What business does Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono have in wanting to see Namco's flagship fighter Tekken and PlayStation social network service Home come together? Ono told Famitsu (via IGN) that he'd like to see a Tekken 6 tie-up with Home, suggesting that both the Street Fighter and Tekken communities could form some sort of cross-community tournament. A sort of Fight Club perhaps? Those guys at Capcom sure love those, don't they?Speaking of Fight Clubs, Ono also revealed the possibility of a Street Fighter-themed game space. With Capcom already working on exclusive content for Home, this one is practically a given. Now, we just need to see if Namco wants to respond to Ono's invitation. Go ahead and press start Namco, we'll cue the "New Challenger" music.

Looking for a fight? Well, you won't find one here. You will find a pop'n fresh trailer for Tekken 6, though. Ah, and new high-res screens of the incoming PS3 and Xbox 360 fighter. It ... looks like Tekken all right, although we're still a little underwhelmed by the visuals, especially after months of playing Namco's own Soul Calibur IV. You?%Gallery-43857%

There's only one King of Iron Fist Tournament. Okay, so there have actually been five of them, but who's counting, right? There's even a sixth on the way, and we've got a trailer to prove it. The new trailer showcases some CG cutscenes, complete with strange and mysterious plot elements no one really cares about. No, what matters is all those glorious (and occasionally goofy) fighters. Luckily, they're in there too, putting the smack down. They flash by pretty quickly though. See if you can spot them all!Tekken 6, incidentally, arrives this fall.

Tekken 6, the latest in Namco Bandai's seminal fighting series, will be delivering a body blow to consoles next fall. Oh wait, you say, we already knew that. True, Microsoft confirmed last October that in Fall 2009 Feng Wei, Devil Jin and the rest would strike the Xbox 360 across the face. In addition, CVG reports that the game will get an equal bout on the PlayStation 3 at the same time. The announcement was made during a recent event put on by Atari, which will publish the title in Europe on both platforms, adding yet another marquee feather in the once-struggling company's hat. Next year is shaping up to be a memorable one for fighting game fans with Street Fighter IV and Tekken 6 going toe-to-toe. So tell us, where do you place your bets?

As part of today's press conference, Atari unloaded a bunch of fresh screenshots for next year's upcoming Tekken 6 and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. You can view the Tekken and Riddick screens below, but be warned about those Riddick screens. If you thought Gears of War was lacking color, then keep clear of Riddick's drab and dull "color" palette. Actually, it isn't so much a color palette as it is a black to white gradient. %Gallery-38363%%Gallery-35705%

  • Sonilex is slimmer than the PS3 and like, totally plays Tekken

Hey there, budget-conscious gamers: the Vii didn't quite pan out the way we'd all hoped, but we just want you to know you still don't have to spend $500 or wait for a PS3 Slim to hit the shelves to have a gaming experience worthy of 2008. Just pick Sonilex -- it's a fraction of the size of the PS3, and at around 32 bucks even the most stingy gamer can splurge for it. Word is 41 "NES games" have been released for Sonilex this year alone (probably piled into that odd-looking cart on the left there), including, incredibly but really, the unauthorized NES port of "Tekken." After all, the game cart says "2008" on it so you know you're getting the absolute cutting edge of NES games -- like, ones that were never even released until just now, okay? No word on Blu-ray though. That's a deal-breaker if you ask us.

Surprising almost no one, Tekken 6 has been officially announced for a fall 2009 release on the PS3/Xbox 360. The new English language trailer takes us to the magical world of Tekken, where kangaroos and pandas can hold grudge matches against fat people. Who says games aren't art?

var digg_url = 'http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/microsoft-confirms-tekken-6-for-360-fall-2009-release/'; A rumor we first reported on in Jan. 2007 has finally become reality. Microsoft confirmed during its pre-Tokyo Game Show 2008 press conference that Namco Bandai's Tekken franchise will appear on Xbox 360. Tekken 6 will, according to Microsoft, appear on the console in "fall 2009." The sixth installment in the series – which has been a PlayStation mainstay since the original launched in 1995 – was expected to continue console exclusivity on PS3. It will, instead, ship for both consoles simultaneously.

  • Tekken 6 in December, PS3 exclusivity in question

In a not so recent interview (it has been spotted/in print since April), Haruki Suzaki (project director for Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection) and Ryuichi Enomoto (international sales rep) talk to Filipino gaming mag GamEX Magazine about Tekken 6, which is currently out in arcades. The most important information regarding the game involves Suzaki tentatively revealing that Tekken 6 is due for a December 2008 release worldwide on consoles. However, when pressed for more information regarding PS3-exclusivity, Suzaki replied "No. It hasn't been determined yet as of the moment ..." The statement -- given how the Tekken series has been strictly placed on PlayStation platforms for the past decade -- raises some eyebrows towards the possibility of Tekken 6 landing elsewhere as well. Suzaki reaffirms that the game is still being primarily developed for the PS3 ... but with that in mind, it sounds like Namco could end up pulling an FFXIII.[Via N4G]

Yeah. They're making a Tekken movie. The popular PlayStation fighting game gets the silver screen treatment, just like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat before it. Love them or hate them, but video game movies are here to stay.Cung Le plays "Marshall Law" from the franchise, and he can be seen in costume in this newly released pic (available on his MySpace page). Looks like he's going to need to grow a mustache if he wants to complete the role. But hey, at least the pants look pretty spot on.For more details on the upcoming Tekken film, which takes place near the Tekken 6 timeline, visit SDTekken.com.[Via Joystiq]

We're still not sure if we want to actually see a film based on Tekken, but we know that whether it crashes and explodes into a million pieces or narrowly escapes utter suckage, we want to see the journey leading up to it. To that end, we've got two new pictures for you of Cung Le as "Marshall Law" (above) and Jonathan Foo as "Jin Kazama" just below the jump.We don't really feel any better or worse about the Tekken film based on these, but we have to admit one thing: They nailed the pants. Nailed them.

Click for high-resolution image. PSN downloadable Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is getting another update today, one which Japanese players have enjoyed for weeks now. The most significant additions in this recent patch include DualShock 3 support and Pickup Match mode, which allows players to bypass the waiting room and continue playing one-on-one matches continuously. Other tweaks include the ability to input and display names for rooms, a "flag" search (to find the best possible connections), new notifications and new casual matches. As expected, bugs have also been squashed. The patch should be available for all American gamers today. %Gallery-5298%

  • Rumor: More Tekken casting details emerge

    03.28.2008

We were delighted (and frightened) when we heard casting details for the new Street Fighter flick, but we're a little less eager to learn the stars of a Tekken movie. We guess it's largely because we have a harder time keeping the Tekken stable straight (it's the one with Pepsiman, right?). Regardless, Kung Fu Cinema says they've obtained a slew of casting details. The site lists Kelly Overton as Christie, Luke Goss as Steve Fox (we knew that one), Gary Daniels as Bryan Fury, Candice Hillebrand as Nina Williams, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Mishima, Darrin Henson as Raven, Ian Anthony Dale as Kazuya, Cung Le as Marshall Law, Marian Zapico as Anna Williams, and the UFC's Roger "Matador" Huerta plays Miguel Rojas. Like Street Fighter, a movie based on Tekken is a terrible, terrible idea. But if we have to watch a movie filled with SF's C-listers or Tekken's several martial artists, we're leaning towards column B.

  • Tekken 5: DR gets modes, rumble support in new update

    03.12.2008

Namco will soon be re-energizing the PS3 version of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection with a new update coming March 18. The update is set to bring on a few changes by adding gameplay modes, DualShock 3 rumble support, and doing a little patching up of things all around. The most notable addition to Tekken 5: DR is the Pickup Match Mode that let's players continuously fight new opponents without having to switch back to the matching room. This change will probably make the experience feel more arcade-like as there's a quicker transition from match to match. You can also change your match search settings after the brawl, just in case you want to face another type of opponent. Other tweaks call on the ability to create/display names for rooms, an added flag option for rooms which toggles certain search/fight conditions, an adjustment to the point allotment system, and match results are now unrecorded when Rank Match is set to off. After reading all that, we bet you can't wait to fire up your PS3 and grab that update. Hold on just a sec there, you might want to sit down for this: this update is currently only for the Japanese version. Yep. We feel your anger; however, we're positive this baby will be coming our way soon. Namco probably just needs to test the waters and make sure everything is all hunky-dory before unleashing this killer patch upon the rest of the world.

  • Luke Goss to star in Tekken film

English pop star turned Hollywood hottie Luke Goss has signed on to play a role in the upcoming Tekken film. According to his official web site, the English actor will portray Steve Fox, the British boxer first seen in Tekken 4.Goss first made a name for himself in the boy band Bros (that's right, "Bros"), which he formed with his twin brother in the 1980s. Once the band broke up in the early 90s, Goss made the smooth transition over to actor, appearing in such films as Blade II and Hellboy 2. Filming for Tekken begins this month in Shreveport, Louisiana, under the direction of Dwight Little.

  • Octave Engine in Tekken 6 makes waves

    by

Indeed it does. Quite literally. The Octave Engine is the world's first simulation engine to dynamically simulate hydrodynamics on a game machine. In the video, the Octave Engine shows how it accurately simulates waves and splashes in Tekken 6. Described as "natural environment middleware," the Octave Engine is not only capable of simulating hydrodynamics but also the physics of other small particle systems, like sand. In a game like Tekken 6, this technology would definitely add a touch of realism to an otherwise static fighting arena. Imagine this: two combatants are brawling on a beach; characters leave their footprints in the sand as the waves crash against the shore, slowly washing away the prints with each pass. And of course, don't forget this is happening while the characters are knocking each other into the water for some huge, realistic splashes.

A film based on Tekken has been in development limbo for a while now, presumably for other reasons besides the fact that a movie based on Tekken is a very bad idea. Now it seems that the project is gaining significant momentum with the announcement of a director, shooting schedule and even a few plot details. Variety reports that the film will be helmed by Dwight Little, who you might know from his work on the sequel to Anacondas, Murder at 1600 or Steven Segal's Marked For Death. He's also got some video game experience after serving as the director for Ground Zero Texas (wait, that had a director?). Little says he'll begin shooting on Feb. 4 in Shreveport, La. from a script by frequent collaborator Alan McElroy (no relation) about "a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people." So, yeah, it's picking up steam. We're just not sure yet if the train is hurtling toward a brick wall.

Brand new images of Namco's upcoming Tekken 6 look good. Too good. The images, while not in glorious 720p, still do a great job of highlighting the stellar looks of Namco's next iteration of its classic brawler. • European PSN updates for November 8th

    11.08.2007

Wow. How about that - it's past midnight in the UK and there's been no European releases post. Well it's not exclusively our fault - while the Uncharted demo may have kept us busy for the past hour or so, the fact that the PSN Store was inaccessible also contributed. It's taken us until now to get the exact information for today's PSN update, but we finally have. Here's the complete release list: Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online (£14.99) Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online Upgrade (£3.49) Cool Boarders PS1 game (£3.49) NFS: PROSTREET demo (free) Folklore "Bottom of the sea" pack (£1.49) Motorstorm "Devil's Weekend" pack (£3.99) Uncharted "Animation Overview" trailer (free) PSP Shapes Your World trailer (free) Not a bad wee update. Certainly nothing as impressive as the previous couple of weeks, but Tekken 5 fans will certainly be happy. Cool Boarders is a nice wee extra along with the add-on packs for Folklore and Motorstorm. Be sure to check out the "PSP Shapes your World" trailer - it may look like an IKEA advert to begin with, but give it a chance. For those of you upset about the Uncharted demo debacle, take solace in the knowledge that we will be receiving it within the next few weeks. Until then, we have actual games to be getting along with - Call of Duty 4 and Ratchet and Clank both get released tomorrow. Er, make that today.
