Acer is showing off a 55-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor
We all know someone who bought a big TV to use as a PC monitor, refresh rates be damned. Thankfully, Acer is joining the not-so select group of companies producing enormous displays that are actually suitable for PC gaming. The company's Predator division is announcing the CG552K, a 55-inch, 4K OLED display that sports adaptive sync, NVIDIA G-Sync and a 120Hz refresh rate. It's smarter than your average TV, too, with a light sensor that optimizes brightness depending on the local environment, and a proximity sensor that activates the monitor when it detects your presence. It also packs plenty of connectivity options, including three HDMI 2.0, two DisplayPort v1.4, one USB-C and two USB-type-A, as well as pair of 10W speakers nestled inside. Additionally, the display has 98.5 percent DCI-P3 color gamut and 400 nits brightness, so it should do well for work as well as play. And no gaming monitor would be complete without a customizable light strip, would it?

Nine people charged with selling Samsung's curved display tech
Prosecutors in South Korea have indicted nine people and two companies for allegedly selling Samsung's curved-edge OLED display tech (which it uses in its flagship Galaxy phones) to a company in China. The CEO of Samsung supplier Toptec Co Ltd was among three people arrested over the scheme. Prosecutors say he and eight employees received about $13.8 million for the intellectual property.

Dell's 49-inch ultra-wide monitor is built for extreme multitasking
Dell is about to make you very happy if you're into heavy-duty multitasking. The company has unveiled the UltraSharp 49 Curved Monitor, billed as the first dual QHD (5,120 x 1,440) ultra-wide curved display at its size. The allure, as you might guess, is the no-compromise productivity -- you can run two typical full-screen apps (or two PCs) side-by-side without a drop in resolution or overall size. It's also using an IPS panel that covers 99 percent of the sRGB color gamut, so it should be helpful if you're a photo or video editor who wants as much space as possible for palettes and timelines.

Samsung ships its curved QLED monitor with Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 displays are still quite rare in the PC world, let alone curved ones, but Samsung is ready to supply both at once. After a preview at CES, it's releasing its CJ79 curved QLED monitor worldwide. The 34-inch screen mates an ultra-wide 3,440 x 1,440 quantum dot screen (including a 125 percent sRGB color gamut) with two Thunderbolt 3 ports that provide 85W of power, a display signal and data through a single cable. Samsung pitches it as a productivity hub for MacBook Pro and Windows laptop owners who want a vast workspace without straining their eyes looking at a flat screen.

Samsung's latest curved gaming monitors are fast and cheap
So you want a curved Samsung gaming monitor, but you don't want to splash out for an over-the-top model like the HDR-ready CHG90. Are you out of luck? Not for much longer -- Samsung has unveiled the CJG5 series, which delivers some of the core features you might crave without the nice-to-have extras. It still includes a curved panel (to provide a more natural focus for your eyes, Samsung claims) and a speedy 144Hz refresh rate, but in a standard 16:9 aspect ratio, 2,560 x 1,440 VA display (no quantum dots here) at 32- and 27-inch sizes.

Samsung's beastly 49-inch QLED display is built for gaming
It would almost be ridiculous not to buy a 4K TV without HDR, since you can get such sets for under $500 -- so it's weird that we haven't seen many HDR PC displays yet. Luckily, Samsung has some big news on that front: The company is releasing three new QLED monitors that sound like a dream for gamers. All of them, including the 27- and 32-inch CHG70s, plus the rather insane 49-inch CHG90 model, offer a 1.07-billion-color palette, a one-millisecond refresh rate and wraparound 1800R curvature.

Japan Display battles Samsung's OLED with curved LCD screens
One of Apple's main screen suppliers, Japan Display Inc. (JDI), has revealed a 5.5-inch LCD smartphone screen that can be bent like OLED displays from Samsung and LG. While not quite as flexible and thin as OLED, the "Full Active Flex" 1080p screen could be used in phones with curved screens like the Galaxy S7 Edge, the company told the Wall Street Journal. LCD is a lot cheaper than OLED, so you could see a lot more curved phone designs when it starts manufacturing the panels in 2018.

Samsung reveals a curved, quantum dot monitor aimed at gamers
Samsung has revealed the CH711, a curved quantum dot monitor built "with gamers in mind." It also appears to be targeting Mac users and designers with the model, judging by the sharp-looking white color scheme and marketing shots (above). The displays, in 27- and 31.5-inch sizes, feature 2,560 x 1,440 resolution, a pronounced 1,800R curvature, 178-degree viewing angle and 125 percent of sRGB coverage. Cables are hidden in the stand, which also lets you flip the monitor to a vertical position, though the heavy curve might make that format a bit awkward.

Xiaomi's curved Note 2 has a striking yet familiar look
It was only last month when Xiaomi launched the Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus, but the Chinese company is already back with yet another flagship model. What we have here is the Mi Note 2 which, as you can tell by the name, is all about its large 5.7-inch 1080p display and generous 4,070 mAh battery. If it weren't for the missing stylus, you'd easily confuse the Mi Note 2 with the Samsung S7 Edge or Note 7: It comes in a familiarly gorgeous body design with curved glass on both sides, and yes, much like Samsung's offerings, the Mi Note 2 features a flexible OLED screen that lightly wraps around the edges, though it's just for looks for now. Not bad for a phone that starts from 2,799 yuan or about $413.

Samsung has announced a trio of high-end curved gaming monitors that brings its quantum dot technology to the masses. There are two devices, the CFG70, which is available in 24-and-27-inch sizes, as well as a super premium CF791 that packs a 34-inch, 3,440 x 1,400 display. The devices promise to create more immersive gaming experiences that look as good as they possibly could, although we couldn't tell that from the demo. Unfortunately, a leisurely game of FIFA Soccer is the worst way to show off a monitor that's really designed for fast-paced games like first-person shooters

HP's new Omen gaming PCs include a cube-shaped desktop
Gamers have many reasons why they steer clear of desktops from big-name brands, but one of the biggest is the poor expansion. You may have fewer upgrade slots (if any) versus a white label or home-built rig, and you'll frequently have to contend with non-standard parts. HP thinks it can make you reconsider, however. It's refreshing its Omen gaming PCs once again, and the highlight is a completely new Omen X Desktop that promises both the perks of a major company's industrial design with the expansion that you crave. That cube-on-its-side look is not only relatively unique in a sea of generic towers, but genuinely functional. Its three-chamber structure separates hot components while giving you room for expansion that includes dual graphics cards, four tool-free hard drive bays and an M.2 SSD. Also, this is an industry-standard chassis -- HP will sell you the barebones case if you prefer to supply your own internals, and Maingear will even build its own beastly gaming PC around the box this year.

LG unveils next year's monitors and laptops ahead of CES
LG announced three classes of products on Tuesday that it will be showcasing at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. First up, LG announced a trio of new models for its 21:9 UltraWide line of monitors. They'll all sport 3440- x 1440-pixel screens and ThunderBolt 2 connectors. The The UC98 and UC88 models both feature curved screens, while the UM88 will not.

Acer rolls out a curved, super-wide display with AMD's gaming tech
You can get desktop PC displays that are curved, super-wide and gaming-friendly, but all three at once? That's tricky. Thankfully, Acer thinks it has an answer. The company has just launched the 34-inch XR341CK in the US, giving you a curvy, 21:9 aspect ratio LCD with AMD's anti-tearing FreeSync tech built-in. So long as you have a fast-enough gaming rig (including newer AMD graphics, if you want FreeSync), you'll get an extra-immersive canvas for your first-person shooters and racing sims.

LG's cheaper G Flex2 hits shelves
Quirky as it is, we quite like LG's G Flex2 for its pretty design, performance, camera and quick charging battery. The banana-shaped phone is now on sale in the US, Hong Kong, Singapore, France, Germany and the U.K. You can pre-order at Sprint for $504, or $21 a month for two years (on contract), at Carphone Warehouse in the UK SIM-free for £530 ($820) and in Germany for €649 ($740). That's a lot cheaper than the $940 of the original G Flex, and the new model has a bleeding-edge Snapdragon 810 CPU, 5.5-inch curved P-OLED Full HD display and 3,000mAh, 40-minute charging time battery. Pre-orders should pop up soon at other US carriers and it'll arrive to the rest of the world after MWC 2015, which starts next week.
