It was only a matter of time before someone released a speaker system with an iPad dock, but there is more to Speakercraft's new lineup than a way to listen to music. The FloBox, its miniature version, and the Vital amp can also stream music via Apple's AirPlay, DLNA or Speakercraft's own Nirv system. The two FloBoxes also include a mini USB port to sync your i-device with iTunes. The Vital 250 is only available in black and will sell for $699 when it hits in the forth quarter. The two FloBoxes will be available in a black, white, silver, red or yellow high-gloss, piano finish with no word on price, but are also expected in a few months.

The company that invented in-wall speakers wants to make sure your sound system in your backyard looks and sounds as good as the one in your house. The BoomTomb subwoofer with integrated 250 watt amp gets buried in the ground with only the port exposed -- and hopefully somewhere it isn't likely to be tripped over -- where it can accompany your Ruckus speakers that look like rocks. It'll start shipping in the fourth quarter for a yet unannounced price, which means you might have to wait until the spring for the ground to thaw for those in the colder parts of the northern hemisphere.

Last year's surreal SpeakerCraft booth at CEDIA definitely got people talking, but this year we're hoping that a new line of products from the company is what will be getting all the buzz. Press releases from Fluffy Spider Technologies and SpeakerCraft suggest that the conference will see the debut of SpeakerCraft media center products that use Fluffy Spider's FancyPants software for a UI with all the eye candy our 21st century selves demand. Sounds like a good match to us -- SpeakerCraft definitely has whole-home presence, and the development of a uniform control UI that's actually a pleasure to use is a definite "must have" feature. Both companies are keeping things pretty mum, however, so we'll have to wait to see what's brewing.Read - SpeakerCraft media center products coming to CEDIA Read - SpeakerCraft teams with FST Fancy Pants

  • Solar-powered 'guiltless green' home theater system makes your Wall-E Blu-ray very happy

When Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA) executive director Richard Glikes wanted a home theater system, he didn't just max it out with the best high definition equipment. He also thought to run it entirely from solar energy from four roof-mounted panels that produce an aggregate of 700 watts per hour in sunlight. It'll reportedly run things for 19 hours straight without having to dip into your traditional power grid. Hardware-wise, we're talking about a 100-inch screen, Sharp projector, six SpeakerCraft in-wall speakers, Integra AV receiver, Lutron lighting, and a universal remote. See how it was made, with the help of time-lapse photography and 1980s infomercial-genre background music, in the video after the break.

In-wall drivers are nice, sure, but what if you're not really looking to butcher your wall just to get some sound up there? Enter SpeakerCraft's Sound Pillows, a rather brilliantly designed speaker that can be installed in standard drywall via a "dog frame" or into a junction box if desired. Rather than having to wire things permanently, the Pillows simply snap into the wall plate where it's secured with two push-in tabs. Obviously, this approach also keeps your options open for swapping speakers out or taking them with you when you relocate. Mum's the word on pricing, but you can probably get a good idea by contacting your local dealer.

The speaker-in-a-rock was hot stuff back in the day, but now, it's pretty played out. SpeakerCraft has applied its jungle influences to the OG outdoor speaker, which is modeled after an exterior landscape lighting fixture and can be hidden away in flower beds, under bushes or in between statues of Tiki Men. The unit itself includes a 3-inch full-range aluminum cone driver, but it seems as if you'll need to phone up your nearest SpeakerCraft dealer for pricing information. Full release after the break.

  • SpeakerCraft CEDIA 2008 booth tour: it's a jungle in there

There's zero doubt that SpeakerCraft paid good money for a hot spot on the CEDIA floor to showcase its wares, and there's also no denying that it had the zaniest booth at the entire Expo. From a dozen yards out, you could feel the bass pumping, you could sense the ground moving, and you could see the mass of people gathered at the SpeakerCraft installation. Upon heading over, we realized that it had brought along the jungle (and even its inhabitants), and we found all sorts of drivers hung up in trees and underneath canopies. Put simply, it was just too bizarre to not pass along, so here you go. %Gallery-31294%
