Retro City Rampage, Vblank Entertainment's insanely in-depth 8-bit parody of classic open-world action tropes, is out now for PC, PS3 and Vita. It's 10 percent off on Steam through October 16 ($13.50). Go get some.

They may technically be considered "Activision" games, as that company currently has the rights to all of them, but the new GOG offers include what you'd think of as Sierra games (Gabriel Knight, Space Quest, Phantasmagoria) Infocom games (The Zork Anthology) and ... oh, Activision games (Interstate '76).They're all on sale for 60% off this weekend. You can get the whole bundle for $94.89, if you like ... massive, thematically incomprehensible collections.

Carmageddon Max Pack has recklessly careened into GOG.com, and is now available for download. If you happened to support the Carmageddon Reincarnation Kickstarter campaign, Stainless will distribute your code for this classic car combat game. If you didn't, you can just buy it for $9.99.GOG promoted it in an unusual way (which, for GOG, is not itself unusual), with team members decrying its "pointless violence" in the trailer above. "It's not even a racing game!" Now there's a glowing endorsement.

Okay let's see, I've got a map of the basement, two spools of thread, a key with a skull on it and four packs of gummi fruit snacks in the inventory. Something in here has to let me turn on the computer so I can write an article about GoG's 50 percent off sale on adventure games. Maybe the fruit snacks?"You can't use that here."Damn it, like there's ever a time when you can't eat fruit snacks. There's got to be something in this room that I haven't clicked on yet; I can't get the codec to decipher the diary unless I write a post about how Resonance, Botanicula, Machinarium, The Whispered World and the Blackwell Bundle are all on sale for the next three days or so. Maybe I can click on the power outlet?Bzzzzt ... thud.

CD Projekt Red is working on something new in partnership with GOG.com, who had been traditionally much more apt at handling older things. And with the stream taking place over on the latter, that blip about The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf from earlier today seems like another candidate for an announcement tomorrow. The plot thickens. The livestream takes place tomorrow at 1pm ET. To see the rest of Rayban's centerfold, you'll need to grab the hoverboard and cruise past the break.

"As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master" – Commissioner Pravin Lal ... and there's never been a game quite like Alpha Centauri since. This weekend, GOG has Alpha Centauri, Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2, SimCity 2000 and Populous 1 and 2 for $3 apiece. If dated graphics don't bother you, we expect you to be done extracting the fun out of these games sometime in 2015.

GOG.com, purveyor of fine vintage software (and, recently, more modern fare), has added a trio of games to its DRM-free service, including Thief: Deadly Shadows.Developed by Ion Storm Inc., the third installment in the celebrated stealth series sees master thief Garrett embroiled in a terrible prophecy. The only means of escape lies in unrestrained pickpocketing, merciless guard-clubbing and at least one jaunt through a place so scary, you'll Alt-Tab out of the game and look for reprieve on Reddit.Oh, and two more: You may now possess Ubisoft's, Tom Clancy's, Clint Hocking's Splinter Cell; and Anomaly: Warzone Earth, the reverse tower defense game that was most recently ported to Xbox Live Arcade. All three games are available for $9.99 each.

  • GOG gifts bonuses to miffed Botanicula pre-orderers

    04.22.2012

GOG's pre-order deal for Botanicula, getting the game for a dollar less than the post-launch retail price, seemed like a pretty legit bargain for Amanita Design's floral adventure. That is, until The Humble Botanicula Debut Bundle showed up, offering Botanicula, Machinarium and Samorost 2 for any amount of money you wanted.Naturally, some folks that had pre-ordered Botanicula from GOG felt slighted, as they'd paid (nearly) full price for a game that almost immediately made available for close to zero dollars, in a bundle that also included two other games."This left an unsurprisingly sour taste in some gamers' mouths, and we were just as surprised by the launch of the Humble Botanicula Debut as anyone else was," reads GOG's olive branch. To make things right, anyone who purchased Botanicula from GOG prior to 12:00 GMT on April 20 will receive a free copy of Machinarium, as well as links to download "the full soundtrack and a special artbook of Botanicula designs and character sketches."Additionally, everyone entitled to the above rewards will also receive a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut. Goodies are expected to begin arriving sometime tomorrow.
