Jade Dynasty is hitting the two-year mark on Wednesday, and the staff at Perfect World Entertainment wants to celebrate in style. And it starts today, with a doubled experience gain turned on from now until June 22nd. But that's only the smallest portion of the various anniversary events and prizes players can expect, which include special in-game giveaways on the game's various servers along with special quest events that can award items found nowhere else in the game. While most of the special events will be running for the length of the doubled experience event, a special site has been set up for a giveaway that goes live as soon as the clock ticks over to June 15th. There's also a cosplay contest for players and a special audiocast slated for some point during the anniversary week. Jade Dynasty players should take a look at all the festivities planned, which should more than satisfy long-term veterans of the game.

As a result, all such cards (available at retailers including Wal-Mart and Best Buy) may be redeemed for triple the normal Station Cash points. The promotion is valid from May 27th through May 30th, and SOE is also making a few special items available in select games to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend. Star Wars Galaxies is throwing a "bonus everything" weekend featuring double XP, double GCW, and double a-bunch-of-other-stuff, the details of which you can find on the official SOE forums.

Open betas are a magical time, a time when players can all take part in a new game before release without having to actually pay to get in. Of course, potential players of Asda 2 are already in the boat of not having to pay, as the game is an upcoming free-to-play title. But the game's open beta begins tomorrow regardless, and to help entice more players into the testing phase, the staff is running a number of promotions. Players who log in throughout the open beta or advance their Soul Mate bonds the fastest will be eligible to win some Campus Cash (the microtransaction currency for the game). Lucky Monster tokens can also be collected throughout the beta, giving players a chance to win iPods, a 3DS, and other prizes. If Asda 2's anime-style artwork and relationship system seem like the sort of thing you'd enjoy, be sure to check out the beta starting tomorrow.

"It's good to be back!" Many Sony Online Entertainment customers have said this these past few days as the studio's titles came back online after a two-week absence. They're not the only ones, either; many of the leads to SOE's host of MMOs are saying the same thing today. Eight developers representing a large portion of SOE's library posted "Welcome back!" messages on the Station Blog, expressing a mixture of relief, happiness, and hopeful visions for their games' futures. Several of these developers have also used the opportunity to show that they were working hard during the break. "We're incredibly glad to have our worlds back online again," EverQuest II's David Georgeson said, "and we really appreciate you all being so patient with us while we strengthened the castle walls." There's certainly a lot of information to digest in these eight posts. Lorin Jameson dropped the news that Mark Anderson's been moved up to become DC Universe Online's latest game director, while Georgeson hinted at a "major new feature set" for EQII that's in the works. Several of the devs mentioned that the downtime will result in a delay of future patches and expansions so that they can be properly tested. You can read the full assortment of "Welcome back!" posts at the Station Blog.

  • NCsoft increases profits, maintains revenues

It's a banner year over at the NCsoft household, as the company is showing a strong rise in net profits for the first quarter this year. Even though NCsoft's revenues have held relatively steady during Q1 2011, profits are up by 30% for a total of $37.5 million due to recent promotions in Lineage and Aion. The vast majority of NCsoft's money comes from Korea, with Chinese and Western markets trailing behind. According to Gamesindustry.biz, Aion is making the most bank for the company (accounting for 44% of revenues), followed by Lineage (28%) and Lineage 2 (22%). NCsoft's Sara Rogers sees nothing but good news in these numbers: "NCsoft consistently delivers strong figures in a way that most other games publishers can only dream of. These results prove that we have the MMO brands that people want to play and that we're able to grow and maintain customer loyalty, which is crucial in successful MMO publishing. This year, Gamescom will be very significant for us. We'll have a major presence and maybe even steal a headline or two."

  • Gamigo doubles down to celebrate its 10-year anniversary

Birthdays are usually a time when you get to have more things for yourself -- people bring you cake and presents while letting you act more or less however you want. But Gamigo is turning that formula on its ear just a bit. The publisher of several free-to-play games (such as Black Prophecy and King of Kings 3) is celebrating its 10th anniversary by giving away some bonuses to players, starting with a chance to get twice as much in-game money. While each individual game will be getting some more specific promotions in the coming days, every 10th player who purchases money from a game's cash shop will receive double the amount purchased. It's a decent chance to double the size of your in-game wallet at no extra charge, although the promotion is only running for the next 10 days. If you'd had your eyes on a big purchase lately, now might be the time to put down the money -- you just might get lucky.

Free stuff is the rallying cry of Spacetime Studios, developer of the renowned Pocket Legends mobile MMORPG. Last month we told you about the game's anniversary promotion, which featured free access to a boat-load of content zones including Balefort Castle, the Fathom Crypts, and the Alien Oasis Trilogy. Today we're happy to report that Spacetime has donned its generosity hat and is making these (and a few other) areas free forever. But wait, there's more! Spacetime is also introducing a brand-new Pocket Legends zone called the Sandstone Caves. The caves are "littered with precious stones -- and the broken bones of the foolish who have tried to take them." If that's not a dare, we don't know what is, and you'll want to level your character up a bit to ensure she's fit to challenge the 20 - 25 zone. You can learn more about the Sandstone Caves, free content, and Pocket Legends itself at the game's official website.

  • Ether Saga Odyssey officially launches

Some updates are too big to just write the whole thing off as a patch. Ether Saga Odyssey has just launched today... and if the name looks more than passingly familiar, it's because up until very recently the game was Ether Saga Online. Perfect World Entertainment has re-branded the game with a new title to commemorate the groundswell of content added with this update, including new races, new starting areas, and a brand-new graphics engine for the game. But the launch festivities don't stop with the new title -- there are plenty of other events and rewards to kick off the rebranding. For starters, experience gained will be doubled for the weekend, which should help new players bring characters up to level 30 faster than ever. That's a good thing, as new characters who hit 30 will receive special rewards, as will players who stay logged in for an extended period of time. The promotions end on May 4th, so if you're itching to give the new Ether Saga Odyssey a try, now is the time.

Pocket Legends is ready to blow out some birthday candles, and players of the portable MMORPG are standing by to take the cake. Spacetime Studios is giving away all of the game's premium areas beginning on April 19th, which means that new and existing players get full access to Balefort Castle, Fathom Crypts, The Lost Expedition, and more -- all free of charge. Players can level to the cap and freely enjoy all of Pocket Legends' zones through Monday, May 4th. This adds up to hundreds of hours of free content, and Spacetime is also decorating each in-game town with cakes, streamers, and balloons -- as well as handing out in-game party hats to everyone. If that's not enough for you, Spacetime's Cinco Barnes is starring in a YouTube short extolling the virtues of the upcoming free content bonanza. Check it out after the cut.

Dell's Streak 5 tabletphone hasn't held our interest much lately, even with Android 2.2 on board, but Dell's got a new deal that may be too good to pass up. If you already had your heart set on nabbing a Dell notebook or desktop PC priced at over $699 -- say, one of those shiny new Sandy Bridge rigs -- you can add an unlocked Streak 5 to your cart for an additional Benjamin. Now that's what we call an impulse buy. [Thanks, Matthew K.]

Are you a real girl? If so, you've probably heard that line once or twice during your MMO travels. This time it might be a welcome advance since it heralds the possibility of landing a scholarship to help with your game development-related education expenses. SOE is ponying up for its fourth annual Gamers in Real Life (G.I.R.L.) scholarship, and this year's lucky winner will nab up to $10,000 for tuition and other expenses as well as a paid internship at one of SOE's dev studios. The entry requirements are pretty basic (namely, you must be enrolled in a gaming-related undergrad program, you can't graduate prior to spring 2012, and you have to comply with the program's official rules). Prospective students should fill out an online application and submit two pieces of concept art as well as an essay for consideration. The deadline is April 6th, 2011, and SOE will announce the winner on May 16th, 2011. Head to the official program website for full details.

Ready to make your mark on Dome City? Sure, you can troll up the the /city chat or become (in)famous for your mad sniping skillz, but we're talking about literally leaving your mark on Global Agenda for all to see, and for all time. Hi-Rez's Make Your Mark challenge is in full swing, and you'll need to win 50 Merc PvP (or Raid PvE) missions in the month of February to qualify. Fifty victories nets you a limited edition Matrix dye, while the top 500 players (in terms of total victories for qualifying mission types) will have their avatar names permanently inscribed on the VR Arena wall. The top 25 players will see their name in lights inside Dome City itself, not simply at the central news vendor but rather on one of the permanent vid screens. Head to AgendaStats to check your progress, and grab your favorite caffeinated beverage, as February is fading fast.

  • City of Heroes gives players a grace period for anniversary rewards

    02.07.2011

Some time ago, City of Heroes announced the Vanguard Pack, a reward for players who maintained an unbroken subscription from the beginning of February until the anniversary in April. It's a fine offer and a chance for players to get some rewards without having to do anything extra. But if you meant to return and didn't quite get around to it, you probably assumed your chance had passed. Not so, as the team at Paragon Studios has extended the eligible time period until February 14th. All players maintaining an active subscription from February 14th until April 18th will receive the anniversary rewards for free, including the Vanguard Pack, a new emote, a special badge, and a new chest emblem. The rewards don't actually unlock until the 18th, but the 18th is the last day you have to maintain the subscription to be eligible. Former City of Heroes players who don't want to miss out or players enticed to try the game for the first time should be happy to know that there are still seven more days to meet the revised eligibility standards for the rewards -- after that, you're all out of grace.

  • Fantasy Earth Zero's greatswords make up a lost chapter

    12.13.2010

The last major update to Fantasy Earth Zero, Season 2, saw some pretty significant changes to the makeup of the game, helped along by the addition of the anti-personnel Fencer class. But tomorrow will see another shakeup to the structure of the large-scale PvP game with the addition of the Lost Chapter, including the new Greatsword skills for Warriors. These new skills give Warriors an option to discard defense completely in exchange for powerful offensive talents. If the new spinning death of a two-handed sword isn't enticement enough, the team at Gamepot USA is also taking the opportunity to run a small giveaway for players via Facebook. All participants in the promotion will receive in-game items, and a few lucky players will also be receiving gift cards to Amazon. Fantasy Earth Zero players can look forward to the new patch tomorrow, but the promotion will be running through December 30th, giving plenty of time to participate.

  • Another Mog Bonanza coming to Final Fantasy XI

    11.17.2010

The Mog Bonanza is coming back for another celebration of a new year in Final Fantasy XI, giving players the chance to earn insane prizes without doing anything more arduous than guessing a number correctly. Of course, it's a five-digit number that you only get one real shot at guessing right, so there's a good cause behind the quality of prizes -- mountains of gil, Empyrean weapons, and unique furnishings for your in-game home. As with prior events, you get prizes as long as you guess the last number correctly, with better prizes awarded the more digits you get correct. Marbles go on sale for the price of 2000 gil starting on December 22nd, and with a grand total of 10 marbles per character, you can at least ensure that you wind up winning a statue -- or try to go for broke with maximum possible earnings. Take a look at the full list of prizes on the official site, and start guessing your numbers now, as it's a chance to earn fantastic Final Fantasy XI prizes for just a little bit of work.

    11.04.2010

They've returned... the scourge of Paragon City, the greatest threat to Earth that the world has ever known, and the source of much player excitement. After a long hiatus, the Rikti invasion has returned to City of Heroes, and that means players can start enjoying the war against the invaders all over again. Running until 11:59 p.m. PDT on November 7th, the invasion will span all of the game's zones and force players to work together to defeat the alien threat. If you've taken part in one of the smaller triggered invasions that have hit the game every so often, you'll be ready for the mechanics but not the scope. If you've never seen the even before, however, it's a great chance for players to bond and take part in one of the more dynamic live events the game has to offer. Rikti attacks can take place in any zone of the game and will be running on a regular basis for the duration. And if you think you need to take your City of Heroes character through the event in style, might we suggest taking a look at our ongoing contest for the new Origin Pack?
