  • PSN Thursday: GTA IV trailer, DLC for UT3 and Warhawk sale

    03.27.2008

This week's PSN update brings a hearty dose of content. Warhawk, which has an update and expansion incoming, is on sale the next couple weeks for $30 (normally $40). There's also a flOw bundle for $9 that includes the game plus expansion. UT3 players should make sure to pick up their free maps; meanwhile, High Stakes poker players with a PlayStation Eye can download the free camera add-on and show off how they play poker naked from their living room couch. The reason for the late PSN update today was because the embargo on the Grand Theft Auto IV trailer (available on PSN) had to lift, so check that out just to give purpose to this delay. We'll put a link to PS3 Fanboy's Euro update as soon as we get it -- we're thinking it was delayed because of the GTA IV trailer as well. Update: The Euro update.

Pour yourself a glass of wine, draw a bath, sprinkle some rose petals in there, a little sandalwood bath oil, grab Rendezvous with Rama ... and that experience alone will be more exciting than the PSN offerings this week. There's a Condemned 2 demo in there, that Motorstorm trailer, and the Rock Band DLC per usual, but that's about it. Sorry, there's also some Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08 courses we all know dad's been dying to play. Maybe next week will be better?Check out the complete list of this week's content after the break. To feel Europe's PAIN, head on over to PS3 Fanboy.

Get your equal-opportunity woman beating on in this week's PSN update with PAIN's two new characters. Ginger the Nurse and Buffy the Cheerleader are ready to feel the impact of pavement and cars for $1 a piece. The Toy Home expansion may interest some folks along with the God of War: Chains of Olympus PS3 theme for free. Beyond that there's a smattering of random stuff to go with the newest Rock Band and GHIII DLC. Check out the complete list of this week's content after the break. To see what the Europeans got (hint: not much) go visit our pint-loving comrades at PS3 Fanboy.

    03.06.2008

Just like XBLA, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil is the only new game offering on PSN this week. Sure, there's the Rock Band and GHIII DLC, but its a pretty tame week overall. Now, for those with access to the Japanese PSN it's a different story. Those people should go grab echochrome immediately and twist their brains, Escher-style. Check out the complete list of this week's content after the break. Wondering what the Europeans got? Take a little trip down the yellow brick road to PS3 Fanboy. %Gallery-2571%

Not through pummeling your pixelated pals with PAIN? Well, this week the PSN update will allow you to procure for a pittance a pirate to persistently pound into pavement. Skurv Dogg is a new downloadable character for PSN's PAIN at a mere $.99. Beyond that there's your normal serving of Rock Band DLC with a side order of No Doubt for Guitar Hero III. Want more? Um, there's the Star Trek teaser trailer in glorious HD to fill your television screen for a little over a minute. Check out the complete list of content after the break and go say hi to the gentlemen at PS3 Fanboy for European update details.

You bought the game! Now play the demo. PixelJunk Monsters: THE DEMO arrives today, just 28 days after the full game. Brilliant. In other news, now that the PS Store's catalog of Jet Moto games is finally complete, maybe next week Sony will let us revisit something other than x-treme hoverbiking.Check out the complete list of content after the break, including PC Store additions -- or head over to PS3 Fanboy for European update details.

As Roger Clemens returns from hawking wolf tickets before Congress, baseball gears up for spring training with MLB 08 demos for both PS3 and PSP available on the PS Store today. If bats and balls aren't you thing, the Patapon demo has finally been released from the evil grips of the GameStop pre-order. The PlayStation Network becomes host to a misplaced celestial body this week, with a Lost Planet multiplayer demo allowing up to 8 PS3 owners (16 in the full version) to stomp through the snow and park a bullet in someone's parka. Sure, the quality of writing in this post just took a dive, but it's all in service of a segue to Go! Sports Skydiving, a new downloadable $5 title. It's pretty safe to say at this point the team behind Folklore is quite happy to keep adding extra content and value to their game through downloadable content. This week the PlayStation Store gets another serving of Folklore content with the "Nightmares" and "Visions of the Tower" packs. Of course, the Rock Band DLC is available as per usual, and if you're looking for something cheeky, there is a free PixelJunk Monsters theme to download. Even though the Folklore team says this is its final add-on for the game, why not keep reaping the rewards of absent competition in the space?Check out the complete list of content after the break and wander over to PS3 Fanboy for the European update details.

The PlayStation Store gets another heap of PixelJunk today, as Monsters replace Racers in Q-Games sophomore effort, offered for a mere $7.99 ... for a limited time. The update is rounded out by a pair of demos (this one and that one) and a lonely PS1 game, in addition to a smorgasbord of DLC – nope, not the new Guitar Hero tunes.Check out the complete list of content after the break, including PC Store additions – or head over to PS3 Fanboy for European update details.

While the rest of the Xbox 360-owning world enjoys the Turok demo, North American players are left waiting ... unless they have a PS3, in which case the demo for both Turok and FIFA Street 3 are available in the latest PSN Thursday update. In addition, there are two PlayStation Eye "games" (read: interactive screensavers) available for $2 a pop, those MotorStorm maps we told you about, some Rock Band DLC, and a bunch of videos and themes. Check out the full list of offerings, neatly indexed into adorable little groups, after the break. European? Check out what's in Store for you at PS3 Fanboy.

    01.11.2008

This week PSN Thursday brings us a demo (and update) for frenetic shooter Super Stardust HD, along with the Folklore expansion packs and the demo to the game that if you're a games reviewer might just cause you to lose your job. For those who need to get a little nostalgic with PlayStation's original mascot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back is available for $6 and, as normal, there's always this week's Rock Band offerings. Those on the continent of fine wine, cheese, and sausages can scope the Euro PSN update over at PS3 Fanboy. 01.03.2008

Today on PSN a double dose of Rock Band tunes finally squeezes its way through the pipeline, bringing with it a mess of Guitar Hero III tracks. If toy instruments aren't your forte, consider investing in some new cars for ProStreet (how can you resist a bimmer for a mere $2.50?) or shed those pads and wrap your arms around a real man in the free NFL Tour demo. That, or sit back and watch be jealous that Japan is actually playing GT5 Prologue. Euro folk can peep this week's "surely not" offerings over on PS3 Fanboy. Full details of the US update are posted after the break.

This week's batch of PlayStation Network content is pretty massive - "our biggest ever," according to the official US PlayStation blog. There's a catch, of course, in that PSN will not be updated next Thursday (also known as Christmas Eve). Enough pouting, let's open our presents a week early!Warhawk fans have the most gifts under the tree this week, with the already-opened Omega Dawn expansion, a free theme, a game video of the expansion and (gasp!) the original Warhawk PS One title downloadable as a classic for play on either the PS3 or PSP. Rhythm fans also get a tasty sampler of the usual Rock Band DLC and a free Guitar Hero III song, the holiday-themed "We Three Kings" (strangely absent from the list: the premium GH3 songs for this week).Downloadable games include Toy Home, Snakeball and two PS Eye games: Trials of Topoq and Mesmerize: Distort. A demo for Blacksite: Area 51 is also out, and those looking for more festive updates can check out the free Folklore DLC and PAIN wallpaper. Full update list after the break; check out our sister site PS3 Fanboy for European PSN update info.Update: So apparently we have two fewer days to shop for Christmas gifts than we thought. Hmph.

PlayStation 3 owners finally have something they can gloat about: not only do they get a demo for Burnout Paradise, but they also get it a week before any Xbox 360 owners using the free Silver membership. Today's PSN update also includes new Rock Band DLC as well as new bowlers for last week's High Velocity Bowling, costing one Washington apiece. If you don't want to worry about unlocking Need for Speed Pro Street, you can spare yourself the gameplay for a meager $2.49 to $9.99. 12.06.2007

This week's PSN Thursday update rolls in with some High Velocity Bowling. The $10 PSN downloadable game is joined by a few Folklore add-ons and the prerequisite Rock Band DLC. Although we shouldn't be that excited, we're a little giddy over the free Ratchet & Clank theme -- and no, it's not a furry thing. (Not that there'd be anything wrong with that if it was.)For the PSN European update check out sister-site PS3 Fanboy. US folks can hit up the full update list after the break.

  • PSN Thursday: Heap on the 'Pain' with Resistance maps and Motorstorm vehicles

    11.29.2007

This week's PSN Thursday update brings the Pain (sorry). The idea behind this $10 PSN downloadable game is to inflict as much pain as possible on your pitiable pixelated counterpart through myriad ill-advised (and physics-based!) scenarios. If you enjoy watching people getting launched from a slingshot into the side of a building, then we know the game for you (and we've also got the number of a great therapist). Not into the pain thing? There are also new maps for Resistance: Fall of Man, vehicles for Motorstorm, David Bowie Rock Band DLC, and Oblivion's Shivering Isles. For the PSN European update please check out sister-site PS3 Fanboy, US folks can hit up the full update list after the break.

Just like our GameTap Thursday post, it looks like our PSN Thursday post is coming in a little early because of the Turkey Day holiday. You pretty much know about most of this stuff already, but we're going to put it all on a platter after the break for easy consumption. The highlight this week -- and we're stretching that definition just a bit -- is the new PlayStation Eye titles Aquatopia and Operation Creature Feature.Of course, for the Rock Band faithful there is all the new DLC content available. Also, even though it's not part of the update, don't forget about the PSN "sale" going on right now.[Via PS3 Fanboy]

  • New games this week: Super Mario Galaxy edition

See, now this is where it gets punishing. Kiss your poor wallet "Adios!" friends, because we're staring down the barrel of a really tough week. Sure, there's Super Mario Galaxy, and it's an easy choice for the featured pick (much like Baby, nobody puts the plumber in the corner). But he's also got an insane lineup of hot titles on his heels, including Crysis, Assassin's Creed, BlackSite: Area 51, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. And there's ... more. You can check out the full list after the break, you poor, soon-to-be-broke sap -- it may just be the last time you can do so before your computer gets repossessed.
