Onkyo updates HT-S9100THX HTIB system
Onkyo's HT-S9100THX has been around the block a time or two already, but for those who've yet to pick up the crowd-pleasing set, you're in luck. Said outfit has just released a revamped version of the kit which includes a 7.1-channel AV receiver "designed to conform to THX's demanding Integrated System Plus certification protocols." Additionally, the system now supports THX Loudness Plus technology and includes four HDMI 1.3a inputs for Deep Color compatibility. You'll also find a Faroudja DCDi video upscaling chip, Audyssey 2EQ / Dynamic EQ and support for Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio. As for drivers, you'll get seven two-way speakers (one center, four surrounds, two fronts) along with a self-powered (290-watt) 12-inch subwoofer. The HTIB should be filtering out to shops now for $1,099 (MSRP).[Via Marketnews]
Cary Audio Designs ships award-winning Cinema 11v video scaler
Cary Audio Design's Cinema 11v video processor was shown off at last year's CEDIA, but it's finally getting its debut party at CEDIA 2008 next week. Don't think the unit hasn't been busy, though -- in the interim, it's been doing some kind of sci-fi time travel shenanigans and picked up a "2008 Product of the Year" award. Leaving aside the issue of general availability, we thought there were plenty of days left in the year. The Faroudja DCDi-powered unit promises to be the "highest-performing video scaler/switcher/processor available," which we think the folks at Silicon Optix might take issue with. The Cinema 11v certainly looks a treat (in a simple way), and sports six HDMI 1.3 inputs and a pair of outputs that can pump out a 120-Hz, 1080p signal sourced from composite, component, RGB or HDMI inputs. Integra's DTR-6.9 AV receiver carries THX Select2 Plus badge, $1k price
Besting its DTR-5.9 sibling, the new DTR-6.9 AV receiver from Integra has earned itself the THX Select2 Plus certification. In fact, it's the first Integra model to meet that spec, which among other things means that the DTR-6.9 packs THX Loudness Plus wizardry for those of us who value our hearing and don't listen at reference levels all the time. As you'd expect from the Onkyo roots, the feature set is solid: 7x100-Watts, four HDMI 1.3a inputs, Faroudja scaling, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA and Audyssey MultiEQ. And because it's an Integra, you also know that custom installers get some niceties as well: multizone audio that can tap into a pair of the 7-channel amplifier section, 12-volt triggers and remote control via ethernet, RS-232 and HDMI. Onkyo launches TX-SR806 / TX-SR706 receivers, HT-S7100 / HT-S6100 HTIB systems
Check it, Onkyo fans -- your main outfit has just revealed two new AV receivers and a pair of HTIB systems, so we're going to get right down to it. Both the $1,099 TX-SR806 (pictured) and $899 TX-SR706 receivers are THX certified and include Faroudja DCDi video processing capabilities, Audyssey room acoustics correction and Dynamic EQ, and Onkyo's Music Optimizer. You'll also find at least four HDMI 1.3a ports and 1080p upscaling. Moving on, we've got the $899 HT-S7100 and $799 HT-S6100 HTIB systems, each of which include a receiver, seven-channel loudspeaker system, a powered subbie and an obligatory iPod dock. LaCie 324 24-inch 10 bit LCD for the pros
While we've seen plenty of pixels so far this year, most are aimed at the consumer's living room or the gamer's desktop. LaCie's taking the snobbish route with its 324 LCD Monitor, however. The 1080p 16:10 display supports 92 percent NTSC gamut, 10-bit gamma correction and embedded Faroudja DCDi and TrueLife tech. Plugs include VGA, DVI and dual HDMI, with HDCP support for kicking back with some HD movies after a long day at the office. There are also three USB 2.0 ports and a headphone jack, and LaCie is tossing in the blue eye pro for automatic hardware color correction. The display should arrive in January for $1050.
Rotel intros RSP-1069 processor/preamp
High-end stalwart Rotel is taking the wraps off its new RSP-1069 HT processor/preamp at CEDIA this week. This is an update to, you guessed it, the RSP-1068 model. The simple front panel hides some nice HT goodies inside. Decoding functions are handled by the TI Aureus DSP (not to be confused with Aurea), but conspicuously absent form the press release is mention of Dolby True HD or DTS-HD. Digital and analog video sources are upsampled by Faroudja DCDi, up to 1080p. Four HDMI inputs and three component inputs are around back to keep your video flowing. And since this is a CEDIA debut, you know Rotel didn't skimp on the automation and "whole home" angles. Three 12V triggers and a RS-232 serial connection are available for custom installers, and there are three additional zones of stereo+video so you can be entertained throughout the homestead. CMO's 42-inch 1080p LCD: $1,665 now in Europe, Q2 US
Look out Westinghouse and Vizio, Taiwan's Chi Mei has a new 42-inch, 1080p LCD TV looking for market share at the low-to-mid end of the big panel LCD spectrum. Shipping now in Taiwan and Europe, model DTL-742E500 is expected to make its US premier sometime in Q2 -- about the time we expect their 47-inch Quad HD LCD to ship. Their new set swaddles a Faroudja DCDi scaler and Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) panel with a 1200:1 contrast ratio, 500cd/m2 brightness, 176-degree viewing angle, 6.5-ms response, and 2x HDMI inputs among a healthy collection of in and outs.
