'Game of Thrones' and Amazon's 'Mrs. Maisel' lead Emmy nominations
The Television Academy has revealed this year's Emmy nominations and to absolutely no one's surprise, Game of Thrones scooped up the most nods with 32, including Outstanding Drama Series and 10 nominees across various acting categories. The show with the second-highest tally of nominations is Amazon Prime Video's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with 20. It won several awards last year, including the top Outstanding Comedy Series prize. It's nominated again in that category.
Amazon renews ‘The Tick’ for a second season
Amazon decided to take on the quirky superhero spoof The Tick in 2016 despite the fact that the last live-action version of the comic was cancelled before it could complete a single season. But that risk seems to be paying off because Amazon has now greenlit a second season of the show even though the first season isn't yet finished.
Amazon’s ‘The Tick’ trailer keeps the comic’s oddball humor
It's been over two decades since the idiosyncratic comic The Tick was successfully adapted into three seasons of a Saturday morning cartoon, but its first live-action TV version a few years later was tragically cancelled after nine episodes. Amazon decided to give the idea another go by greenlighting a new take on The Tick last fall after its first trial episode survived the platform's viewer voting pilot period. The first trailer for the bizarre blue bug's new show dropped -- along with a release date, August 25th, when it will be available to Amazon Prime members.
Amazon picks up 'Lore' TV series
Though comic conventions might traditionally be the domain of superheroes and space epics, Amazon Studios used its New York Comic Con panel today to announce that Amazon Prime will be the home of the upcoming Lore TV series, based on the popular nonfiction podcast of the same name. Producer Gale Anne Hurd and program creator Aaron Mahnke were on hand to talk about the show, set to debut on Amazon Prime in early 2017.
Amazon resurrects 'The Tick,' greenlights two more shows
It's the time of year when Amazon's video division announces what new shows will make the cut and get a full series order. Today, we learned with great joy that The Tick is among Amazon's new shows, alongside I Love Dick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson. As in typical Amazon fashion, pilots for the shows were shown off in advance and fans could vote on the ones that would become full-fledged shows (they could even view a few pilots on Twitch this year). Now that the roster has been finalized, the shows are set to debut in 2017.
Amazon will stream show pilots on Twitch for 24 hours
Amazon is no stranger to showing you series pilots to gauge your interest, but it's trying a different strategy this year. The internet retailer will stream its version of The Tick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson on Twitch for 24 hours on August 31st, roughly two weeks after their Amazon premiere on August 19th. That may sound like an odd move when Amazon-owned Twitch is still primarily known for gaming, but it makes sense considering the service's broadening horizons. There are plenty of people watching content on Twitch besides games, and it could attract viewers who otherwise wouldn't bother to visit Amazon to watch.
