Don't be fooled by the fancy-dancy nomenclature, when THQ says "Limited Edition," what it's actually saying is "pre-order bonus." All existing and future pre-orders for Darksiders 2 will be automatically upgraded to the Limited Edition version, which is just the standard version and a packed in DLC voucher.THQ's press release describes the DLC in question, "Argul's Tomb," as "the game's first single-player downloadable content pack." It also states that the Limited Edition voucher can be used "once [the DLC] becomes available," implying that it may not be released on day-one. Furthermore, a $99 pre-order-only Collector's Edition of the game has also been announced, which includes a DLC voucher, life-sized Death Mask with stand, exclusive in-game armor and scythe set with "enhanced stats," a "digital version" of the soundtrack, and a hardcover art book. We can't wait; this is exactly what we need to finish our Casey Jones costume.

If the allure of wanton destruction just isn't enough to entice you to pick up Prototype 2, perhaps the Blackwatch Collector's Edition will convince you. In the realm of physical goodies, the collector's edition includes a hardbound art book and a soundtrack CD. Digital bonuses include all of the RADNET Edition content, the "Colossal Mayhem" DLC pack, Avatar gear for the Xbox and dynamic themes for PS3. The pack also includes a digital Dark Horse comic entitled either "Labrinth" or "Labryinth" depending on whether you trust the press release or the above trailer (yeah, it's probably "Labyrinth"). The final "bonus" in the collector's edition is a voucher for 20 percent off your first purchase of Prototype merchandise. The press release notes that the Blackwatch Collector's Edition is now available for pre-order, though we haven't been able to find it online just yet. Whenever it does arrive, it will retail for $80.

  • Diablo 3 collector's edition details emerge from the abyss [Update]

Update: As some of our readers have pointed out, most of the information regarding the collection has been revealed. Looks like we missed it due to our excitement. We blame that on the hours we've spent perfecting our Deckard Cain fan fiction. UK retailer Game has listed the contents of the Diablo 3 collector's edition, or as Blizzard is billing it, "The Ultimate Diablo 3 Experience." This obviously makes the standard edition a "subultimate" experience, which is almost as cool as the "submarine" experience, which involves buying the collector's edition for the sole purpose of taking bubble baths with the Diablo Skull figurine and the rest of its special contents: Diablo 3 PC/Mac Game Behind the scenes DVD and Blu-Ray Two Disc Set Collectors Edition Soundtrack The Art of Diablo 3 Diablo Skull and 4GB USB Soulstone Diablo 3 Aesthetic Artifacts (in-game) World of Warcraft pet (in-game) Starcraft 2 Battlenet Portraits (in-game) Buying the Diablo 3 collector's edition can also snag you four free months of World of Warcraft, if you've been a player since Oct. 18, at least. Game lists the Diablo 3 collector's edition at £69.99. No word yet on North American specifics, or if they're any different than the UK's.[Thanks, Felipe!]

Nordic Games has revealed the contents of its Alan Wake PC editions -- collector's and standard -- which are set to hit Steam on February 16 and retail shelves on March 2. The standard edition includes the full game and The Signal and The Writer DLC packs on one disc, the original soundtrack on a second, six post cards, seven stickers, a poster and a manual. The collector's edition includes everything in the standard edition, plus audio commentary and background information from developer Remedy Entertainment that can be switched on during the main game. It also has "The Alan Wake Files," 144 pages of evidence complied by in-game author Clay Steward, and a third disc with a making-of feature, the history of Remedy, trailers and behind-the-scenes content.Alan Wake is set to hit Steam in downloadable form on February 16, at $30 for the standard edition and $35 for the collector's edition, though without the discs and "premium packaging" promised in both retail forms.

Risen 2: Dark Waters, the pirate RPG coming in April from Piranha Bytes and Deep Silver, is getting a collector's edition in the UK only. We find that part a little strange, considering pirates are supposed to be pretty good at traveling overseas. Sorry; we had to.The UK collector's edition will include a "making of" DVD, a soundtrack CD, double-sided poster, pirate flag, amulet, art cards and three Risen 2 stickers, all for £69.99. The UK version of Risen 2: Dark Waters drops anchor on April 27, while the US version drops April 24.

  • TERA pre-orders available, closed beta access included

TERA news is coming fast and furious lately, and luckily for En Masse, today's blurb is a good one. The game is officially available for pre-order, and as you would expect, there are all kinds of options relating to various gifts and gadgets depending on where (and what version) you purchase. There's also a bit of beta bribery in the form of automatic access to all five of the closed testing phases that begin this month and continue through April. What about the editions? Well, you can choose between standard, digital collector's, and physical collector's version, and the latter two come with an in-game mount and a couple of unique necklace items. The physical collector's edition justifies its $79.99 price point with a cloth map, a soundtrack CD, a handbook, a compass, and a letter of marque. En Masse is also offering a couple of exclusives for purchasing directly through its online store.

  • Terraria goes retail in EU with 'Collector's Edition' on March 16

Despite selling over 1 million copies of Terraria across Terra Firma, Merge Games believes the title has yet to reach a key demographic: PC game buyers without internet connections. Okay, okay, it's also possible that the Merge Games-published "Collector's Edition" of the Re-Logic-developed 2D indie hit is popular enough to warrant a version made especially for superfans, but we much prefer the concept of a board meeting to discuss a gradually disappearing group of people.Anyway, the collector's edition of Terraria will run EU residents £19.95 (€23.80/$31.30) when it arrives at retailers on March 16, and will come packed with "an exclusive in-game item, a poster, a key ring, and trading cards." That's about $20 more than the digital copy costs you on Steam right this minute -- but does that contain the adorable little pickaxe keychain (seen after the break)? Yeah, we didn't think so.It's unclear if the collector's version of Terraria will arrive in North America or Asia, but we've asked Merge Games for clarification.

  • Here's the Ninja Gaiden 3 collector's edition (with bonus screenshots)

There probably isn't a person alive who hasn't, at some point in their life, enjoyed the sight of a ninja flipping out and killing a bunch of dudes. It's universal, like how everyone enjoys warm blankets or shooting firearms. There's a special kind of person, however, that also has an affinity for extreme, debilitating punishment, which is why Ninja Gaiden 3 exists. NG3's collector's edition, which we first caught wind of last December, includes the game, an art book, a soundtrack, a figure set of Ryu Hayabusa and an eventual murder victim, as well as a download voucher for a four-character demo of Dead of Alive 5. Non-collector's edition pre-orders placed at Gamestop and Amazon will include a code for a two-character demo of DOA5, with Gamestop's demo including Hayabusa and Hitomi, and Amazon's featuring Ayane and Hayate (the four-character version includes both Amazon and GameStop's characters). The collector's edition will be available exclusively at Gamestop, indicating that Tecmo Koei truly understands the unique relationship it has with its players.%Gallery-144412%

  • Aliens: Colonial Marines special edition spotted

Gamekyo has discovered an image of what appears to be a collector's edition of Aliens: Colonial Marines. Based on the unconfirmed evidence, the collector's edition will include a nifty display box, several in-game weapons, a new "USMC Academy Firing Range" game mode and the USCM Dossier, which offers "essential briefing notes on the Xenomorph infestation." We're assuming the more salient points will cover acid blood and secret mouths. What's that? Oh yeah, it also includes a badass power loader statue. Despite all that, Sega tells Joystiq that it is "not commenting on this rumor."

  • SWTOR welcomes Collector's Edition arrivals and suffers credit farmers

It was the best of times in The Old Republic, it was the worst of times. Even though BioWare's freshman MMO has yet to officially launch, so-called "credit farmers" are already hard at work setting up operations to sell in-game currency via third party sources. Shacknews identified one company, IGXE, as spearheading the assault on SWTOR's economy, although that company certainly is not alone in attempting to bypass the EULA. On a brighter note, the Collector's Edition of the game has already shipped to many (but not all) customers, and Darth Hater has a massive 20-minute unboxing video to show off all of the physical goodies that come inside. If you're curious or are still waiting for your own CE to arrive, you can view the action-packed video after the jump.

  • Ninja Gaiden 3 arrives on March 20, pre-order or get collector's edition for DOA5 demo

Tecmo Koei is ensuring that we'll all be laden with giant, heavy video game boxes on March 20, making us perfect targets for ninja assassins. Hmm. That's the newly announced North American release date for Ninja Gaiden 3. It's also the date on which the Collector's Edition will become available, only at GameStop and EB. The "truly deluxe package" includes an art book, soundtrack CD, and "Duel of the Masked" figure. Most importantly, you'll get a four-character Dead or Alive 5 demo. Even if, for whatever reason, you decide you don't need that figurine or the rest of the Collector's Edition, pre-ordering any version of the game at GameStop or Amazon will get you a two-character DOA5 demo. If you choose GameStop, you have access to Ryu Hayabusa and Hitomi, while Amazon grants you Ayane and Hayate.

  • Video: Mass Effect 3 'N7 Collector's Edition' packed with bonus character, robotic canine

Not even BioWare's skilled scribes can insulate the Mass Effect universe from inappropriate procrastination. No matter the perils faced by the galaxy (in this case, it's about to be razed and strip-mined by a race of scary-voice sentient machines), players are likely to steer their avatars away from pressing matters in order to feed a kitty or buy some capsule toys. With that inevitability in mind, BioWare announced a while back that you can get a robotic doggy for your ship in Mass Effect 3. Now you can see it in the trailer above, snatched from Gamestop's website. The artificial pet -- which you can probably pet, artificially -- is one of several cool bonuses included with the N7 Collector's Edition, and just one of a few you can play with when you're busy not saving civilizations from imminent eradication. The special package includes an N7 hoodie for Commander Shepard, alternate outfits for some of his squad, a Normandy avatar prop for Xbox Live, a fabric N7 patch, a 70-page art book, a fancy metal case, a digital soundtrack (by Clint Mansell), a lithographic print ... Oh, and there's some important stuff too! The $80 admission fee nets you extra firepower, a currently "classified" bonus character, and a downloadable mission. Probably something about saving the world and whatnot.

While we don't get the lovely Final Fantasy XIII-2 PlayStation 3 system in North America, we will get a different, but also lovely, box in which to store the game. The publisher unveiled the $79.99 Collector's Edition today, featuring exclusive cover art by longtime series artist Yoshitaka Amano. Within the box is the game on Xbox 360 or PS3, a four-disc soundtrack, and a book of exclusive concept art. It'll be available in "limited quantities" at GameStop, Best Buy, and Amazon on January 31.%Gallery-139051%

You know the biggest news related to Soulcalibur V; and now you can see the game's biggest box. Namco Bandai revealed the book-style collector's edition for the game, which includes the usual soundtrack and art book, along with a making-of video and exclusive downloadable White Knight and Dark Knight (not that Dark Knight!) armor sets for the character creation mode. The CE will be available alongside the standard edition on January 31. No price was given, but it looks classy, which no doubt adds a couple dollars to the total. Speaking of class, Namco also unveiled a pre-order bonus from an as-yet-unspecified retailer: Dampierre, the Waluigi-looking fellow from Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny. You'll find lots of images of him, along with Ezio, new character Leixia, and returning characters Raphael and Nightmare, in our gallery.%Gallery-137249%

  • Star Wars: The Old Republic video gives a look inside the collector's edition

Here's a question for you: How is Star Wars: The Old Republic like Christmas? Right, it releases the same week, but do you know another way it's like Christmas? That's right! Opening the Collector's Edition is like opening one of those box-inside-a-box-inside-a-box presents your uncle gives you as a gag gift. However, this one should be more fun because the deeper you dive into the box the greater the gift becomes. This giant box, featuring a painting of bounty hunter Shae Vizla directly on the front, slides open from the top revealing six items inside. The Journal of Master Gnost-Dural features full-color images of the events leading up to the Sacking of Corurscant. A tabloid-sized galaxy map visually indicates all the places you will be able to visit in the game. An authenticator key helps secure your personal information from hackers. A statue of Darth Malgus hides in the largest box within the main box. A single CD contains the full musical score for the game, and lastly, the three-disk game set is encased inside a collectable metal case. Catch a one-and-a-half-minute video unveiling each piece after the break.

  • Rayman Origins Collector's Edition is exclusive to Europe

Ubisoft's limbless helicopter-head hero is appearing with a little more physical fanfare in Europe. The publisher is wrapping his gorgeous return to 2D, Rayman Origins, in a Collector's Edition for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this November. Even the packaging itself is special. The quality of the 50-page art book will likely match the visuals we've seen coming from the UbiArt framework (which integrates high-resolution illustrations and pairs them with a skeletal animation system), and the soundtrack will probably be described as "whimsical," but forget all that. The box itself folds into a cute diorama depicting mischief makers Rayman and Globox. Ubisoft has confirmed to Joystiq that this edition of Rayman Origins, currently listed at GBP 54.99 on Amazon UK, is only coming to Europe -- soon to be the origin of quite a few imports, we imagine.

  • Final Fantasy Type-0's Japanese collector's edition is lovely

    09.10.2011

Final Fantasy Type-0 is finally coming out in Japan on October 27, and Square Enix is observing the long-awaited occasion with an absolutely gorgeous collector's edition. This limited release of the PSP game packs a book of postcards and a three-disc soundtrack set, and looks damn good doing it. Here's a bummer: this super pretty set is only going to be available on the Japanese Square Enix e-Store, for ¥12,760. So, there's very little chance of actually encountering one of these in real life. We're addressing this situation by just gazing languidly at this picture, and the others on Andriasang. It'll also be possible to buy the soundtrack and postcards later, if you're the proactive type.

  • You decide what goes in the Borderlands 2 collector's edition; also, a survey

Gearbox is all ears (and other limbs, internal organs and appendages -- they're not freaks) for the contents of the Borderlands 2 collector's edition, asking for creative fan suggestions to fill out its packaging. Post your collector's edition dreams in the official forum, or right here, as Gearbox has promised to read our own thread as well. Gearbox also has a short survey for Borderlands players to fill out, asking questions about which aspects of the game were most important and why, ending with an open-ended suggestion box. For those low on free-form comment juices, feel free to copy this one with the appropriate words inserted: "Borderlands was a(n) (adjective) game with (adjective) art style and (adjective) gameplay mechanics. (Don't) change anything in that regard for Borderlands 2. The storyline could be (more/less) cohesive in the sequel and the AI could (not) be improved. Also, more lasers."

  • Europe's Sonic Generations CE prevents your death with inclusion of a gold ring

    09.07.2011

If you're a long-time Sonic fan, it's likely that Sega has already gotten you with Sonic Generations, which celebrates the character's history. But now, the publisher has smartly guaranteed that all those same fans will upgrade to the new collector's edition -- by including a gold ring, something that every Sonic fan exhibits a Pavlovian response to. Ironically, it appears to be a paperweight, and thus designed to make things stop moving. Along with that trinket, the set includes a statuette of Sonic and his pal Sonic, an artbook with unseen illustrations from the series, a 20th anniversary soundtrack, and a documentary called "History of Sonic: Birth of an Icon." Oh, and there's a PS3 or Xbox 360 copy of the actual game, and a DLC voucher. This is even more stuff than was included in retail listings for the Collector's Edition. But a few important things won't be part of the deal: there won't be a Collector's Edition for the 3DS version, and there won't be an American release either. This is for Europe only.
