Good ol' Wally isn't a stranger when it comes to offering prepaid wireless goods within its shops, and now the retail giant's about to add yet another service to that carrier-packed inventory. Starting next month, US Cellular -- in partnership with Alltel Wireless -- will begin rolling out a new contract-free package dubbed "U Prepaid," which, naturally, is set to be backed by both of the aforementioned carrier's networks. The fresh U Prepaid deal will be making its way into "nearly" 500 Walmart stores across 18 US states, though there's no mention of which ones specifically. That being said, US Cellular and Alltel did announce the four devices coming at launch, including Samsung's Repp and Chrone along with the LG Attune / Exchange and Saber. In any case, now you know where to go if those recently announced plans from AT&T and Verizon aren't keeping a smile on your face.

Surfing Facebook for Kin info? That's so last year. The cool kids are members of the "upload generation" -- meaning they wait at gdgt for Microsoft employees to upload the specs. This week, social marketing director John Starkweather did just that, and now we know that both Kin One and Kin Two will sport a 600MHz processor and EV-DO Rev. A when they come to market in May, as well as light and proximity sensors. Bluetooth remote and headset profiles are to be had alongside Microsoft Exchange, and there's support for H.264, MPEG-4 and WMV video files. Last and assuredly least, the phones aren't technically Verizon-exclusive in the US; the last remaining customers of Alltel will also get their chance to show off tragic, angst-filled lives.

The long, agonizing wait for Alltel to come clean with this gem is over. Starting today, subscribers can phone up the carrier with questions about the Touch Diamond and receive a response other than "Whatcha talkin' 'bout Willis?" 'Course, it's no shock whatsoever to see this Windows Mobile 6.1-based handset surface on the soon-to-be-Verizon's network, but those who've been waiting patiently will be utterly stoked to know that you can now plop down $249.99 (after all rebates and a 2-year agreement) in order to take one home.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

A batch of new Samsung handsets is apparently headed to Alltel soon. Specifically, the Sammy SCH-R500 and the SCH-R200 should be on their way to Alltel shelves (and on Alltel's site) for your viewing and purchasing pleasure. While the R200 is a relatively plain (but slim) candybar, you'll be hooked on it if you liked the Samsung Wafer (the R200 is very similar in size). Size aside, the R200 drops several features from the Wafer to make the cut to its entry-level status. Meanwhile, the 1.3 megapixel, EV-DO R500 clamshell reminds us of the Samsung SPH-M500 from Sprint (at least in features), but does have stereo speakers inside that fold. No word just yet on release dates.

We were just a little giddy when we heard that Alltel would be releasing the LG AX8600 (aka VX8600 for Verizon folks, aka "Chocolate flip") in several popsicle-like colors a few weeks back, and as of now, these beauties are ready to go from Alltel. Alltel's site still lists the puppies as "pre-order", but we hear that they're in Alltel retail stores ready to go home with any customer that's looking for some 1.3 megapixel, touch sensitive, music-ready clamshell love. Drop us a comment if you've seen the new AX8600 in your local Alltel store -- it seems rare to see stores beat their own company website with product availability, but it does happen.[via phoneArena]
