Miss out on the special edition of Fallout 4? You know, the one that comes with a real-life, smartphone-enabled Pip-Boy? Never mind, you can always drown your sorrows with some Fallout Beer instead. That is, if you live in the UK anyway. Developer Bethesda has teamed up with Carlsberg for the promotional beverage, which it says is inspired by Vault-Tec Industries and the rest of the post-apocalyptic game franchise. A 12-pack will set you back £29.99 on Amazon, with delivery expected around November 5th. Fallout 4 arrives five days later, meaning you should have the perfect brew ready for your inaugural adventure in Boston. Bethesda describes it as a "pilsner lager, with a refreshing zesty hoppy taste and a floral aroma" -- we'll let you decide if that's better than an ice-cold Nuka-Cola.

  • Playdate: Surviving the apocalypse in 'Wasteland 2: Director's Cut'

Fallout 4 isn't the only post-apocalyptic role-playing game out this fall. Nope. Also out is a sequel to the game that's pretty much directly responsible for Bethesda's dark vision of the future, Wasteland 2: Director's Cut. The PC version of the game released last year, but a console port featuring a number of new additions including new voice overs and a wealth of new recorded dialogue. If XCOM: Enemy Unknown left an isometric, action-point itch that you haven't scratched in awhile, this might be your ticket on PlayStation 4. Join Sean Buckley and myself at 6PM Eastern / 3PM Pacific as we try to survive the cruel environment for two hours either here on this post, the Engadget Gaming homepage or Twitch.tv/joystiq if you'd like to chat with us.

  • 'Fallout 4' live-action trailer brings the wasteland to life

With less than a month to go until Fallout 4's November 10th release, Bethesda has debuted a new live-action trailer to whet your appetite for some post-apcocalyptic wandering. Fallout 4 will feature the series' most in-depth character creation yet, Bethesda said earlier this year, and it'll sport a new dynamic dialog system that actually lets you walk away from dull conversations. The blend of real-world environments with Fallout models works really well for the trailer. Really, though, it just makes us long for the days when actual game environments can look that good. We'll get there, someday.

  • $30 'Fallout 4' season pass guarantees all add-on packs

A real-life Pip-Boy might be painfully out of reach, but Fallout 4 developer Bethesda has something else that might make up for it: a season pass for add-on content that actually sounds like a hellacious deal. Bethesda admits that it doesn't even know what future packs will look like, but says that they'll start hitting early next year. Thirty bucks for "all of the DLC we [Bethesda] ever do" sounds like a great idea, though. Almost every piece of post-launch content for Fallout 3 fundamentally changed how the game played in pretty significant ways, be it turning the role-playing game into an objective-based affair with "Operation: Anchorage," a survival horror romp in "Point Lookout" or "Mothership Zeta's" corridor-shooter sensibilities, so there's precedent for some neat stuff coming down the pike.

  • 'Fallout 4' won't support user mods this fall

One of the biggest surprises from E3 this year was that Fallout 4 would support user mods across PC and Xbox One. That's still in the cards, but it definitely won't happen at launch. Of course, that's because the tools that'd allow you to, say, replace the game's fearsome bear-like enemies the Yao Guai with 3D models of Yogi the Bear don't exist yet according to IGN. Publisher Bethesda Softworks' vice president of marketing Pete Hines says that the team's focus is on making sure the game ships on time. "Our entire focus is on finishing the game," he said. "Nobody cares about mods if the game sucks." Concise! Once Fallout 4 proper is done (and the team likely takes a bit of a break), work on The Creation Kit will begin; it'll take "clearly into next year," according to Hines.

  • Sorry, Bethesda can't make any more 'Fallout 4' Pip-Boys

The special edition of Fallout 4 comes with a pretty spectacular piece of swag: a real-life Pip-Boy that works with your smartphone. Understandably, the $120 bundle sold out almost as soon as it went on sale, but as much as the game's publisher wanted more of your cash, it's admitted that it simply can't make any more. Bethesda's Pete Hines has told GameSpot that the factories that produced the device were working at full-tilt, but simply couldn't fit more manufacturing runs into their production schedules.

  • These were E3 2015's best games

E3 is (thankfully) over, and that means the press that cover the event have recently cast their votes for what they thought were the best games from the show. You know those blurbs on box art saying "winner of over 90 awards" and the like? This is partly where they come from. Collectively known as The Game Critics Awards, the governing body for them is made up of staff from over 30 editorial outlets, including Engadget, that attended gaming's Paris Fashion Week. For a game to even be up for consideration though, it has to be playable -- a stage demo or non-interactive trailer won't cut it. What's it mean for you? In the end, a better idea about what it's like to actually play the biggest games from E3, because we got to go hands-on with them. Without further ado, the winners are in the gallery below. Spoiler: Fallout 4 was pretty successful.

  • The iPhone 6 Plus won't fit Fallout 4's Pip-Boy (and I'm sad)

Thanks a lot, Bethesda. After the outfit's first E3 media briefing, I pre-ordered the Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4 because of course I want to put a real-life version of the game's stat-tracker and menu system on my forearm. All good, right? Well, I'm also in the market for a new phone and was eyeing an iPhone 6 Plus because it has a better camera and battery life compared to its smaller sibling, the iPhone 6. That's where the problems arise: Bethesda recently announced that the real-world Pip-Boy comes with foam inserts that fit the iPhone 4 and 4s, 5 and 5s and the 6 in addition to the Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5. The company also promises a customizable foam insert that'll accommodate "most other popular" handsets.

I don't know about you, but I've wanted a Pip-Boy of my own since I first played Fallout 3. With the Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4, I'll finally be able to make that happen with a real-life wrist-bound stat-tracker and menu system. The wearable (I use that term lightly) comes with a companion app that'll be available on Android and iOS, too. The mobile love doesn't stop there either, because tonight Bethesda is releasing Fallout Shelter, an app that lets you design your own shelter in the game, tonight on iOS. Are your bathroom breaks ready?

Fallout 4 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 10th. Bethesda revealed Fallout 4 earlier this month with a teaser site and a trailer full of brighter colors and a friendly dog companion. Plus: The robot butler of your dreams. The Fallout team has been working on 4 since the launch of Fallout 3 in 2009, Bethesda announced on-stage today. Fallout 4 includes the series' most in-depth character-customization process and it showcases a dynamic dialogue system that lets you "walk away at any point." Also new in Fallout 4, there's a crafting system. Players can create their own settlements -- build power stations to run turrets and other fancy, electrical fortress elements. In addition, the weapon-modding system is robust, with 50 base weapons and more than 700 modifications, plus a separate UI for the power armor.

When the Fallout 4 trailer dropped on the world last week, irradiating ravenous explorers anxious to return to the series' wastes with fresh hope, it drove something home: Fallout 3 was awesome. Has it really been seven years since Bethesda reimagined the post-apocalyptic satire as a modern, first-person adventure? Has it been so long since Liam Neeson raised us in a post-nuclear war underground vault? Most importantly: does it still hold up? In order to answer that final question, we're streaming Fallout 3 today at 3:30PM ET/12:30PM PT.

Fallout 4 is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and so far, this is what it looks like. First, the rumors are true: Fallout 4 is set in Boston, as demonstrated by scenes from an alternate-universe Scollay Square, the real-life Boston city center established in 1838 and demolished in 1962, plus other landmarks in the video. Second: That voice you hear is definitely series narrator Ron Perlman. Bethesda's 24-hour Fallout 4 teaser site hit zero this morning, revealing a trailer and pre-order links, plus a nudge to tune into the company's presentation at E3 on June 14th. The teaser site also went live a tad early, letting the world peek platform details and a few screenshots ahead of the actual announcement. Watch the first Fallout 4 trailer below.

Excited about Fallout 4? Well, cool it, because that's not necessarily a real thing. You're forgiven if you thought it was, and not just because we love you: rumors swirled about the supposed game for months. While at least one of them was true -- and yes, Fallout 4 is assuredly a possibility -- some of the most widely reported rumors were total bullshit. And not just any ol' poop, but carefully crafted lies from a single man -- that's according to a profile piece by Kotaku's Jason Schreier. The alleged fake leaker also promulgated false rumors of Watch Dogs and Call of Duty, both of which were widely reported among gaming sites. It's a fascinating tale, and we suggest heading over to Kotaku for the full piece. [Image credit: Karin Dreyer, Getty Creative]
