Field tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, The Boy Genius.Yeah, they're just renderings, but they sure do look believable, don't they? Or maybe we just want to believe -- we can't really tell any more -- but for what it's worth, we're allegedly looking at a pair of future Sidekicks destined for Danger's favorite carrier, T-Mobile. Details are slim, but the Sidekick Slide seems to be the Motorola-sourced device we've been hearing about, considering the big, fat "M" logo to the left of the display. The one on the left is a little more mysterious considering that it's merely labeled "Sidekick," but it seems a likely candidate to succeed the 3. Whether either one of these is the oft-rumored "Zante" is unclear, but either way, it seems Danger's got its plate full for the next few months!

We love when rogue software installations and EXIF information end up giving away upcoming and unreleased wireless handset models. The latest entry: a photo on Flickr that showed off its EXIF data as having been taken by a "Danger Zante." Now, as far as we know, the "Zante" may be a codename for an upcoming Hiptop model -- possibly the Sidekick X from T-Mobile. But alas, the images were pulled from Flickr so no more closeup examination. If anyone has deets on what the Zante is all about, drop us a line.[Thanks, Aaron L.]

  • Motorola working with Danger on "Sidekick X"?

Now that we know that Danger and T-Mobile's upcoming low cost Hiptop device will be called the "Sidekick ID," lettered suffixes on the Sidekick brand seem plausible enough -- as in "Sidekick X." This screen shot was supposedly somehow captured at a T-Mobile conference detailing a so-named multimedia-friendly device manufactured by Motorola and sporting some RAZR co-branding, indicating that it would probably retain some of the RAZR's trademark looks (read: thin, sleek, metal). Frankly, we think the whole sitch is pretty believable; after all, no one said Sharp would be the only company manufacturing devices on Danger's platform, and customers have been crying for a more "adult, professional" rendition of the Sidekick pretty much since day one. We'll keep a close eye on this one and try to debunk it or validate it just as soon as we can.[Thanks, Ed]
