Optimus G Pro for AT&T leaks out ahead of LG's US press event
Want a glimpse of what LG may have in store for the US market come the first of May? Chances are this latest render (pictured above) from @evleaks could very turn out to be AT&T's Optimus G Pro variant. From the looks of things, not much has changed design-wise since we reviewed the 5.5-inch global model, with the removable, high-gloss backplate still sporting that sub-surface pattern first introduced on the Optimus G. Even the arrangement of the rear camera, flash and speaker appear to have remained the same -- the only noticeable difference is the AT&T globe situated none too subtly below. Whether or not LG's reworked its internals remains to be seen, but with the event now less than a week away, we'll have all the answers soon enough.
Nokia Lumia 928 spied for Verizon Wireless
How does a US carrier get around AT&T's exclusivity of the Lumia 920? Why, it releases an exclusive of its own, of course. News of the Lumia 928 is probably familiar to many of you, which has been rumored (and spotted in inventory systems) as an upscale Windows Phone for Verizon. Now, things just got real, as @evleaks has just released the first glimpse of the Lumia 928, and adorned in black, we're quite sure that Batman would approve. Naturally, Big Red's branding adorns both the front and back of the device, but at least there's a modicum of restraint. This being Nokia's second Windows Phone outing on Verizon, we're crossing our fingers that the phone was spared a beating with the ugly stick. We'll reserve judgment until we can get our grubby mitts on one.
ZTE Grand X Quad shows up in product shots, @evleaks style (update: already available)
Another day, another @evleaks leak. This time it's a pair of official product shots of the ZTE V987 we saw back in January, and apparently the official name here is the Grand X Quad -- not quite as elegant-sounding as the more powerful Grand S, perhaps. That's pretty much it from the mysterious leakster, but thanks to TENAA's database, we already know most of the specs from last time: 5-inch 720p gapless display, 1.2GHz quad-core chip, 8-megapixel camera, dual-SIM support (WCDMA plus GSM) and a removable 2,500mAh battery. Assuming this Grand X Quad will be sold cheaper, we'd imagine it'd do pretty well if it features the same build quality as its sister device -- we'll let you guys know once we get to do a hands-on, naturally. Update: Well this is weird. It turns out that ZTE's been very quietly selling this budget phone for ¥1,699 or about $270 in China since late February, though availability is very limited by the looks of it. No wonder ZTE didn't even bother with a press release.
Huawei's Ascend G700 exposed, may be Ascend D2's cheaper cousin
Watch out, Richard Yu! Not long after the China launch of the 6.1-inch Huawei Ascend Mate earlier today, the notorious @evleaks tweeted out the above two press shots of an Ascend G700, as well as referring to an old tweet from the often reliable @paopao0128 (of Blog of Mobile fame) who suggested the G700 will feature Android 4.2, a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 SoC (as opposed to the quad-core Huawei HiSilicon K3V2 chip on the Ascend Mate and the Ascend D2), an "HD" LCD (our money's on 720p only, like the leaked G710) and both WCDMA and TD-SCDMA flavors. Another fresh G700 leak we found shows a hands-on photo obtained from Sina Weibo (which has since been deleted, but it's also right after the break), and it also mentions that the phone will have a 5-inch display plus 2GB of RAM. There's no info on pricing, but the careless leakster on Weibo reminded us that the budget-minded G series devices never go over ¥2,000 or about $320 unsubsidized. To put that into perspective, the quad-core, 5-inch full-HD D2 is currently available for almost twice as many yuans. Well, it shouldn't be long before Chinese consumers get yet another 5-inch device to stuff their pockets.
HTC Myst specs purportedly leak, hint at a second-gen social phone
We wouldn't exactly call the social networking-focused HTC ChaCha (aka Status) and Salsa resounding successes in the smartphone world when they were quickly overshadowed by... just about everything with a Facebook app, really. Still, there have been murmurs of a comeback, and Unwired View's historically reliable @evleaks has obevleakstained specs for what's supposedly the follow-up. The HTC Myst (Myst #UL, to be exact) wouldn't have any special tricks on the surface beyond preloaded Facebook apps, but it could be surprisingly well-equipped for a mid-range Jelly Bean device: a 4.3-inch 720p screen, a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4, LTE and 16GB of non-expandable storage would be nothing to sneeze at. About the only sacrifices would be the 1GB of RAM and a potentially UltraPixel-free 5-megapixel rear camera. While there's no guarantee that these details will reflect a shipping device, there's talk of the Myst reaching the US as early as the spring -- we won't have long to learn the truth. Just don't expect that other Myst in the box.
Samsung Galaxy S IV design, specs potentially leaked on Twitter (update: they're from Expansys)
Even as the secret of Samsung's Galaxy S IV has been handed off to some teenager, the @evleaks Twitter account (which has been reliable in the past) just posted a supposed pic of and specs for the phone. Along with what's clearly a rendering and potentially just a placeholder image of the phone, the specs list a Super AMOLED Full HD screen of unknown size, 16GB/32GB/64GB storage options with 2GB of RAM, a 13MP camera and Android 4.2 OS. A second image shows the same mockup lined up with previous Galaxy phones apparently confirming its status as the largest one yet, although that's not surprising given recent trends. Of course, given what we know about the lengths Samsung went to protect the design of the Galaxy S III (multiple designs, hand-delivered prototypes), you'll forgive us for reserving judgement until the real thing is shown off on March 14th. Update: We've been informed that both renders are from e-tailer Expansys, which adds yet another dusting of salt to the reliability of these specs. The listing also throws in that rumored eye-based scrolling feature. Jeremy is in big trouble. Update 2: Now evleaks has deleted the original tweets -- anyone else ready for 9 more days like this?
HTC's 'Tiara' crowns a medium spec, Windows Phone 8 GDR2 device
Trust. It's a valuable commodity. But serial twitter-sleuth @evleaks has done enough to earn ours for this latest leak. A Windows Phone 8 device -- apparently known internally as the Tiara -- which will be one of the first to run the next revision of the mobile operating system (GDR2). With a reported 4.3-inch display, a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera and 1GB of RAM, it bears more than a resemblance to another recent addition to the HTC fold. If you had hopes that it might also borrow from the firm's latest Android flagship design, then sorry to dash them, as the sources suggest otherwise. The Tiara moniker is unlikely to remain, with @evleaks taking a stab at it coming to market mid-May, possibly as the HTC 8W. Not a bad guess. Now it's just a matter of waiting to see if all that trust is truly well placed.
Huawei Ascend G710 reportedly spied touting a 5-inch, 720p screen
Just because Huawei has already launched a small torrent of smartphones two months into 2013 doesn't mean the company is taking a vacation anytime soon. @evleaks has spotted what's purported to be the Ascend G710, a not-quite-high-end smartphone that would sit just below the Ascend D2. While it would preserve the 5-inch screen and 1.5GHz quad-core processor, it would dip to a 720p resolution. There's hints that it may be more a step sideways, however, through some less performance-minded changes: the G710 would have a premium-looking metal (or metal-effect) back, free up screen real estate with capacitive navigation buttons and talk to both CDMA and GSM networks. When the camera, storage and the all-important launch plans are still missing, though, there's a long way to go before we know where this latest Ascend might sit in Huawei's catalog.
Nokia Lumia 720 and Lumia 520 press shots revealed
See that group of phones just sitting around, pretending not to have a care in the world? Turns out, this is the new Lumia 720, which is now greeting the world for the first time in a leaked press photo. If you'll recall, this device, along with the Lumia 520 (shown after the break), was recently leaked for arrival within Indonesia. While we've yet to learn of other markets or concrete specs for the pair of smartphones, it just became a bit more likely that we'll see the Lumia 720 and Lumia 520 formally greet the world in just a matter of days. Game on, Nokia.
HTC One leaks in press shot (again), this time in black
When HTC CEO Peter Chou showed off his company's next flagship phone, the M7 / HTC One a few weeks ago, he had both black and silver versions in hand. Shortly after, known press pic source evleaks snagged a promo image in silver and now has posted another to Unwired View, this time of the black one. Still sporting a unique two button design seen previously and what we assume is a Sense 5.0 homescreen widget, this pic also flashes New York localized info, as compared to the earlier leak's London home. For now, we're left counting down until its expected unveiling on the 19th in... New York and London -- see you there.
HTC One, formerly known as M7, allegedly leaks in press shot
Well, we're only a few days away from finding out what HTC has in store for us at their pre-MWC event, but expectations are it's the M7. Or, as the rumor mill is now calling it, the HTC One. While Peter Chou has already flashed the device at an event, evleaks claims to have the first clear press shot of the device. As you can see we're looking at a strange capacitive button layout that puts home on the right and a big logo smack in the center. Though it's hard to be certain, it also looks as if the edges of the device are metallic or chrome. The icons tally with some Sense 5 screenshots that leaked recently, while a separate User Agent Profile leak suggests we're looking at a Butterfly-style 1080p display (see More Coverage). Of course, we can't confirm that the handset will bear the One branding or that it is indeed legit, but considering evleaks' track record we're willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.
HTC's M4 and G2 Androids likely to launch after the M7
Now that we know the M7 is alive and well, we can look at the other goodies that HTC is going to bring us this year. According to the pretty reliable @evleaks, two more Android phones will be launched at some point after the M7's pre-MWC debut: a fairly powerful M4 and a low-end G2 (not to be confused with the T-Mobile G2). The former's highlights are its 4.3-inch 720p display (same as the 8X's), a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon chip, a whopping 13-megapixel F2.0 camera (apparently the same as the M7's) and optional LTE. On the other hand, the G2 will pack a more modest 3.5-inch 480 x 320 screen, a 1GHz processor and a 5-megapixel camera, so it's very much just a slight upgrade from the Desire C which also runs Ice Cream Sandwich -- unlike the beefier M4 with Jelly Bean. The same leakster reckons we won't be seeing these two devices at MWC, but we'll keep an eye out just in case.
Huawei D2, Mate and W1 reportedly pose for press images
Huawei has already left little doubt as to what we'll see from its smartphone line at CES. If official teasers aren't enough, however, well-known phone tipster @evleaks has given Unwired View what's purported to be press images for the three key introductions. The Ascend W1 Windows Phone (at left) looks much like we've seen from live shots, just with newer black and pink hues; the Ascend D2 (right) isn't quite so rainbow-like, but supports what's been claimed of the 5-inch phone's aesthetic and custom interface. A shot for the Ascend Mate (after the break), despite representing the company's stand-out device, is the least surprising given that executive Richard Yu showed customers the real thing just days ago. We'd still give these images a long look -- while there's chances for inaccuracies or surprises, they may be the best glimpses of Huawei's early 2013 lineup before we see it first-hand.
Alleged 4-inch Samsung Galaxy Axiom leaks, could be headed to US Cellular
The always-informative evleaks has done it yet again. This time out it's not a Lumia 920 or some revealing press shots of the PadFone 2, though -- instead, what we have here is what appears to be a variant of Samsung's recently announced Galaxy Mini. According to evleaks, this 4-inch handset will be officially known as the Galaxy Axiom (model SCH-R830), and could very well end up on US Cellular, bringing with it a WVGA display alongside a decent dual-core, 1.2GHz MSM8960 CPU, LTE and Ice Cream Sandwich. Naturally, take this with a grain of salt, but given the messenger's recent track record, it also wouldn't surprise us if we hear something more official in the days to come. In the meantime, however, it looks as if the picture above will have to suffice.
Verizon-bound HTC DNA gets up close and personal in leaked press photo
HTC is throwing its hat into the phablet ring and it appears that its sleeping giant is set to awaken on Verizon's network, but not before smiling for the cameras. Pictured above is a (presumably) leaked press shot of the highly anticipated Droid DNA, which is believed to be Big Red's stateside rendition of the 5-inch Super LCD 3, 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon-toting J Butterfly. While this device has generated quite a buzz, it remains to be seen if this Japanese behemoth's red, white and blue counterpart will ship with identical hardware. Thankfully, all should be revealed soon, as Verizon and HTC have scheduled a get together later this month in the Big Apple and of course we'll be on hand to bring you all of the gory details, no matter how difficult to handle.
PadFone 2 surfaces in video, ASUS CEO gives viewers a brief tour (video) (update: leaked press shots)
A launch event invitation has already given us a glimpse of the ASUS PadFone 2, but Bloomberg TV India caught up with the firm's CEO Jerry Shen and snagged a video tour of the device before its October 16th reveal. The second iteration of the PadFone packs a 4.7-inch HD (presumably 720p) screen and 13-megapixel camera, which jives with specs on supposedly leaked packaging. Rather than having to fuss with a cover flap to slide the smartphone into its tablet shell, users will be able to dock the device straight into a lighter and thinner slate component. Other details are scarce, but we're sure to find out more when the curtain is ceremoniously pulled back next Tuesday. In the meantime, you can forge past the break to see footage of the hybrid starting at the 1:40 mark. Update: The ever-prolific evleaks has just tweeted out a glamour shot of the PadFone 2 and its accompanying tablet dock. Leaked Nokia Atlas image shows a Windows Phone 8 device heading to Verizon
When AT&T announced it was keeping the Lumia 920 for itself, plenty of clothes were rended and teeth were gnashed. However, the ever-reliable @evleaks has shown a picture of a Nokia handset, codenamed Atlas, that's bound for Verizon's, erm, less unpopular network. While there's no official confirmation as to the phone's pedigree, we wouldn't be surprised if it was a customized version of the 820 to follow in the footsteps of T-Mobile's 810. Whatever happens, we don't have that long to find out either way.
LG Optimus L9 for T-Mobile emerges from the magenta mist
Looks like the Optimus G isn't the only smartphone from LG that'll soon hit US carriers, as its similarly sized (yet slower) sibling has just been outed for T-Mobile. True to form, the price and release date of the Optimus L9 are wholly absent from the equation, but outside of any substantial tweaks, shoppers may rightfully expect an Android 4.0.4 smartphone with a 4.7-inch qHD display that's powered by a dual-core 1GHz CPU. In its global iteration, the device also sports a 5-megapixel camera, 4GB of built-in storage and a 2,150mAh battery, which provides a rough guideline of what's on the horizon at T-Mobile. Naturally, there are more powerful smartphones to be found, but if the price is right, the Optimus L9 may hit a sweet spot for many.
LG Optimus L7 leaks for Boost Mobile as the Venice
The merriment continues at evleaks, which just spilled another smartphone via Twitter. This time it's the LG Venice for Boost Mobile: a rebadged version of the Optimus L7 that just so happens to sport a handsome silvery backplate. This is the second version of the Optimus L7 to be geared for US shores, the first being the Splendor for US Cellular. Absent any drastic changes, shoppers can rightfully expect to find an Android 4.0 smartphone that's paired with a single-core 1GHz CPU, a 4.3-inch WVGA display and a 5-megapixel camera that'll capture video at 720p. Unfortunately, pricing for the Venice remains up in the air, which makes it difficult to know whether it'll provide much of a value proposition within Boost's lineup. Likewise, the all-important release date is also a mystery, although with the carrier actively refreshing its fall lineup, a near-term arrival is certainly within reason.
LG Escape breaks out of obscurity, sets sights on AT&T
Not content to wait for official phone announcements? The folks at EVLeaks have got you covered -- outing another handset's vitals on Twitter. The team's latest breach appears to be the LG Escape, an Ice Cream Sandwich powered Android handset sporting a 4.3-inch qHD display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 5 megapixel rear facing camera, NFC and a 2150 mAh battery. EVLeaks also says the device is primed for AT&T's LTE network, which corroborates nicely with Federal reports. No word on price or availability just yet, but we'll let you know when we hear more details.
