Samsung's Odyssey Ark is notable for being the first dedicated 55-inch gaming monitor, but its software is half-baked and the screen is sometimes too overwhelming.

  • The 48-inch Bendable CSO display utilizes OLED’s advantages as its paper-thin screen bends and unfolds with a curvature radius of up to 1,000R, meaning that it can be made to bend up to a radius of 1,000mm without affecting the function of the display. It can therefore be turned into a flat screen while watching TV and used as a curved screen while gaming. The curved display offers a uniform viewing distance from the middle of the screen to its edge, maximizing the visual immersion that is popular among gamers.

In addition, the company’s CSO technology enables OLED displays to vibrate and make their own sound without the use of any speakers, offering a vivid sense of reality as if the on-screen characters were talking directly to the viewer. The 48-inch Bendable CSO display’s ultra slim film exciter, which is the part that vibrates the display, has been reduced to a thickness of just 0.6mm from 9mm and therefore allows viewers to enjoy a thinner screen as well as highly impressive sound.

LG has been releasing the 4K IPS gaming monitors it revealed before CES this year one by one, and the latest to become available for purchase is its 27-inch UltraGear model. In addition to having a 4K resolution and a Nano IPS panel, which is known for having better color and viewing angles compared to other LCD technologies, the model (27GN950) also has a 1 millisecond gray-to-gray pixel response time. The company touts the model as the “world’s first 4K IPS 1ms GtG monitor,” since the 1ms GtG model it succeeds doesn’t have 4K resolution.

Finnish company Eve focuses on crowd-developed products, taking input from gamers and power users to shape hardware designs. In 2017 the Eve V, a convertible tablet similar to the Microsoft Surface, was a strong effort -- it packed more RAM than similarly-priced Surface tablets and had a sharper screen than most competitors. This year, the company hopes to bring three gaming monitors to market. The Spectrum series is meant to deliver the high-end performance that gamers, designers and engineers look for in a monitor by gathering and implementing feedback directly from the Eve community. While they aren't scheduled to ship until much later later in the year, all three models are now up for pre-order.

Electronics manufacturers love to claim their product is entirely without precedent, but this 27-inch Samsung monitor has good reason to crow about its (relative) uniqueness. It's the first the second LCD to tout a blink-and-you'll-miss-it 1ms response time, halving the previous best in this category of 2ms. It's dubious whether you'll notice the difference in casual use, but that growing class of professional gamers will probably appreciate the extra, barely perceivable, responsiveness. Then again, those same pros might be slightly put off by the lack of stand adjustment and Samsung's Touch of Color enclosure -- neither seem to fit in with the performance-oriented panel within. The spec sheet is filled out with standard fare such as 1920 x 1080 resolution, 300 nits of brightness, HDMI input, and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Should that sound like your perfect recipe, you'll be able to pick up the Samsung P2770FH later this month for $400. Update: Viewsonic kindly reminded us that its own VX2739wm 27-inch panel beat this Sammy to market with a 1ms response time back in May.

Just a hunch here, but we're guessing that Alienware's CES stash all hit the production line at right about the same time. During the past day, we've seen the company's M15x, M17x and OptX AW2310 hit the shipping stage, the latter of which is the firm's first-ever 3D monitor. Checking in at 23-inches and boasting a full 1080p panel, this one also packs a 3 millisecond response time, 120Hz refresh rate and stereoscopic support when NVIDIA's GeForce 3D Vision Kit is utilized. It's up for order right now at $469, but if you follow that Logicbuy link down there, you'll be able to snag it (for a limited time) for $449.10. Too bad that 3D kit will set you back another $200, but hey, no one said that witnessing the third dimension was cheap. Or remotely interesting. But mostly cheap. %Gallery-84259%

  • LG uses Aion to advertise new gaming monitor

We've given Aion: The Tower of Eternity a lot of coverage over the last couple of months but you know a game is going to be big when it appears on TV. After all, just look at the star-studded World of Warcraft adverts which have been doing the rounds around the world for the last year. Now Korean electronics firm LG are using the game to advertise their latest widescreen gaming monitor, the W2363V, and if it doesn't make want to play even more, then it might make you want to buy the monitor. The rather epic advert features in-game and CG footage and was released on NCsoft's official YouTube Channel last night. Touting the W2363V as the 'secret item' which will enable players to 'beat the game' (a bit of a misnomer for an MMO), the advert is suitably fantastical in feel and score. However there's no information on the monitor's release date or price, only that the advert will be shown worldwide. Hit the jump to check out the video in all its HD glory and you might want to think about raiding your piggy bank too.
