Kodak hasn't made a Super 8 camera since 1982, however the company announced on Tuesday at CES 2016 that it will debut a prototype video camera designed by Yves Behar that utilizes the venerable analog medium. Citing the preference towards physical media of many Hollywood directors -- including the likes of Steven Spielberg, JJ Abrams and Quentin Tarantino -- Kodak says that it will launch multiple Super 8 cameras, film development services and post production tools as part of its Super 8 Revival plan.

  • Who's your daddy? Sprint and Softbank depict bizarre family portraits

With its Framily plans, Sprint wants you to convince friends, family and possibly outright strangers, to join the carrier and chip a few bucks off your bill. It's even created a new ad series to show just how broad its definition of "framily" is. The dad's a hamster, while the daughter speaks only in French, accompanied by three animated birds. However, Sprint's Frobinsons have to go a long ways to match the sheer offbeat-ness of Softbank's answer to "framily," the Shiratos in Japan. That framily consists of a talking dog as patriarch, a wife who has the real power, a daughter played by popular actress Aya Ueto and a non-Japanese son played by Dante Carver (a Softbank commercial mainstay). The core family unit is then augmented by bit-parts from 'Uncle' Quentin Tarantino, Manchester United's Shinji Kagawa (and his dolphin father) and Tommy Lee-Jones, the live-in-maid-from-space. Ad-Age wasn't a fan, but we hope the Frobinsons are just getting started. We've pulled together a few English-subtitled Softbank ads and added them, alongside Sprint's interpretation, to the video gallery below.

If you dig Quentin Tarantino flicks, an eight movie, 10-disc Blu-ray boxed set is on the way that will probably pique your interest. Lionsgate and Miramax are collaborating on the Tarantino XX set, which captures 20 years of the filmmaker's career and includes Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol. 1, Kill Bill Vol. 2, Death Proof and Inglourious Basterds. Additionally, there's special collectible packaging and artwork (shown after the break, along with the press release and full list of specs) and the two extra discs are filled with five hours of all new bonus interviews, retrospectives and the like. It seems unlikely to answer the mystery of what was in Marcellus Wallace's briefcase, but it will be available November 20th with an MSRP of $119.99, although Amazon is currently listing it at $83.97.

Yes, we've been here before, but with Miramax back on its feet and under a new distribution deal with Lionsgate we're pretty sure these new October 4 release dates for Quentin Tarantino classics Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown on Blu-ray will stick. Reportedly, Jackie Brown will be a Walmart exclusive but other than that no details are known just yet. We'll keep our eyes out for official information, but for now you can check out the trailers again after the break.

Disney's sale of Miramax put high definition releases of much of the catalog on hold, so while a few snagged imported versions from Poland most US buyers have been without a copy of Pulp Fiction on Blu-ray. According to Forbes, getting the disc out and on shelves is among new CEO Mike Lang's first priorities. we thought were close back in 2009 but that didn't pan out, now that the $663 million sale has gone through, it seems increasingly likely that the gimp will return in 2011.

  • Inglourious Plummers trailer finally combines Mario and Tarantino

We always thought the Leguizamo-infused Super Mario Bros. film had the propensity to be amazing, if only a more visionary director had grasped the reins of the adaptation. The video we've posted after the jump gives a look into a parallel universe of what could have been -- a universe where Quentin Tarantino had control of the plumber's first silver screen excursion. The video was produced by the folks over at GamerVision. You might want to brush up on the trailer for Tarantino's upcoming film Inglourious Basterds before you check it out -- their video is a shot-by-shot remake of said trailer, only it takes place in the Mushroom Kingdom instead of Nazi Germany. We never thought about it before watching the video, but the similarities between these two regions are actually rather striking.[Via DumbDrum]

Put down that import order form Tarantino & Samuel L. Jackson fans, Disney/Miramax has apparently set a date for Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown, with both coming to Blu-ray August 4. High-Def Digest notes they're tagged special editions, so in lieu of any official information about specs, extra features or price, we still expect only the best fo these long awaited flicks.

  • Metareview - Reservoir Dogs (PS2)

Ah yes, just the latest in an ever-growing succession of pitiful movie-to-game adaptations. There are exceptions -- Goldeneye, King Kong, and The Warriors come to mind -- but Reservoir Dogs is not one of them. What's most disappointing about Eidos and Volatile's misstep is that it wasn't developed under the time constraints of a current blockbuster tie-in license, but rather, it was an opportunity to pay homage to Tarantino's influential film. Fourteen years ago we would have expected a Reservoir Dogs game to be terrible, but now? C'mon guys, you gotta do better than this: Eurogamer (50/100) - "Tarantino's movie showed audiences just what could be achieved with no money but stacks of talent, while the game merely demonstrates what can be pulled off with current generation hardware and enough spare cash to snap up the rights to a cult movie." Official Playstation 2 Magazine UK (50/100) - "A bad idea executed only slightly better." [Oct 2006] IGN (30/100) - "At least you have the movie soundtrack to fall back on, but that isn't saying much." Update: Removed IGN (UK) review; replaced with IGN (US) review.[Also available on Xbox]

  • Printing error prompts UK recall of Xbox Reservoir Dogs

    by

When a game gets pulled from shelves nowadays, "printing error" is not the reason that generally comes to mind. Incessant glitches, political furor, or abysmal sales (either by the title or its supported console) are the usual suspects when a game disappears, temporarily or otherwise, but this time Eidos recalled copies of Reservoir Dogs for the Xbox due to a supposed printing error. As GameseIndustry.biz hypothesizes, the problem stems from an 18 certificate logo not being printed on the Xbox disc. While the rating is still (presumably) present on the game's case, impressionable children who overlook the box's visible rating will not be deterred warned by the disc itself. Eidos has yet to confirm why it has recalled the game, nor has it said when the game will go back on sale. Reservoir Dogs was released this Tuesday in Europe. It is expected to be release in the U.S. late October. The game was recently banned (by way of classification refusal) in Australia.

  • Reservoir Dogs coming to Blu-ray this fall

This is an odd pick for the format considering the treatment of the character Mr. Blue, but Reservoir Dogs will be making the jump to Blu-ray at the same time the 15th anniversary edition is released October 24th. Director Quentin Tarantino's 1991 Sundance hit and cult favorite will be released by Lionsgate on standard DVD in the Gas Can Edition with loads of extras including 6.1 DTS-ES and 5.1 Dolby Surround audio tracks plus loads of featurettes, other than the soundtracks and requisite 1080p transfer the details of the Blu-ray release are unknown.
