If you were planning to buy an iPhone at one of the three New York Apple Stores, then you might be out of luck. According to The Huffington Post, the SoHo, 59th Street (5th Avenue Store), and new W 14th Street locations are all sold out of this hot little phone. At the 59th Street store, an Apple employee was quoted saying, "You can always go online." So, if you are looking for an iPhone in NY, you might be left only two options: AT&T stores, or Apple's online store.Update: the online US Apple Store is showing "5-7 days" shipping time for both the 8 and 16 GB models.

We got a chance to preview the new Manhattan Apple Store this morning before the official unveiling tomorrow at 6PM. The store is nicely situated on W. 14th St. and 9th Ave., and while Apple did its best to blend into the existing early 20th century architecture, it's still a hard one to miss. The store itself is lacking the glass elevator of its 5th Ave. counterpart, but makes up for it with an epic three story glass staircase. It's the second-largest Apple Store in the US, with a full floor dedicated to service -- the genius bar can handle about 30 customers per hour. There are 175 employees total, and the store will be open until midnight every day of the week. We asked Ron Johnson, Apple's Senior VP of Retail, about how the growth of Apple into kiosks at other retail establishments such as Best Buy is impacting Apple Retail, and he responded that there's "plenty of room" for both, since Apple just had its best quarter ever in Mac sales and at Apple Stores simultaneously. He did say the ratio of new stores is going to move a bit more in the international direction, since there's a lot of room to grow there. We also asked about Genius Bar wait times, and he assured us that it's something Apple monitors constantly and continues to add staff to address.%Gallery-11432%

  • Apple Store 14th Street opening time confirmed

Are you ready to shop and roll? As we reported last week, the 14th Street ("Meatpacking") Apple Store in NYC is due to open this Friday, and official Apple e-vites went out earlier today. New York City's fourth Apple retail outlet (three in Manhattan, one on Staten Island -- no love for Brooklyn, Apple? What's up with that?) will be opening to the public at 6 pm on Friday 12/7. The store will be open 9 am to midnight Mon-Sat and 9-7pm on Sundays. As was noted last week, the subway icons above are a bit misleading, as none of those lines actually gets you especially close to the store -- the 1 stops at 14th Street and 7th Avenue, but then it's a long walk into a stiff Hudson River wind to get to 9th Ave. and the store location. The closest subway is actually the E train (or A/C/L... heh heh), at 14th and 8th Ave. Be sure to send us your pictures and impressions if you head over for the opening! Thanks Rich, Brian and everyone else who sent this in
