WWE Network 2.0: How WWE rebuilt its streaming service after a split with Disney Chris Welch, The Verge After a flashy reveal at CES a few years ago, the WWE Network is by all accounts a success, amassing well over a million subscribers by early 2019. Disney threw a wrench in the plans when it bought BAMTech, the company that had successfully constructed streaming services for the likes of Major League Baseball and HBO Now. It was also what WWE relied on for its 24/7 buffet of choke slams and live events. WWE saw the writing on the wall, and rebuilt its streaming library from the ground up.

  • WWE Network bodyslams onto UK Apple TVs

Streaming Wrestlemania matches just got a little easier in the UK, now that the WWE's standalone streaming service is available on Apple TV. WWE Network was supposed to arrive on the set-top box last November, but those plans were shelved after the service missed its initial release date (it eventually launched in January). Well, support is better late than never. With the Apple TV channel, you can watch pay-per-view events live or catch up with 3,000 hours of on-demand video, should you happen to miss your favourite star in the ring. A subscription costs £9.99 per month (or €12.99 in Ireland) but if you're a lapsed fan or just curious to see what an RKO looks like, it's free this month for new subscribers.

  • WWE Network's UK launch set for January 19th, for real this time

In a couple of weeks, wrestling fans in the UK should finally have access to the WWE's standalone streaming service. It's been an awfully long wait: the WWE Network has been available in 170 countries for a number of months, and a UK launch was abandoned at the eleventh hour in November. Exactly why it was cancelled is still unclear, although negotiations over TV rights were reportedly to blame. Now, everything appears to have been cleared up, and the service is set to enter the ring on January 19th. "This time we really mean it," WWE CEO Vince McMahon has vowed. Watching endless choke-slams will set you back £9.99 per month, or €12.99 in Ireland, and the service should be available on a ton of different platforms including iOS, Android, the Web, gaming consoles and smart TVs. We're staying a little skeptical about this one -- given the problems that have plagued its UK launch so far, we wouldn't be surprised if the WWE Network was hit by another RKO.

While wrestling fans in 170 countries have been able to enjoy WWE's standalone streaming service for a number of months, UK addicts have been waiting to be tagged in. The launch of the WWE Network was reportedly delayed due to discussions over TV rights, but those issues have presumably been settled, allowing Brits to get in on the action from 8pm tonight. Users will be able to stream on the web, iOS and Android for free this month, with support for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Xbox One and Xbox 360 arriving on November 18th. Once the trial is up, you'll be charged $9.99 (£6.25) per month -- the same amount as US members, suggesting the company will let your bank work out what you pay using the current exchange rate.

  • WWE Network heading to 170 new countries next month

Fans of professional wrestling seem to be enjoying WWE's new online network. The company announced during its most recent earnings report that it has 700,000 subscribers to date, which is a pretty great sum given the service's mere five-month existence, a relatively young history. But WWE doesn't want to stop there, and it plans to keep expanding its digital channel to more places. To do just that, WWE Network will be arriving in 170 new countries next month, on August 12th, including Australia, Hong Kong, Mexico, Singapore, Spain and the Nordic region. In addition to those, WWE revealed its video service is also headed to China, Germany, Japan, India, Italy, Malaysia, Thailand and UAE, but that further details about this won't be shared until later on. So, are you one of the subs? Let us know in the comments below, or feel free to hit up our forums and spark up a conversation about the WWE Network.

Following an initial launch that saw the WWE Network's debut on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360, the streaming video app has now made its way to the Xbox One. The WWE Network app, which offers users access to pay per view events, weekly programming and the WWE's extensive vault of pro wrestling footage, requires an Xbox Live Gold subscription and that users subscribe to the WWE Network itself. The latter subscription costs $10 per month, though new users are required to make a six-month commitment to the service. [Image: WWE]

Rounding out this week's PS3 additions is Magus and Pac-Man Museum, the latter being a $20 pack of games spanning the yellow gobbler's series. Vita owners only get one new game this week: Mahjong 2 World Contest, as well as PSOne Classic Herc's Adventures, also available on PS3 and PSP. Though Vita owners can now download the Crackle app to watch movies and TV shows, the marquee media streaming addition this week is the WWE Network app on PS3 and PS4. [Image: Square Enix]

The WWE Network app is now available on PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360. Announced in January, the subscription-based service gives viewers access to over a thousand hours of wrestling on-demand video content spanning the WWE's lengthy history, including archived WCW and ECW events. Subscribers also gain access to future WWE programming, including all 12 of the brand's monthly pay-per-view events such as SummerSlam and WrestleMania. In addition to the home consoles, the app also launched on iOS, Android, Kindle Fire and Roku today. Those looking to spring for the $9.99 per month subscription to watch the Attitude Era all over again will need to commit to six months with the service at minimum. Xbox 360 owners are also required to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription to use the WWE Network app. Xbox One owners will gain access to the app this summer alongside other devices. The app was developed in partnership with Major League Baseball Advanced Media, the professional baseball league's creator of the MLB.TV service and the upcoming return of the RBI Baseball series. Keen on reliving the Tommy Dreamer and Raven feud from ECW in its entirety? Fancy looking back at the war for Monday night between Raw and Nitro? Enter: WWE Network, the WWE's subscription-based network for the US full of original programming and archived WWE, WCW and ECW pay-per-view events. WWE Network will cost $10 a month when it launches next month, with apps planned for both PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Streaming will be in 720p and a subscription will guarantee you access to WWE's monthly pay-per-view events. Wrestlemania Rewind, part of the planned original programming to supplement the older matches, will offer wrestler commentary over famous matches of yesteryear, while Countdown will be an hour-long program ranking top finishers, submissions and other sweet wrasslin' moves. WWE Network will be available in the US on PC, PlayStation consoles, iOS, Android, Kindle, Xbox 360 and Roku at launch, after Monday Night Raw on February 24th. Xbox One and smart TV support will be added later this summer, and WWE says it has plans to extend WWE Network to other regions by the end of the year.
