  • New screens from Treasure Island Z and Devil Kings 2

Famitsu got their hands on some great screens from two upcoming Capcom games: the colorful pirate adventure Treasure Island Z and the upgraded Playstation 2 port Devil Kings 2. We have good news and ... miscellaneous news for both.First, the good news: Devil Kings 2 looks like a hybrid of Dynasty Warriors and Devil May Cry, with cool characters and over-the-top stylish moves. Treasure Island Z's screens show off the interface, which involves-- could it be?-- a hand-shaped cursor interacting with objects on screen! Pointing and clicking, as it were! Now for the other news: for some reason, one of the playable characters in Devil Kings 2 looks like a samurai version of Ultraman, and we haven't decided how we feel about that. And in Treasure Island Z, the character has some kind of stylized Wiimote item in-game. That's kind of a cheap way to be immersive, isn't it? Check after the break for a couple of screens from each game.

Those that have had a PSP since launch may know that Darkstalkers was one of the first games on the system and certainly still one of the best fighters on the handheld. But for those that only know the PSP version or don't know the interesting and varied history of Darkstalkers, you may want to check out Gamespy's Hardcore Gaming 101 write up on the spooky brawler. Even fans of the series may not know facts like Darkstalkers was the first Capcom fighter to have a Super guage and air-blocking or the number of Darkstalkers characters that appeared in Namco X Capcom (a game I'm still sad never came to the US). Cheer up your next gaming party with Darkstalkers trivia or have unhealthy thoughts over the Lilith art. The choice is yours. [Via Game Set Watch]

  • Loyalists cry over Devil May Cry on Xbox 360

The internet is not a safe place to be, especially when it comes to the gaming industry. Earth-shattering announcements are made, megatons are dropped and the entire gaming community explodes and reconstitutes itself so often that the rest of the internet views it as a sort of radioactive leper who's constantly chasing after a pair of misplaced thumbs. Perhaps that's why, every now and then, we're good for a laugh.Take this online petition, for instance. Whether it's made in jest or not doesn't really change the fact that it's absolutely hysterical. It seems a group of Devil May Cry fans are extremely upset about the game going to the Xbox 360 and PC in addition to the PS3 -- so much so that they're going to boycott Capcom and not buy either version. As the internets are fond of saying, "Oh noes!""We (The people that have signed this petition) feel very left out in your decision to make Devil May Cry 4 a Multi-Platform title and hereby agree to boycott your sale of Capcom affiliated games," it reads. "This is due to your decision to turn your back on your most faithful gaming company. For years we have enjoyed games, we have reaped the benefits of your committment to Sony. We find it absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself. We want you to know that will not, and should not stand for your actions, and therefore withold our option of buying your product."Oh dear, Capcom. Not only have you gone and left people out by making your game available to more gamers (not to be confused with fans, apparently), but you've demoralized a huge corporation! Absolutely fiendish.[Via NeoGAF, of course]

Even though the game has been moved to the 360 as well as the PS3, it makes this blogger no less pumped to see one of his most lovingly difficult non-RPG titles in action. More people will get to experience it. Hopefully there's not a curse on all even-numbered DMC titles. While we'd love to embed the HD version of the trailer, it's not allowed or something. Anyway, enjoy your trip down asskickery lane, courtesy of this Devil May Cry 4 action montage.

  • Devil May Cry 4 trailer: slammin beat!

GameTrailers has posted a new, albeit very brief, trailer of Devil May Cry 4. It's basically just a mishmash of gameplay segments. One thing we have to point out is the game's combo system. Like many games, Devil May Cry 4 appears to employ a combat multiplier. The one shown in the video showcases different grades: D, C, B, A, and S. Under normal circumstances this wouldn't really even be worth mentioning, but each grade has a little phrase to go with it. Unfortunately, it looks like Capcom decided to pull these phrases off of a '90s era high school trapper keeper. Behold the horrifying list:D -- "Do it!"C -- "Come on!"B -- "Big up!"A -- "All that!"S -- "Slammin beat!"Call us critical, but these phrases seem to clash just a little with rapid fire demon slaying. At least the game looks fun, right?

We just found out about the employee blogs that Capcom USA has on their website. One in particular, belonging to "Scarlett," is especially cool because it features an interview with a member of the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Justice For All localization staff, Janet Hsu!The interview provides some fairly interesting information about working at Capcom Japan, and about trying to make something as Japanese as Gyakuten Saiban make sense to American audiences. There's also the incredible statement from Ms. Hsu that she only took Japanese classes for about 2 years before coming to Japan. Certain members of the DS Fanboy Blogging Squad have taken much more Japanese than that and can't translate their way out of a paper bag. It's official: Janet Hsu is our new hero, and so are her colleagues JP Kellams and Brandon Gay.[Via GameSetWatch]

So, Devil May Cry 4 is headed to the Xbox 360. We all know that. But just what is Devil May Cry 4? It occurred to us that dedicated 360 fanboys may not be familiar with the game. It looks like the same idea occurred to GameTrailers as well, because they've posted the Tokyo Game Show trailer of the game on the front page. As a service to our readers, we've embedded the trailer at the top of this post (you can grab it in HD here). Feast your eyes on the combo-tastic gameplay and tell us what you think. Now that you've seen what Devil May Cry 4 has to offer, are you looking forward to picking it up?

So, PS3 Fanboy got an email earlier today regarding the Capcom announcement of... well... you know. Devil May Cry 4 going to other platforms... or whatever. The title of the e-mail was something like "Fanboy Damage Control Time" and it intrigued us enough to give it the old clickerooney. We got a link to a website called Fan Boys Must Die -- on it was a large thread of the "favorite" comments left behind by people on multiple websites. PS3 Fanboy is the second one listed! How nice! This is your time to shine, intrepid readers! In fact, if your quote was chosen, you've got to be pretty excited. You left an impact! Also of note is the overwhelming mockery taking place on Joystiq, Major Nelson, and the moderate competence displayed on the official PlayStation forums (spelling aside... no one on the internet can spell anymore). Damage control, spin control, whatever you want to call it, this is an interesting read just to see how extremely some people react.[Thanks, Robert!]

Is any PS3 title safe? In case you haven't picked up on the all the news just yet, you should know that Devil May Cry 4 is now officially coming to the Xbox 360. Announced in the dead of night (for us anyway) by Capcom, Devil May Cry 4 is now headed to the PS3, Xbox 360, and even PC. Are we surprised? No, not really. Capcom has been very open about expanding its properties, making a particular effort to develop titles on PCs, which makes quick console ports a snap. And of course, DMC4 has been rumored for a while, too (does this mean MS will be buying Capcom after all?).But seriously, what's next? Tekken? Kingdom Hearts? Who knows. Right now we're excited enough for the third person action promised by DMC4. Anyone glad to see this show up on the Xbox 360? For that matter, was anyone planning to buy a PS3 just for Devil May Cry 4?[Thanks, Machiavelli 420. Via Joystiq]

  • Devil May Cry 4 no longer a Playstation 3 exclusive

When Microsoft's Shane Kim told 1UP that certain titles we perceive to be PlayStation 3 exclusives weren't so locked up, we figured that he was talking about the Assassin's Creed or Mercenaries debacle. What Nostradamus here was hinting at was probably this: Devil May Cry 4 will be released simultaneously for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360. A PC has also been announced, though it will be shipping on a later date.Capcom announced this news in both a late night press release and on their Japanese website as well. Like every good multi-format press release, it goes on to say that each version of the game will take advantage of the specific strengths of each platform. Well, thank god!Now that Devil May Cry 4 has been announced for all the next generation consoles, we wait for the other foot to drop. While Capcom has gotten pretty cozy with Microsoft, we're interested in seeing just how long Dead Rising and Lost Planet remain Xbox 360 properties. [via PS3 Fanboy][Update - Capcom has sent word that while Devil May Cry 4 will be seeing a release on PC, it won't be shipping alongside the PS3 and 360 versions of the game. Thanks!]

  • Devil May Cry 4 no longer a PS3 exclusive

Sony's list of PS3-exclusive third party games continues to diminish. Capcom has just announced their plans to make Devil May Cry 4 a multi-platform game. The game is now in development for the Xbox 360 and the PC, with the 360 version launching simultaneously as the PS3 version."Capcom is committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible, and has been building its technology base to meet that goal," said Mark Beaumont , executive vice president, officer and head of Capcom consumer software publishing in the Americas and Europe said in the latest press release. While making the game accessible to the largest audience possible is admirable, Sony must now ensure that they do not lose further exclusives. Currently, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII are still slated for PS3-exclusive release, but Sony must make every effort that Konami and Square Enix don't follow suit.

Capcom has laid it out on the line and one thing has made us especially happy (well, just me really): Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles is still on-track for a 2007 release. Yes, we know what the game is, but we just don't care. If it has the name Resident Evil on it, we're buying it.In the interest of everyone else out there besides this lone blogger, the rest of the tidbits are especially delicious. Capcom has announced Devil Kings 2 for the Wii (in Japan only as of right now), which if you're one of the folks who didn't play the first game, you can read about it here. Capcom also notes that they have several unannounced titles in the works for Wii, one of which will be revealed in the next few weeks.Oh, thanks Capcom, don't you know that information such as that hurts us more than it helps us?

Last week PSP owners had the option of downloading the first of a game series that has a newer version already on PSP. I complained about it. Well, I probably should have just been happy there was a new PS1 game to download, because this week there's no PSP content with the weekly PLAYSTATION Store update. When I think of all the possible amazing PS1 games I could have downloaded it makes me cry that I have nothing. I'm sorry I yelled at you Sony, please give me more games to download for my PSP. In the meantime I'm going to start e-mailing Sony non-stop until they release Rival Schools: United by Fate for download.

This week's Famitsu unearths a new game that appears to be basically like treasure: a new Wii adventure game from Capcom, called Treasure Island Z, that is about pirates. Players use the Wiimote to solve riddles and puzzles as they search for riches and improve their standing among pirates. The scan reveals a cartoony graphic style and what look like animated cutscenes. This thing is like a nexus of good news. We don't know how anything could actually turn out as cool as the sum of these parts (pirate adventure games have a lot to live up to, as do Capcom adventure games) but we're hoping that Capcom and director Eiichirou Sasaki (who previously worked on the Resident Evil Outbreak games) are up to the task. Check out the scan after the plank break!

Those of you looking to get your groove on while chilling in a mall and massacring zombies now have you chance, as the Original Soundtrack for Dead Rising has been announced. Ordering online will also net you a snazzy T-Shirt designed by Yoshiki Takahashi, who did the layout for the Kill Bill posters. It seems to be limited edition as our Babelfishery indicates there are only producing 2000 sets. If you buy it now, it will cost you a little over fifty bucks, but there are talks of the soundtrack making its way to Europe and North America. Did you enjoy Dead Rising enough to want to pick up some cool swag and its tunes? [Via QJ.net]

Capcom's recent contest asking gamers to beg for an English version of Gyakuten Saiban 3 has come to a close. Using a supplied comic strip and talk bubbles, participants attempted to fill a courtroom scene with witty dialogue in the hopes of scoring free swag. Nearly 120 entries were received, ranging from slightly amusing to almost incoherent. Capcom has posted the results on a Flickr page to be perused at your leisure. Now, give us Gyakuten Saiban 3 ... pretty please.

During the recently-concluded GDC 07, Keiji Inafune (do we really need to tell you who he is?) talked about the problems of porting new-gen titles over to the Wii. First, he commented on the possibility of bringing over engines from two of the company's latest new-gen games, Dead Rising and Lost Planet. The possibility, it turns out, is non-existent, as he said these titles' engines were optimized for cross-platform use. What will take their place? The Resident Evil 4 engine, it would seem. While Keiji commented that the industry is really craving photorealistic graphics, he is still interested in creating the types of franchises that enjoy iconic mascots, such as Mega Man. Mr. Inafune even commented that Capcom is working on a secret project, to be revealed at a later date. He did not comment, however, if the title would be for the Wii.[Update: loltypo. Thanks, Markus!]

Remember when we told you guys about this? Well, Capcom took the liberty to collect all of the results of said contest on a flickr page, for our viewing pleasure. Some of the comics are just downright hilarious (I BROKE YOUR BUGLE!), so hilarious as to woo the fine folks at Capcom enough so that they bring Gyakuten Saiban 3 to territories outside of Japan, which is looking to be a strong possibility as each new day passes.

Fresh from the developer oven arrives two new Lost Planet multiplayer maps for download off of the XBLM. The multiplayer map pack #1 will include the two new maps "Radar Field" and "Island 902" and will set you back 400 Microsoft Points. So, according to our sixth grade math skills, that works out to be around $2.50 per multiplayer map. Are you willing to pay over $2 for a multiplayer map or does that just seem a tad ridiculous? It's kind of a hard pill to swallow since we received two free maps for Gears a few months ago ... although it was sponsored by the Discovery Channel. No matter, anyone feeling the squeeze of the corporate machine on this purchase?

During that same Media Arts Festival Yoot Saito demonstrated Odama with Wii controls at, the fellow responsible for directing Okami, Hideki Kamiya, talked a bit about Twilight Princess. His words, however, were not as one expects when someone is talking about Link's latest adventure; words strung together in such phrases as "it was phenominal" and "my life has been profoundly changed" were not used. Instead, Kamiya could only muster an apathetic response when asked how he felt about the game.Kamiya said "To be frank, I was disappointed when I saw [Twilight Princess'] visuals. I'm a Zelda freak -- it's no overstatement to say that I created Okami because of Zelda. I really wanted [Twilight Princess] to have that regal aura, because Zelda was what we were aspiring to. I wanted it to show me things that were surprising, but..." Wow, we thought the visuals were downright impeccable at times, such as riding Epona across Hyrule Field during the day. What do you guys think?[via Joystiq]
