  • STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT - MAY 7: Chance the Rapper and elementary school teacher Luciana Lira, 42, speak via Instagram Live during the artist's Twilight Awards event honoring teachers on May 7, 2020 in Stamford, Connecticut. He announced Lira would receive $15,000 for herself, $15,000 for her school and a computer and a year of internet for the immigrant family that Lira is helping. Lira, a K-5 Bilingual /ESL teacher at Hart Magnet Elementary in Stamford, became the temporary guardian of newborn baby Neysel after the boy's mother Zully, almost 8 months pregnant, went to the Stamford Hospital emergency room, gravely ill with COVID-19 and gave birth. Hospital staff put Zully on a ventilator and performed an emergency C-section to save the child. Neysel could not go home, as his father Marvin and brother Junior were COVID-19 positive and quarantined there. After several weeks in the hospital ICU Zully responded well to antibody blood plasma transfusions and was able to return home. The teacher Lira will continue caring for the baby until the infant's parents and brother test COVID-negative, and the Guatemalan immigrant family can be reunited. Instagram can turn question stickers into live Q&As

Instagram's question stickers have at least one main problem: you have to be patient while awaiting the answer. Now, however, you might just get some instant gratification. The social network is introducing an option to respond to a question in a Story by going live. This could be most helpful for creatives who want to start an impromptu Q&A (say, a beauty blogger offering makeup tips), but it should also be handy for answering deep questions or anything else where a Story would be too short. Broadcasters can share photos and videos from their camera roll, too.

It's easy to start a live Instagram video, but how do your friends know you're broadcasting if they don't catch the usual alert? As of now, you can ping them yourself. Instagram has added the option to send live videos as direct messages, so you can ensure pals tune in when you're livestreaming your vacation. You can also send a video as a viewer if there's a must-see stream. This only works while videos are live, we'd note, so recipients will have to check replays like everyone else.

That didn't take too long. After several weeks of testing, Instagram has given all mobile users the option to add a guest to their live broadcast. Tap an icon and you can invite one of your viewers to participate, splitting the view in two. You can swap guests at any time, and these group videos can either disappear right away or live a while longer as Stories in your friends' feeds. Friends can tell that it's a two-person stream with a quick glance at the Stories bar.

The face filters that Instagram swiped from Snapchat are now available on Instagram Live. Starting today, you can add filters before your Live feed airs or during with options that include various crowns and animal ears as well as pilot getup and and nerd glasses. Also, for the next week, a sunglasses filter will be available only through live video and it allows users to tap on the glasses to change what scenery is reflected off of them.

Livestreaming is becoming a major part of social networks -- Instagram, Twitter (via Periscope) and Facebook have all been pushing it in our faces for a while now. They all work the same, more or less, but Instagram is adding an intriguing new feature to the mix. Today, the company announced that some users will be able to add a "guest" to their live broadcasts, essentially adding a second contributor to the livestream. This lets users have a live conversation with a friend and broadcast both sides of that chat to your followers.

Late last year, Instagram introduced the ability to broadcast live video; simply swipe over to "Live" mode in the Stories camera, tap the button and stream away. But unlike Periscope and Facebook Live, those live videos couldn't be replayed after you're done streaming, which means that your audience needed to be tuning in at the right time to catch the broadcast. Thanks to a new Instagram feature, however, you can finally share the replay of your live video once you're done.

Since it announced a live streaming feature in November, Instagram has slowly been rolling out the service to its users in various parts of the world. Over the coming week, though, Instagrammers around the globe can begin to use the feature. So get ready to see streams from far-off places such as, oh, I don't know, Singapore.

Just a few weeks after Instagram announced that it's adding live video broadcasting to the app, the feature is now, well, live. To start broadcasting, just head over to your Stories camera and swipe over to "Live" mode. Viewers will know you're live with the "live" badge over your Story icon. From what we can tell, the interface is very similar to that of Periscope and Facebook Live. You can leave comments and tap the Heart button to send floating hearts into view.

  • Instagram is testing Live videos

A Russian publication has spotted an experimental Instagram feature it obviously got its from parent corporation's repertoire: live videos. One of T Journal's readers sent in screenshots and a video of a curious icon lined up with Instagram Stories on top that's clearly marked "Live." It led to a "popular live broadcasts" page, but it refused to load -- not surprising since the company hasn't even officially announced the feature yet. T Journal also posted a screenshot of the app's camera screen that says "Go Insta!" at the bottom, which we're assuming starts a live broadcast.
