  • Castle Crashers: 15 minutes of castle crashing

With only eight days to wait for Castle Crashers to storm the Xbox Live Arcade (for 1200 Microsoft points), we're impatiently finding new ways to occupy our time until next Wednesday. We find that sketching Castle Crashers knight doodles helps relieve some of the built up excitement as well as baking mini knight shaped cookies (don't ask.) But for those of you who don't mind "spoiling" your first fifteen minutes of Castle Crashers fun, then make your way over to Destructoid. They have 15 minutes of exclusive Castle Crashers gaming footage (warning: you may want to mute) that should take the edge off your urges. We can wait, though. We'll just bake more knight shaped cookies in the meantime.

  • Castle Crashers set at 1200MS Points

When potential prices leaked from the official Xbox Japan blog, gamers feared the possibility of paying over $20 for Castle Crashers on the XBLA. While Microsoft strongly denied the controversial pricing of both Braid and Castle Crashers the former ended up releasing for the leaked price of 1200MS Points. Today, Xbox owners waiting for the sky to cave in on them when Castle Crashers was officially priced are breathing a sigh of relief. On its official blog developer The Behemoth has confirmed that Castle Crashers will ask 1200MS Points when it releases on Wednesday, August 27 -- rather than the rumored 1800MS Points. Arguably the most anticipated Arcade release this summer, Castle Crashers promises a classic single player and co-op beat-em-up experience wrapped in The Behemoth's classic art style. We're excited and for 1200MS Points we think the game has the potential to set the XBLA world on fire.Note: Obviously, the time shown in the image of this post is off.[Thanks, Menno B.]

  • Castle Crashers dev: Price not yet decided

The Behemoth's Emil Ayoubkhan wanted to make it crystal clear that Castle Crashers will not be 1800 MS points ($22.50 US Earth dollars) when it releases Aug. 27, as indicated by the Japanese Xbox site. Ayoubkhan states that a price has not been decided on by Microsoft and that The Behemoth is working with the company to determine a "reasonable" price point, implying that the 1800 MS price point wouldn't be The Behemoth's choice. As we stated previously, $22.50 would make Castle Crashers the most expensive XBLA title ever -- beating Penny Arcade's record-setting $20 price tag. We'll allegedly get final word on Castle Crashers' price by, at the latest, Aug. 25.[Via X3F]

After yesterday's discovery and following denial of an 1800 MS Points price for Castle Crashers, The Behemoth's Emil Ayoubkhan has made an official comment on the Castle Crashers development blog. According to Ayoubkhan, not only is the 1800 point price incorrect, but the price itself hasn't even been decided. "Both The Behemoth and Microsoft are still working together to figure out a reasonable price point. (not 1800 points)," says Ayoubkhan. He adds that the final price of Castle Crashers will be set by Microsoft (in other words, if the price is high, it's Microsoft's fault). Whatever the price is, we should know for sure by August 25.

It might be a little too early to breathe a sigh of relief, but things could be looking up for Castle Crashers and Braid. Both were recently listed on the official Japanese Xbox 360 blog for the relatively high prices of 1800 ($22.50) and 1200 ($15.00) points respectively. According to Shacknews, Microsoft has denied these prices, noting that they are "incorrect for both domestic and international markets." Microsoft adds that the official prices will be revealed on the Mondays before Braid and Castle Crashers release dates, which are August 4 and 25 respectively. You can all put your torches and pitchforks away ... for now.

Guess who's back? Yes, you guessed correctly and on your first try, it's that adorable yellow alien from The Behemoth's Alien Hominid HD and we just learned that he'll be making an appearance in the August 27th release of Castle Crashers. As a playable character at that. Developer The Behemoth confirmed that the alien would be insta-unlocked as a playable character in Castle Crashers for those who already purchased the XBLA release of Alien Hominid HD, but can still be earned by those who don't own the game. Also, per The Behemoth's graphic above (which we totally ninja-stole), there will be a free Castle Crashers theme and gamer pictures come launch week. Big w00tz to that!

Sure, sure, we're all (devs included, more than likely) frustrated with the fact Castle Crashers hasn't yet seen some sort of final release date. But that doesn't mean we can't learn more about the game to help to pass the time. The latest feature revealed on the Castle Crashers dev blog fits right into the game's quirky art,and is known as Beefy Mode. Apparently activated by the awesomeness of peanut butter and jelly, Beefy Mode hulks-out your little character to steroid size and provides a power boost. In an effort to keep even more video from cluttering the front page the short gameplay clip is embedded after the break.

  • Castle Crashers Super Survey: Hit up X3F!

    06.24.2008

While it isn't strictly news about the game itself, the so called Castle Crashers Super Survey is being held by the guys over at The Behemoth and contains a whole host of different metrics on which they would like their audience's feedback. The questions cover everything from your favorite blogs (wink nudge) to your systems and your digital distribution purchasing habits.Of course there's really no way to know exactly what this survey is in regards to. But now that development on Castle Crashers has wrapped up, The Behemoth is probably looking towards its next project and could be using this data to help them figure out exactly what direction to head. It seems likely, given Dan Paladin's art style, that their work will continue on XBLA, but their games have seen retail release before and they could be looking to expand the range of services on which their content is available (they do mention Steam after all, and do ask whether or not your consoles are online).

Those Behemoth jerks just keep teasing us with more content for Castle Crashers. Earlier this week, we were treated to a new ninja character and now we discover that there is also a skeleton. We don't know much about him (or her) apart from the fact that he wields a bone firing bow as his long range weapon. Since we know so little, we'll have to make something up. His name -- we have decided -- is Skelly. Now, someone please tell us when we can buy this game.

Face it, everything is better with ninjas. It's like in that movie The Last Samurai when all the ninjas attacked. It was like, "Whoa, ninjas! This movie just got even awesomer!" Imagine that feeling, only applied to Castle Crashers. See, it feels awesome, righ?. The game was already cool and now it has a ninja and is even cooler (and by cool we mean totally sweet). If you thought it couldn't get any better than that, then get this: the ninja carries ... a mug. Not just any mug ... a Ninja Mug. We're not quite sure how it works, but according to the Castle Crashers website, its purpose is "defensive shielding."It's official now: the wait for Castle Crashers is killing us. Follow the source link for shots of ninja doing his thing.

Yes, we'll admit, we're a bit obsessively excited to play The Behemoth's Castle Crashers. And ever since we learned that development has wrapped we've been experiencing reserved excitement. Reserved only because our Castle Crashers wait has been full of delays, more development and more waiting which leaves us believing that there may be a chance that The Behemoth will announce that they've jumped back into development for some crazy reason, ultimately leading to a 2010 release. Scary thought, no? But we're pleased to reveal that there is absolutely no turning back with Castle Crashers' release, because we just learned that the game has been rated "T" (for teen) by the ESRB. This means we can now go from reserved excitement to full fledged, ecstatic, ADD filled excitement. We say, bring on the blood, gore, cartoon violence and crude humor! We're ready![Thanks, Jonah Falcon]
