  • Palm offers up unlocked Treo 750 with Windows Mobile 6

If you loathe the carrier branding, or would just like to go gallivanting around the world with zero strings attached, Palm's now selling its co-flagship Treo 750 with Windows Mobile 6 direct and unlocked for $549. The GSM world phone can of course do the 3G thing in the US and Europe, so it's ideal the jet set type willing to deal with the Treo bulk, but other than the unlock it's the same old Treo, so we're sure you've already decided whether this one's right for you. The phone is available at Palm's online and retail stores. [Via MobileBurn]

  • Palm finally posts Windows Mobile 6 for AT&T's Treo 750

Some ten months after we first saw Treo 750s running Windows Mobile 6, AT&T and Palm have finally dropped an official upgrade today for the carrier's branded units. Turns out that Windows Mobile 6 is just the start with this little gem of an update, though -- you'll also get HSDPA support (yeah, that's right, you've been rocking plain ol' UMTS up until now), access to AT&T Cellular Video, functional Voice Command while using a Bluetooth headset, device charging via USB, and the list goes on. Head on over to Palm's site to kick off the download, and naturally, be sure to let us know how it goes.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]Update: Aaaand there we are with the problems. Fortunately, we're not (yet) hearing about bricked phones, just upset customers who are being blocked from downloading the updater, thanks to Palm's janky serial-checking tool. Way to go, Palm, we're sending air kisses your way. Thanks, Zack.Update 2: Palm says that the serial number issues that plagued some of the first few folks to try to grab the update have now been resolved, so if you haven't updated yet, have a go at it, will ya? Thanks, Paul!

  • AT&T Windows Mobile 6 update for Treo 750 still on track for this week?

The AT&T Windows Mobile 6 update for the Treo 750 was on track for release earlier this week -- or so we've heard -- but tumbled off the rails at the last second. Apparently some bugs were discovered and as a result everything was put on hold 'til the troubles were sorted. No word on what was broken -- and really, we don't care as long as it eventually does arrive -- but we're hopeful this could be ready for our poor ignored devices by Friday.[Thanks, anonymous tipster]

  • Palm and AT&T releasing Windows Mobile 6 update for Treo 750 today?

We've been all over the Windows "Nightmarishly slow" Mobile 6 updates for what seems an eternity only to see this poor device left in the lurch. Well, if rumor is correct -- and it can be from time to time -- Treonauts is reporting that unhappy Treo owners may be blessed with a Windows Mobile 6 update from AT&T as early as today. While we'd love to offer to see their rumor and raise them with an actual sighting, sadly we can't. Of course, feel free to pop back soon because we'll be updating if we hear anything more.[Via Treonauts]

  • Palm gets official with Treo 750's WM6 upgrade -- in Australia

The good news is that the official Windows Mobile 6 Professional update for the Treo 750 is just around the corner; the bad news, though, is that you probably can't have it yet unless you're lucky enough to live in one particular corner of the world. Following countless incognito shots of WM6-sporting 750s in the wild, an imminent official announcement was pretty much a foregone conclusion -- though we admittedly never suspected Australia would be the first to get the hookup. Specifically, customers of the Australian branch of Hutchison 3 will be able to download the update free of charge starting mid-month, with "other customers" following on in September. Whether "other customers" includes AT&T is unclear, but we're keeping our fingers tightly crossed.[Via istartedsomething]

  • AT&T Treo 750 gets Windows Mobile 6 treatment on the sly

Finally the Treo 750 gets its moment in the unofficial spotlight, viva la Windows Mobile 6 updates! Though, AT&T hasn't released it officially -- like the 8525 and the BlackJack -- if you like living life on the edge, all you need to do is head to xda-developers and scare up the ROM for a little do-it-yourself flashing action. As with other updates not yet officially sanctioned by AT&T, if something goes awry, you'll be out of luck for support. By our reckoning, the "Treo" of AT&T devices that were set to get updates now have dodgy versions floating around. So come now AT&T, where's the official love?[Thanks, Mark]

  • Palm releases Treo 750 alert sound bug fix

If you're a Treo 750 owner and have almost thrown your precious QWERTY-board out the window a few times due to missing alert sounds, take a deep breath. The fix for the Palm edition of the Treo 750 appears to address the issue of lost sound alerts that notify you of calls and other notifications. Yeah, we consider that a top-priority fix like you. The root cause was identified by Palm to be related to multiple hooks into the audio driver(s) of the device, causing it to stop completely. The update is detailed using the read link below if you need to restore that loss of sanity caused by a silent 750.[Via Pocket PC Thoughts]

  • Treo 750, BlackJack with Windows Mobile 6 in the wild

We'd reported this would happen, and, well... it happened. In Microsoft's booth at CTIA, anyway. It's anybody's guess exactly when it is end users will be able to drop Windows Mobile 6 on Treo 750s and Samsung BlackJacks of their very own, but we take it as a pretty solid sign that Microsoft is comfortable showing it off already.

No, we've no details on when, where, or how this might find its way to existing Treo owners, but it's an encouraging sign, is it not? Follow the break for a little more visual confirmation.

  • Treo 750 exclusivity with Vodafone expires; rest of Europe gets the love

OK -- now that Vodafone has let go of its ruthless grip on the Treo 750 exclusivity in Europe, the unit is not available in normal distribution channels throughout the continent as of Monday. The Treo 750 was set for Cingular here in the U.S. just about a month ago -- and it's on sale now with them. If you're no fan of ole' Voda and want to use the Windows Mobile-powered Treo 750 on any old GSM carrier over in Europe -- officially at least -- you're in luck now.

  • Apple iPhone sized up and compared to Treo 750, Moto Q, and BB Pearl

Thanks to the ever-convenient sizeasy.com, we've been able to get an idea of how big Apple's new iPhone is in comparison to other smartphones in a similar class to Apple's first cellular device. As you can see, it's pretty much in the middle of the pack: it's practically equally as thin as the Motorola Q, but ain't quite as high; it's nowhere near as thick as the Treo 750, but it is slightly wider and taller; and it bests the Pearl in terms of thinness, but loses out on width and height. Hopefully this gives you a better idea of how the iPhone sizes up against its competitors. Check out some more size comparisons from different angles after the break.

  • Cingular's Treo 750 announced, reviewed

Though the cover was blown, Palm fanatics everywhere still have reason to breathe a deep sigh of relief today as the Treo 750 has gone official for Cingular. The Windows Mobile Pocket PC handset is the first Palm device launched to leverage Cingular's 3G network -- and what's better, an upgrade to HSDPA is on the way. Specs include 128MB ROM / 64 MB RAM with miniSD expansion, Bluetooth (albeit 1.2), and that much-maligned square 240 x 240 display, all atop a 300MHz Samsung core. LAPTOP Magazine and Pocketnow both came away with similar impressions in their quick takes; Palm's latest entry isn't earth-shattering by any stretch of the imagination, but key enhancements to Windows Mobile 5's shortcomings (threaded messaging!) and 3G data should keep existing Treo users coming back for the upgrade. Look for the 750 in stores this week for $399 on a two-year contract, with online availability rolling in later this month.Read - Palm product pageRead - LAPTOP Magazine reviewRead - Pocketnow review

  • Treo 750 demo units in Cingular stores?

Looks like Palm's Windows Mobile powered Treo 750 might indeed hit this month like we heard. The Boy Genius snap above is of a reported demo unit said to be hitting "various Cingular stores" across The Nation over the weekend. Who knows, with the rumor-mill in a frenzy about a possible launch as early as today, things sure look promising for a stub-free, HSDPA holiday after all. Another shot 'round back after the break.

  • Palm delays US Treo 750 into oblivion

Clamoring to get your hands on a Treo 750 here in the States? Does the very thought of a HSDPA, stub antenna-free, Windows Mobile-equipped slice of Palm goodness leave you dizzy with desire? Well, get ready to wait. And wait. And, oh yeah, then wait a little more -- just until you get to the point where the by-then-dated phone is a distant memory in your mind and you couldn't possibly care less about its release (much to Palm's chagrin, undoubtedly). Despite repeated rumblings about the Treo 750's imminent release on Cingular, Palm has dropped the bomb today that the 750 is now targeted for a US debut in the third frickin' quarter of 2007 in a report detailing its revised guidance for Q2 of next year. The slip is allegedly due to a "delay in certification," suggesting that the FCC might be responsible for gumming up the works here -- but any way you slice it, this doesn't bode well for folks looking to get their high-end Palm on who don't have the benefit of Vodafone coverage. Maybe we can occupy ourselves with the 680 in the meantime?[Via PDA247]Update: False alarm! Apparently these newfangled "fiscal years," as they're known, are way ahead of the calendar we normally know and love. The third quarter of fiscal '07 starts next month, so we might see some 750 action before the year's out after all. [Thanks, Dayton]
