Who needs leakers when Samsung is outing its Unpacked lineup itself? Ahead of its flagship event tomorrow, the Korean tech giant has let slip another look at its AirPods-style wireless Galaxy Buds and Galaxy S10. If you thought it couldn't top its earlier leak on its Galaxy Watch app, this time the products were the stars of a full-blown ad aired by Norway's leading commercial TV channel.

We're mere days away from Samsung's next Unpacked event, so the Korean conglomerate is all but ready to dish the details on the Galaxy S10 smartphone family. Not that we're totally in the dark, of course. As is the case in the lead-up to all flagship smartphone launches, the rumor mill has been picking up pace over the past weeks and months, giving us more than a few hints on what to expect on February 20th. The new Galaxy S10 range will obviously be the headline act, but Samsung's foldable phone is certain to make an appearance, and perhaps there'll be a few surprises that've thus far avoided the leak treatment, too.

Samsung teases improved battery life for the Galaxy Note 9

Samsung is releasing a series of teasers leading up to its Galaxy Note 9 unpacked event on August 9th, and the first appears to confirm rumors that the new smartphone will have improved battery life. The idea with the teasers, said Samsung, is to show how painful it can be when technology lets you down, and that change, in the form of the Galaxy Note 9, will save the day.

And just like that, Samsung's Galaxy S9 has arrived. Today, at MWC 2018, the company introduced its new flagship handset with the slogan "The camera. Reimagined." While the bulk of improvements to the Galaxy S9, over the S8, are imaging-focused, there are also new features like AR Emojis -- Samsung's answer to Apple's Animojis. You can watch a recap of the Unpacked 2018 event here, where you'll also learn more about the updated DeX desktop experience, which now uses the S9 as a trackpad.

  • Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge+ can have apps pinned to its curve

The Galaxy S6 Edge+ is finally official, and with that comes tailor-made features for its curved design. One of those is Apps Edge, which lets users create up to five shortcuts for frequently used apps, offering quick access to them directly from the edge of the screen. It's worth noting that a Samsung patent for Apps Edge was spotted last month; a similar feature was also found on the Galaxy Note Edge, though the same can't be said for the newer Galaxy S6 Edge. At the moment, this appears to only be for the S6 Edge+, but we reached out to Samsung to find out if S6 Edge owners can expect to get it as well.

A new breed of live video apps like Meerkat and Periscope means just about anyone can become a streaming star overnight, but what about poor little YouTube? Well, it's sure got an ally in Samsung: The new Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ can both broadcast live video to Google's cat-video-sharing platform, no extra apps required. The beauty of the formula lies in its simplicity: All you have to do is fire up the stock camera app, hit the "Live Broadcast" button and sign into YouTube.

Samsung is gearing up to show us... well, we don't know exactly what yet. However, if rumors and leaks hold true, there could be announcements for at least two new smartphones: the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. If anything, Samsung's invite to today's Unpacked event hints at something big and curvy, which could apply to both of the aforementioned devices. Perhaps there will be a wearable too, what with the company recently confirming the existence of a Gear smartwatch that features a rotating bezel. Whatever it may be, you can watch the keynote as it happens in the video below -- but don't forget we're also liveblogging it from New York City. The action starts at 11AM ET.

  • Samsung event teaser hints that 'what's next' is a curvy Galaxy

Samsung's pre-announcement clues are sometimes cryptic at best, but it's not being especially subtle this time around. Hours after Tinhte first revealed that something was up, Samsung has posted a "what's next" teaser for a March 1st Galaxy Unpacked event in Barcelona whose centerpiece is the shadowy profile of a curvy-looking device. While it's not perfectly clear what this image represents, it bears an uncanny resemblance to the right-hand side of the Galaxy Note Edge, where the smartphone's signature curved display tapers off. Seeing as how Samsung isn't about to re-unveil a phone, our money's on the teaser alluding to a Galaxy S6 with an Edge-like screen, whether it's optional (as SamMobile rumored earlier) or standard issue. Whatever shows up, it's pretty obvious that March 1st is going to be a very busy day in the Android world -- we'll be sure to attend those events and let you know what Samsung, HTC and others have to offer.

  • Samsung partners with Montblanc on a chic Galaxy Note 4 stylus

At IFA 2014 Unpacked, Samsung has announced that it's partnering with venerable pen maker Montblanc on two custom styluses for its new Galaxy Note 4. The "Pix" and the "e-StarWalker" are done in the pen maker's classic, chunky style for any Note smartphone or tablet user. Montblanc calls it a "digital writing" device, a clear sign it's targeting those for whom a flimsy plastic pen just won't do. It also revealed two flip covers for the Note 4, the "Extreme" in a threaded fabric that mirrors Samsung's Galaxy S5 "Band-Aid" design, and the "Soft Grain" with a classic leather look. There's no word yet on availability or cost, but we don't imagine that a digital writing device comes cheap.

Samsung may have already announced a smartwatch that can make phone calls (and also one covered in Swarovski crystals), but that doesn't mean it's showing up to IFA empty-handed. The company is holding its annual "Unpacked" press event today, where it'll almost certainly unveil a new Galaxy Note phone, like it has every year since 2011. Who knows? We may also see that forthcoming virtual reality headset we've been reading so much about. Something tells us, though, that you won't be seeing another Samsung smartwatch so soon. We don't think so, anyway.

Each week Ross Rubin contributes Switched On, a column about consumer technology. In the heyday of Palm organizers, when even the speeds of 3G data seemed like a distant fantasy, a debate raged as to whether the future of pocket devices could belong to one or two devices. Those who favored two devices argued that you didn't really want all the bulk and battery consumption of a pocket computer in a small device that you wanted to use primarily to make calls. They failed to anticipate that technology's relentless integration would enable these "pocket computers" to become the minimal-millimeter smartphones of today and that data networks would support access to apps ranging from social networking to mobile video that would trump voice for many users.

  • Samsung has sold more than 200 million Galaxy S smartphones

Want to know how big a player Samsung is in the smartphone market? The company now says that it's sold over 200 million Galaxy S phones since the line first went on the market in 2010. For reference, the Korean tech giant had notched up sales of 100 million Galaxy S devices as of slightly more than a year ago. Samsung isn't breaking down the sales by model, although it had sold over 40 million Galaxy S 4s as of last fall -- much of that 200 million clearly came from more recent customers. It's difficult to compare the data against other manufacturers, since few of them break out sales by range. Apple, for example, said that it shipped 700 million iOS devices of all kinds as of October. However, it's safe to say that Samsung remains a heavyweight at the high end of the smartphone market.

In the midst of its numerous Unpacked Episode 2 unveilings, Samsung's just given us a peek at a new piece of the Galaxy Note 3 puzzle: My Magazine. At a glance, it looks like a mashup between Flipboard's curated magazine app and HTC's Blinkfeed-infused homescreen. That's not surprising given Samsung's recent collaboration with Flipboard, and there are similarities with that app, like different panels for news feeds and deep social integration. Judging from the rows and rows of Samsung flag lining the outside the Messe Berlin, the company's planning another big show for this year's IFA. This time last year, the company took the wraps off of its industry-shaping Galaxy Note, and if all goes according to plan, there's seems a fairly significant chance that 2012 will see a sequel. And, knowing Samsung, that's not all we're in store for today. Hold on tight and join us after the break. August 29, 2012 1:00 PM EDT
