Less than a month after Apple released its AirPods Pro, they're on sale for $235 on Amazon. That $14 savings is a little surprising. It's unusual to see these things go on sale so soon, and it might irk some of the folks who bought them at full price a couple weeks ago.

Apple's AirPods with the wireless charging case are $30 off on Amazon. That puts them at $170, the lowest price we've seen all year and a deal that doesn't come around often. Apple's AirPods have consistently reviewed well, and by some accounts, they're the most popular true-wireless earbuds in the world. The wireless charging case is a newer addition and a welcomed convenience.

Verizon (Engadget's parent company) is shaking up its offerings. Today, it introduced four new unlimited plans -- Start, Play More, Do More and Get More -- which will replace the three current unlimited plans. Surprisingly, each new plan is $5 less expensive than its previous equivalent, and for a limited time, Verizon is waiving the $10-per-month 5G fee for the three top-tier options.

When Microsoft introduced the Surface Book 2 in 2017, it added a 15-inch screen option. While that gave the Macbook Pro some serious competition, it still started at $2,499. Now, Microsoft is offering a 15-inch Surface Book 2 configuration for $1,999 -- a full $500 less than the previous entry point. As you'd expect, the price cut does come with a few trade offs.

Apple's iMac updates weren't the only changes the company made today. With less fanfare, it also lowered the cost of SSD upgrades for the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini. It lowered the cost to upgrade the 2013 Mac Pro RAM, too. These changes were first spotted by MacRumors. While they make the priciest SSD upgrades less expensive, the more reasonable upgrades -- the ones most people might actually buy -- haven't changed.

  • Xbox One's official UK price falls to £300

Plenty of UK retailers are already selling the Xbox One for under £300, but now Microsoft is making this markedly lower price-tag official. Effective immediately, the console will be available from £299.99, or £30 less than before. A spokesperson for Microsoft told Eurogamer that it's a "UK-only retail promotion," which suggests the reduction could only be temporary. However, given how Microsoft handled a similar price-drop in the US, we suspect this'll be a permanent discount before too long, if it's not one already. By making this the official price, Microsoft is also encouraging retailers to drop the cost of their bundles even further. The console has few exclusives prepped for the first half of 2015 (Halo 5: Guardians and Rise of the Tomb Raider will change that this autumn) but if you've been mulling a purchase anyway, now might be a good time to take the plunge.

  • Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes gets permanent price cut

Konami announced a permanent price drop for Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes this week, cutting the game's cost down to $19.99 on all platforms. Ground Zeroes is now priced at £19.99 and €19.99 in Europe as well. The game will reach Steam on December 18. Acting as a prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and also set after the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes took players through a rescue mission as series hero Snake. Ground Zeroes launched in March for $30, and according to our review was "also 30 bucks for one hell of a cliffhanger" as the game wound up "teasing more than it satisfies." The next proper entry in the series, Metal Gear Solid 5, will launch in 2015. [Image: Konami]

  • Xbox One trims $50 for the holidays

The price of the Xbox One will drop by $50 for a limited time in the United States starting November 2, Microsoft announced. The stand-alone system will cost $350 until January 3, 2015 at participating retailers, which will include Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Microsoft's stores, Target, Toys R Us and Walmart. The holiday savings applies to all versions of the console, so those in the market for one of Microsoft's Xbox One bundles will also save $50 during the two-month period. That includes the Assassin's Creed Unity bundle, available before Unity launches over a week later, will cost $350 for the standard version that also includes Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and $450 for the version with both games and Kinect. The temporary price cut follows a much more permanent one the UK received in September. [Image: Microsoft]

The Xbox One is now £329.99 in the UK, a 20 squid drop from the console's previously suggested price of £349.99. Oh, I'm sorry, quid? And here I thought it was a calamari based economy. Videogamer notes this is the third price cut in the region within 10 months for the console, which originally launched at £429.99. The latest model does not include Kinect nor bundled games. We've reached out to Microsoft about a price drop in the States. The console's price has held steady in the region at $499 for a unit with Kinect and $399 for the currently available Kinect-less version.

  • Nvidia Shield slashed to $199 for April, getting remote game streaming

Nvidia's Android-based handheld game system, Shield, will receive a temporary price drop for April, cutting the system by $50 to $199 for the month. The price cut is accompanied by new features arriving in a software update for the system next week, including a new user interface for the Shield's button-mapping feature. The addition lets players use the Shield's physical buttons for touch-based games on the Google Play store. The hardware company will also add a beta version of its away-from-home game streaming support feature. Players will be able to remotely play PC games on their Shield, waking up and logging in to locked PCs while on the go. Additionally, the update will add bluetooth keyboard and mouse support for those that want to hook their Shields up to a TV to play on a bigger screen. Lastly, the Nvidia Shield will receive the latest version of the Android operating system, nicknamed KitKat (version 4.4.2). Nvidia also recently revealed that Valve's popular first-person puzzler Portal will receive a full PC port on Android with full Shield support. [Image: Nvidia]

  • UK retailer price cuts: Wii U Premium for £180, Xbox One £410

    by
    Sinan Kubba

Amazon UK and Argos both dropped the Wii U Premium to £180 this week, and if that's a familiar-sounding figure it's because it matches the launch price of the Wii. Both retailers have the 32GB Wii U model, complete with Nintendo Land, priced £120 less than the £300 Nintendo itself is asking for, and what most retailers sold the Wii U Premium for at launch. Nintendo UK has several Premium SKUs at £250, including the better value New Super Mario U bundle, and Amazon and Argos more or less price match those bundles. There's been no official word, but perhaps these cuts indicate that Nintendo UK wants to phase out the Nintendo Land bundle, just as Nintendo of America did last year. In contrast, Zavvi taking £20 off the Xbox One is a fresher development for Microsoft's console. Europe's Day One editions of the Xbox One came with free copies of FIFA 14 or Forza 5, so it's arguable £410 better reflects Zavvi's game-less bundle. In any case, other retailers aren't following suit at this stage, so we're not sure what to make of it yet. The Xbox One enjoyed a strong start at retail, racking up 3 million worldwide sales before the close of 2013. The Wii U reached 3 million shipped in a similar time frame, but that early success dried up in 2013, and Nintendo slashed the console's fiscal year forecasts recently from 9 million to 2.8 million - if that figure proves accurate, Nintendo will have shipped 6.2 million units by March 2014.

  • Wii U deluxe price cut to $299, Wind Waker HD coming to eShop Sept. 20 [Update: Trailer!]

Nintendo has slashed the price of its deluxe version of the Wii U to $299 effective September 20, Nintendo announced. The deluxe version, featuring 32 GB of storage, will now match the same price as its basic, 8 GB counterpart. Additionally, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will launch digitally first on Nintendo's eShop September 20, with the boxed version coming October 4. The Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle will include a download code for a copy of the game, and yes, will now be the same price as other Wii U systems, $299. News of the Wii U's price drop comes after Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said earlier this month that the Wii U's price wasn't the issue in regards to the system's underwhelming sales. While the company posted a profit in Q1 2013, it moved just 160,000 Wii U systems during that three-month span. Nintendo also announced an entirely new system today, the Nintendo 2DS. Update: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will not launch earlier on the UK's eShop like it will in North America, Nintendo told VideoGamer. The European release date for the game, both digital and retail, is October 4.
