanation underneath! Before I did, I thought it was about the fact that Mustard Dogs seems to never come up. I have stacks and stacks of the Rhino Dogs, but no dice. GU Comics also posted a comic about last week's Noblegarden festivities, Rabbits Everywhere. This is the second-latest LFG comic, but I thought that it stood better on its own than #248. NoObz: Useless. NPC: For the Taurine! I love this one. If you don't know what Taurine is, you don't love your cats enough. Yep, I said it. Check out the latest from Teh Gladiators. The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf has updated, and I have to agree, I Love the Smell of Bacon in the Morning. Here is another from It's a 2v2 Life. Here's a newbie: KUO, with Eyebeam Irony. I couldn't decide which one to list, so check out a few of them, and I'll go with the latest next week.

Today is the official start of the week-long festival of Noblegarden, and is the last Sunday in April. I can't believe that it is almost May! We have some great comics this week, as always, along with one newbie. Check out a new comic, It's a 2v2 Life. Check out the latest from Cru the Dwarf. Dark Legacy Comics shows us how to Make your own DLC! Experience Points has something to say about the new Argent Tournament, and is offering up an advertisement. The latest from Flintlocke vs the Horde has set up next week's comic to be quite thing to see. Earlier this week, WoW Insider announced the new Peggle addon for WoW, and GU comics has done up a comic about it. Check out the latest from LFG. NoObz: Powerlevelage. NPC: Questionable Judgement. I love those little cats! Check out the latest from Teh Gladiators. From The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf: Frenching Kermit.

This week, we have a couple of comics that haven't updated because the authors are otherwise occupied. Namely, these are The Adventures of Disgraph T Dwarf and World of Warcraft, eh?. Enjoy your hiatus, Cadychan, and good luck with your story D (I can call you that, y'see, we're tight or something. Plus, you won't know if I'm really calling you Dan, Disgraph, or "Dwarf", which is slightly better than "You" but not quite as polite as "You there!", and I do like to antagonize Dwarves!). Awkward Zombie: Horse Remorse. I love the comment underneath! Cru the Dwarf is back up and running! Experience Points: Vincent gets a Mammoth, and reminisces about the old days. Check out the latest from Flintlocke vs. the Horde. GU Comics: A Touch Obvious. I highly recommend reading the story underneath it (as I always do, really). Check out the latest from LFG. My only complaint is the absence of the bunny. Usually he can be seen idling in the background, at least! Manic Graffiti: My Money's on an EU Guild. Massive Pwnage: Level Requirements. NoObz: Overcheatage. I think everyone knows how this feels. NPC: Diversion Tactics. My cats do something like this too, although I think they might just be gunning for my chair. Teh Gladiators: The Man's a Manimal.

I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend! I have a nice list to help you kick-start your day. Unfortunately, it seems that Cru the Dwarf will not be updating this week, due to technical difficulties. The featured photo is not of his computer, but it seems he will need a new one before the comic can resume. In the meantime, you can donate, or express your overwhelming sorrow! Dark Legacy Comics: Common Descent. Experience Points: Murlocs vs. Fries. Extra Life: It's all made of ones and zeros. Flintlocke vs the Horde: War Party part 2. Shakes and Fidget: Practice Makes Perfect. Check out the latest from LFG. Wolfslatoxx from NoObz. I love that little robotic dude. NPC: Purple Death Puddles. Teh Gladiators: Double Trouble. The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf: Standing Out. World of Warcraft, eh? It's like, totally In the Nick of Time.

NoObz is still on holiday, but Ding! has been updated. In other news, Disgraph has a new new site, because the new one liked to take a lot of naps. While everyone loves naps, they are not for websites. I have to say, I am loving the new design, although the text is a bit more difficult to read. Cru the Dwarf celebrates its first year! Dark Legacy Comics: Luck? Experience Points has two new WoW-related comics, and while one involves Twitter, the other is another Dear Diary. On Flintlocke vs the Horde, the battle over the owl and the bunny continues to rage. GU Comics: Burning a Hole and Sorn Motors. LFG: Richard has left for awhile, and his absence is being felt. Haxxed! Noobcow is a Stranger in a Strange Land. Kissybear is feeling a little out of his element too. Good thing he's starting the all new Panda Attack! Massive Pwnage: Achievement. NPC: Motivation. I completely agree with the sentiment expressed here. Alas. Teh Glads: They Are Finally United. The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf: Plots are Over Rated. As a bonus, mouseover the image and read the alternative text. World of Warcraft, eh? 'Bulls'-Eye.

Can you believe it's almost April? I'm afraid of the impending warm weather. This week, we have two absentee comic authors, not counting those that do not update regularly. Fortunately, both left us filler content, so it's almost as if we're not missing anything. We also have a new, one-time comic this week. Awkward Zombie: Bully Mammoth. Check out the latest from Cru the Dwarf. I like this one, or "heart" it as it were. Dark Legacy Comics points to Death Knights as our latest common enemy, but did anyone pause for the butterfly? Blizzard has a fifth game in development, you know. Experience Points. Flintlocke vs. the Horde shows that while Trolls might be questionably gruesome, they're also pretty forgiving. Giant Sewer Rat. GU Comics. Check out the latest from LFG. Man, I love that bunny. New Venture, from Monkey Punchers. NoObz filler. NPC: Toxic Guilt. Teh Gladiators: All he wanted was to play. More filler! Due to the flu, Disgraph is filler this week. I wouldn't recommend reading it though if you're eating or have sympathetic reflexes. World of Warcraft, eh?: The Horse Men Cometh. SMBC has posted a WoW-relevant comic. Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

This week's list has some real gems, including a new comic: Awkward Zombie: Nicked. I love this one! Cru the Dwarf actually listens sometimes! Experience Points: It's time to dig up a little scratch. Dark Legacy Comics: The Oracle. Check out the latest Flintlocke vs. the Horde. GU Comics: Salted Yeti Cheese. This should be especially relevant to people who are still farming their polar bear mount! The latest LFG made me laugh out loud. I'm kind of glad that I wasn't sipping my drink at the time. My poor keyboard can't take much more. Monkey Punchers: Hopeless. NoObz: Ninja. The newcomer to the list is a web comic that is just starting up, called NPC, or Non-Player Character, by Mary Varn. Check out the first comics, Pandering and Lies. Teh Gladiators: At Least I Had Chicken.... World of Warcraft, eh?: Don't Tase Me, Bro. Grinders: Head in the Clouds. Penny Arcade: This is Actually a Real Thing.

It is March! You can grab your free gems from The Consortium in Nagrand (does anyone still do that?), chart out whether the month is starting as a Lion or a Lamb, or lament the hour of sleep you are going to lose mid-month. Other than that, read the comics! Frypolar from Awkward Zombie is electrifying. There's a war brewing on Cru the Dwarf. This week's Ctrl+Alt+Del, Survival Instinct, is a little bit awkward. Dark Legacy Comics: Deserter. Check out the latest from Flintlocke vs. the Horde. The latest from LFG is worth checking out, even if you don't keep up with the series. Massive Pwnage: Lifelike. NoObz: Neeed. The latest Teh Gladiators features Leeroy Jenkins. From The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf comes Madness Part 1. World of Warcraft, eh?: A Well Thought-Out Route. Grinders: The Good Ol' Days.

This week, I've got a modest list of comics for you guys, although number seven should give you something to do! Cru the Dwarf: Some very important people are about to be revealed! Once they are, we find out that our friendly dwarf could use a history lesson. Dark Legacy Comics: No one likes to be Heartbroken. Flintlocke vs. the Horde, Episode 11, Part 7: The Final Straw. Check out the guest strip hosted by GU Comics, created by Luis Amaral, Dubious Achievements. The latest LFG shouldn't be missed, even if you regularly pass on it. NoObz: The Point of it All. I think about this a lot when loot drama crops up. Ctrl+Alt+Del has spoofed a couple of Infomercials. Namely, the infamous ShamWow, the Slap Chop, and their not-so-subtle pitchman, Vince Offer. If this doesn't tickle your funny bone, Abitranni from Cenarion Circle offered up what is arguably a better parody of the ShamWow infomercial. Teh Gladiators: Just When You Thought Ghouls Would Help. World of Warcraft, eh?: Valentine Vengeance. Ebenezer and Snooch: You probably shouldn't threaten your cat in the middle of playing WoW.

This isn't any ordinary Sunday. This is the last day to mend some hearts and kill some guys for some flowers, so you'd better take advantage of it! In the meantime, don't forget indulge in your weekly dose of comic goodness: Everyone likes web comics about cats (and WoW)! Thanks for the tip about Ebenezer and Snooch, Berry and Keyra! Scrolling back a few, this one reminds me of my cats. Although, I'd like to think that they think nicer things about me in general. This last one, while perhaps not technically game-related, certainly reminds me of random encounters with friends at the Bank after they'd been hacking up trolls. Now that I've covered what's new to the list, it's time to see what's up with Cru! He's met up with Chromie, which is awesome because she's one of my favorites. The wee little shapeshifted thing seems to crop up everywhere. Check out Crush from Dark Legacy Comics. Barrens chat isn't just for Chuck Norris jokes in Flintlocke vs. the Horde. Shakes and Fidget need a better Plan B, like their hunter buddy. Check out the latest from LFG. The latest from Massive Pwnage is simple and to the point. NoObz talks about a Title. I especially enjoyed the crack at the bottom about family photos. There is no Ding! this week, for better or for worse. You can always count on Teh Gladiators to have updated though! According to The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf, Peddlefeet Never Blinks. Of course, I wouldn't know, because I still don't have one. /QQ World of Warcraft, eh? has some filler! I love filler, I really do. The label means that people can assume that you didn't really try, and drew up something in a hurry, just for them, and a lot of personality tends to show through. P.S. No, I'm not making fun of Alzheimer's, and I doubt that the cat was either. Still, I'd like to let you all know that I'm here for you, even if you want to claim that I was. I'm good like that.

  • Sunday Morning Funnies: Mind your Elders

    by
    Amanda Miller

    02.08.2009

As I'm sure you all have heard by now, one of our favorite comics, Flintlocke vs the Horde, is slated to be set aside. Its creator, Dave "Fargo" Kosak, landed a shiny new job at Blizzard helping to give the game we all love some extra oomph. Fortunately, the storyline won't just be dropped, and you can expect it to wind up sometime in April. In response to reader Keyra's thoughts on last week's Ding! comic, I would like to offer my own. I would have to bet that almost every single person who has played WoW for any length of time at all does ponder why none of their farmers seem to have skulls, or why you can't get enough blood out of a giant monster to fill even one vial. We've all joked about it too. I mean gee, if only I could learn to rip off Troll ears without dismembering them into tiny chunks, I'd be in business. The lame jokes crop up on almost every quest with a poor drop rate, and I don't personally feel that the comic took it any further than I ever have, or any of my uninspired friends (no offense guys). It isn't that there isn't a humorous element to it, but that it's been done better in-game while roaming around by ourselves. I'm thrilled that you liked it, I just wanted to explain why so many of us are bucking it, other than that we miss the old stuff. Enough rambling, here are the comics: Cru the Dwarf: Deserous had better watch out, because someone intends to exact revenge. I don't blame him either, what Deserous did was mean. /sniffles. Speaking of sad stories, maybe you ungrateful masses should start treating your Elders better. Dark Legacy Comics knows how they feel. Experience Points knows what some of you really pray about (please don't send me hatemail, because I don't know what you pray about. It was all a gimmick to work this comic into a sentence when I haven't had my coffee yet). They also know that not all dogs make good anti-burlar hunter pets. Flintlocke and his overzealous ladyfriend are suddenly in a hurry to flee the scene. GU Comics: Lucky Red Envelopes. Now this orc isn't as respectful of his elders. Think of the poor elders! Shakes and Fidget learn that Two is Better than One (or well, maybe not). Check out the latest from LFG. Manic Graffiti: Noobcow and Monster Anatomy 101. NoObz: Laaag. Coincidentally, if you scroll down to the blurb beneath the comic, there's yet another confirmation that no one listens to their elders. I was afraid to look. This week's Ding! is definitely an improvement of sorts. The story is funnier, although not really in the comic format. Maybe if it had been told by a talented comedic writer, or as entertainment on a Podcast? I'd even take it as a guildie tale over Vent in between pulls. Still, I suppose I like pictures of people with their mouths open to show that they are indeed talking. Teh Gladiators: The Ten Storms. I love the artwork in this one! By saying this, I will totally ruin any of the funny in the note from the author beneath the comic strip, but I totally choked on my water when I read the first part of the second paragraph. In all seriousness though, I'm one of this comic's biggest fans, so you totally have a following. The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf: Lunar LoLs. There is less beaver in the latest artwork from World of Warcraft, eh? than there was the comic before, but it is definitely the sexy we were all promised. Go girl power and however you say that nowadays.

    02.01.2009

This week, the Funnies are back on a Sunday that is actually a Sunday, and not a fake Sunday. While I do enjoy pretending, I figured I should probably keep it simple. The weeks where "morning" seems to mean "afternoon" are tricky enough! It seems that Cru the Dwarf needs to hurry. I hate being asked for heals. What do people think I'm doing other than staring at their bars, anyway? Still, healers shouldn't really walk away in the middle of a raid without saying they'll brb. Experience Points. Blood Elves sometimes get a little carried away when it comes to power (or hair). This week on Flintlocke vs. the Horde, the main "belf" gets a taste of it. I don't think she listens well either, what with all of that rage. Luckily, in the end, she gets a new hair accessory! Flintlocke vs. the Horde. Caught any coins lately? GU Comics: The Ruse. Check out the latest from LFG. Manic Graffiti will be undergoing some changes. NoObz illustrates how Youth has changed over the years. Unlike last week, when Ding! simply had not updated (perfectly preferable to the previous week), this week, there is indeed a comic. This was (is?) one of my favorites, so I'm hoping that it picks up again. If you really want to look, don't say I didn't warn you, while trying not to be blunt and trollish. Put Down Your Nerf Stick! says Teh Gladiators. Oh noes, Disgraph has not been updated! Nor was Dark Legacy Comics, come to think of it. The Scout Report also seems to be sans update, and its navigation bar is still a bit wonky. World of Warcraft, eh, also did not deliver on the promised sexy filler art. I'm not criticizing, I'm just QQ'ing. There's a difference. Clearly, our fave comic artists should always be around to entertain us for free. It's a thin list. What's a gal to do? Improvise! Check out a discussion about fun WoW pranks. BRK always has something hilarious in a pinch! Adam has a new 'Silent Bob' approach to raiding. Ghostcrawler made an unintentional funny! Well I laughed, anyway. In case it gets hit with an editing bat, the beginning of this particular blue response was, "From our POV, we assume you have Rel@%#%@hment just like we assume you have a tank."

or, "They possess more flying fish than I expected."Although it is Monday, this morning I am going to pretend that it is in fact, Sunday. After all, no one really likes Mondays, even if they're manic. Luckily for you, I have quite the list of comics for your enjoyment! Awkward Zombie has posted another WoW-related comic, Stinking With Portals. Cru the Dwarf is now on page 72 of his echoing through time. Dark Legacy Comics points out the No-Fly Zone. I lean towards agreeing with them that the general placement of said zone is inconvenient. It seems to be a conspiracy on the part of the Flightmasters to convince me to pay them to fly me to Coldarra or Sholazar Basin. Have you ever wondered what life would be like if your reputation gains worked the same way as in-game? Actually, have you ever considered bravely sending a special someone an in-game gift? Experience Points has. In Flintlocke vs. the Horde, there seems to be a disagreement about who should be included as an adventuring buddy. GU Comics is Looking for Clever. Actually, Woody is looking to whore hire himself out! Check out the various ways you can put him to work and get some cool, collectible, and/or custom stuff. Check out the latest from LFG. Manic Graffiti always gets me smiling! Check out, Noobcow and Lame Jokes Heard While Waiting for PuGs to Start. Massive Pwnage has an inkling of what might be better than WoW. You Should See PvP. I always knew Flapcat was better than Ally-bird! Air Superiority was determined this past week on Monkey Punchers. NoObz points out that, especially for noobs, World of Warcraft can be a source of Stress. I know that many of you last week were disappointed with Ding!'s re-return, and unfortunately, there's no new comic this week. Teh Gladiators: Ping-Pong. World of Warcraft, eh? warns, You Won't Like Me When I'm Angry. The Scout Report has posted #63 and I love it. Unfortunately, I found out that when I tried to hit "Previous" to see if I had missed any other comics since last Sunday, it took me back to #52. So I recommend either jumping back five comics, or just reading from #52 if you think you've missed a couple! From The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf comes Nuts Make Me Giggle. On this musical-fruit-note, I end this week's list!

This week, I have a nice sizeable list for you all! It seems that most artists are back and hard at work. I also have added a new comic for the list, so get comfortable and start reading. Cru the Dwarf seems to have steered into some trouble. On top of that, he's gone and gotten everyone lost! Dark Legacy Comics has The Shoveltusk Problem. Experience Points relays tales of a raid. A battle's going down For the Birds. Check out the latest from LFG. Thanks for your comment last week, boo. Technically, this list is for WoW-related comics. Sometimes I include comics for other games or MMO's in general, if the subject matter seems relevant to something WoW players experience, such as lag or loot issues. I include LFG because many people consider it to be appropriate here, and because I think that it is something that WoW players would likely enjoy. The classes and races are familiar, and it isn't too difficult to skim back even a few comics to find the beginning of the current storyline. GU Comics presents Mr. Zappy Pants, a bit of a collaborative project. All of you Dalaran chefs out there might just relate to these comics from Manic Graffiti: Noobcow and the Wine and Cheese Platter and High Crime Rates in Dalaran. So many players seem to be in such a Rush. NoObz sees you skipping quest text. From The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf comes, I See Dead Dragons. World of Warcraft, eh? presents Hat Trick. Extra Life has this piece of advice: Go With What You Know. Massive Pwnge, a newbie to the list, presents Clammy. Teh Gladiators are up to more adventures, in shiny new locations. On The Scout Report, we learn a little about the origin of the name Scout. Ding! tells us a bit about Free Falling.

It's another Sunday, and slowly, the absent comic artists are returning. I know some of you have been asking about Shakes and Fidget, as well as Ding!, and though Ding! is still on a bit of a hiatus, Shakes and Fidget has updated. Even Dark Legacy Comics and Disgraph are back at it! Echoes Through Time is the latest from Cru the Dwarf. It's nice to see artists dedicated to their work, even while on vacation. Pencil and Paper for the win! Experience Points shows us that even pros can make hunter pet errors. Especially when he's been hanging out on voice chat. Episode 10, part 5, of Flintlocke vs. The Horde is For the Birds. Shakes and Fidget has finally updated, with All Good Things Come From Above. GU Comics demands, Show Me the Funny. You definitely have to read the blurb underneath the comic, if you aren't in the habit of doing so. Check out the latest from LFG. Manic Graffiti presents Noobcow and Now We Hate You For Reals. NoObz is Too Cute. From The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf comes Tuskarr Troubles. If you're a little confused, check out last week's notes. World of Warcraft, eh? presents, We're Thinning Out Their Numbers.

Happy New Year! While everyone has been a little off of their normal schedules due to the holidays, you may notice that some of your comics faves are absent this week. Fortunately, after digging a little deeper, I managed to come up with a sizeable list, including a comic that has not been previously featured on the Sunday Morning Funnies. Check out the latest from LFG. Behold, the Snowshaman! Okay, so this is not a comic, but it stands in place of a few that haven't updated recently. Awkward Zombie talks about the next patch and the Justice that it will bring. You should also check out The Root of the Problem from Awkward Zombie. Thanks for the tips Cameroo! Manic Graffiti presents Noobcow and the Winterlag. She's not the only one who is suffering from lag, disconnects, overpopulation, queues and general frustration either! Hurray for the holidays! NoObz makes some Resolutions. Wanted: Dead or Alive from Teh Gladiators. The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf has not been updating due to some technical difficulties, and I have missed it dearly. Fortunately, Disgraph is back to some capacity until everything can be righted. Check out Episode 30: Notes from Northrend. Check out Snowball.exe from Penny Arcade. Be sure to check out the latest from Cru the Dwarf. There is a relative on the horizon on The Scout Report. World of Warcraft, eh? wishes everyone a Happy New Year.

Although the holidays are beginning to simmer down, many people are still traveling, sleeping in, and otherwise busy with family or recreational activities. Check out this week's list of comics. It's short, but sweet! Donald for Algernon from Dark Legacy Comics. The title, and to some extent, the concept, are a reference to the Daniel Keyes novel, Flowers for Algernon. Experience Points offers up some wisdom at 80. You won't want to miss Flintlocke's holiday special. LFG needs somebody to lean on. NoObz is having a Crisis. On Teh Gladiators, it's a Family Affair. On The Scout Report, the Ogres have finally been paid. World of Warcraft, eh? released Eight Crazy Nights.
