    The best Xbox One games

The Xbox One has come a long way since its 2013 debut. Microsoft has fixed the console's hardware flaws with the One S and the recently released One X, but now it has a different problem to address: a dearth of compelling games you can't play anywhere else. In recent years the company has relied on timed third-party exclusives that eventually make their way to other platforms or are also available on Windows and Steam. It happens on PS4 as well, but the difference there is that Sony has a wide assortment of games that you can only play on its console. That's not to say there aren't exclusive games worth playing on Xbox; it's just that they're buried among annual Forza racing games, middling modern Halo releases and the testosterone-fueled Gears of War franchise. Microsoft has promised to break out of that predictable release cadence, though, so the future could be brighter than you may have come to expect. As it stands, these are the best Xbox One games you can play right now.

Little over a year since physical copies of the award-winning Ori and the Blind Forest hit stores, and we finally have a sequel. Yep, Ori and the Will of the Wisp looks to be an even more sumptuous two-dimensional platformer, and will arrive with Xbox One X optimizations as well as a 4K option if you have the appropriate hardware. We're hoping it will be a bit more forgiving than the original -- or maybe that was part of its charm? There's no word yet on release date, but we'll update you when we know more.

What began on Xbox One as a digital title, then a definitive edition on the same console, followed by one on PC is finally making its way to bricks and mortar stores. On June 14th, you'll be able to walk into your favorite fine purveyor of video games and grab a hard copy of Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition for $20. More than just the base game with added bits to explore and story to (probably) cry over, a post on Xbox Wire says the domestic physical release includes Ori's soundtrack on CD. It isn't glow-in-the-dark vinyl, but hey, at least you won't have to get up to flip the record every 20 minutes or so next month.

Alongside Halo 5: Guardians and Rise of the Tomb Raider, the Xbox One played host to a smaller but no less special console exclusive last year: Ori and the Blind Forest. The 2D platformer won a bucketload of awards and high praise from the press for its tight controls and gorgeous art style. The game was also made available on PC and now, a month after the Definitive Edition's arrival on Xbox One, Microsoft is prepping a similar release for the Windows crowd. The updated version arrives on April 27th, adding new areas, music, story elements and abilities to the original game.

Last week during our stream of Grand Theft Auto V, we asked our Twitch viewers what brand new game they wanted us to play on the show. Let it never be said that we don't deliver! Today on JXE Streams, we're going to play through two hours of Ori and the Blind Forest because you demanded it. If you're unfamiliar, Ori is a lushly animated adventure game where you guide a whispy spirit through an arboreal maze. Think Metroid by way of Spirited Away and you'll get the idea.
