Martial-art fantasy giant robot MMO (yes, that's the genre) Titan Online is in their open beta phase and they're about to unveil their cash shop and all of the goodies contained within to their players, but they're not going to let anyone buy anything. Not just yet, at least. They aren't letting any user purchase their in-game currency, T-Cash, but they are opening the item shop on June 1st.So how are you suppose to get the items in the cash shop then? Why you need to win them via an event, of course! Titan Online will be throwing an special event in for the unveiling of the cash shop where players of all levels will be able to win some of the items contained within. They're also letting players win some T-Cash in advance by uploading their fan made movies onto YouTube. It's certainly an interesting way to open a standard feature of free-to-play MMOs, and hopefully it will be a bunch of fun for everyone involved. Plus, who can argue with free stuff?

Adventurers of Vana'diel, you only have six more days to throw your gil at the popular virtual lottery, Mog Bonanza! Yes, that's right, the Mogs are once again offering up fabulous prizes for anyone willing to purchase a few lottery marbles! This year's grand prize of gil has changed, however, from a flat rate prize to a percentage of the proceeds generated from marble sales. For example, rank 1's gil prize will be half of the proceeds from marble sales divided equally amongst all of the people who won the grand prize and chose gil as their payout.Otherwise, the contest has remained pretty much as is, with items like the Kraken Club and Novio Earring making appearances once again on the grand prize list. Even if you don't match all six digits, there are still plenty of lucrative prizes to leap at, making purchasing marbles totally worth it.Marbles are 2000 gil a pick and can be purchased from Bonanza Moogles stationed at all of the ports of the capital cities and the Chocobo Circuit.

It's been seven eventful years since chocobos and moogles have invaded MMOs, and Final Fantasy XI is still going strong as they celebrate another anniversary with their player base. Of course, any intrepid adventurer knows what the Adventurer Appreciation holiday is all about. It's not that the moogles come out and give away free items or how they recount many insane statistics to you, like how many times you've talked to NPCs. No, it's not about any of that. It's about getting your Anniversary Ring to boost experience gain again! Wooooo hooooo!*Ahem* Excuse me. It's more than just getting a massive experience boost. Especially this year, with the rumor of ancient and powerful Mog Tablets resurfacing across all of Vana'diel. Who knows what's truly in store for this year's event, but it's certain to be worth your while! The campaign will start with the appearance of moogles in the city squares on May 12th and will end on May 25th.Remember, if you still have your ring from last year, use your charges before getting a new one! You can't get a new one, until you throw your old one away!

It's springtime! The birds are in the air, the flowers are in bloom, and crazy armor stealing brigands are back in Vana'diel. That means the moogles are once again handing out swords and imbuing them with moogle magic to fight back the malice of the brigands. It's the Feast of Swords!Participating in this event is pretty easy, but it's recommended you bring a class that has a high amount of hit points and include white mage as your subjob. Simply visit a moogle at any one of the major FFXI cities and pick up your magical sword. Be careful though, as you'll be brought down to a level restriction of 1, but no monsters will be interested in attacking you. You will also have the benefit of enhanced movement speed, so you can track down those armors.Taking down one of the magical armors will allow you to trade your sword in for some neat event prizes, like food that turns you into a kid, medals that teleport you to a city's chocobo stables, or even one of the special yearly swords. But participate soon! This event is being sheathed come May 12th.

  • Land of Magic opens English server, offers double drop rates and double exp bonuses

Old school 2-D MMO Land of Magic has just recently made the jump from Korean only to Korean and English, and they're celebrating with two awesome bonuses -- double experience and double item drop rates!Knowing for lightning fast leveling and a never ending amount of things to do, Land of Magic is an older MMO that has graphics in the vein of Ultima Online. Players can level their way all the way up to level 400 and beyond by using a creative "rebirth" system. This allows players to level as one profession, then switch over to a new profession and keep some of the abilities of their old one. In addition, each time you rebirth your character back down to level 1, the maximum level you can achieve increases by 2. Thus, if you rebirth once, your new maximum level is 402. Rebirthing also opens up new professions, such as the Necromancer and Demon King.Should you truly have tons of time on your hands, characters who can rebirth all the way to level 900 get to become demi-gods. Literally, a demi-god.Their celebration will be continuing until May 3rd and the game is free to play, so if you should have some extra time on your hands (or lots of time on your hands) go on over and see what's up with this new Korean MMO.

Listen up, soldiers! We're going to post this once and only once, so I want all eyes and ears on this blog post! Do you get me!?*Waits to hear the chorus of "We get you, sir!" coming from the computer monitor.*We have gotten word from AFS High Command that the Bane are preparing for an all out attack against the Allied Free Sentients in Tabula Rasa. This will be the single largest troop movement that the battlefields have seen to date. This is why all soldiers are being asked to fortify all AFS bases in preparation of an attack on Saturday at 8 PM GMT for the Centarus (EU) server and again at 8 PM CST for the Hydra server. These attacks will be lead by the infamous Neph, cousin race to the benevolent Eloh. Neph are the most intelligent commanders that the Bane has to throw against us, but we will fight them back! The attacks are expected to last until midnight GMT and midnight CST. If we are unsuccessful with our defense, and should we be overrun, then we will make sure that their victory will cost them everything! The Penumbra Division has been ordered to ready the last resort weapon and only fire it should we still be under attack at midnight. If we're going down, we're taking them, and the server, with us!Hoo-rah, soldiers!

  • Love is in the air as the Night of Murder goes live in Warhammer

    02.06.2009

Last week we brought you the news that the Night of Murder would be the precursor event to the ambitious Call to Arms live expansion to Warhammer Online. As February 14th inches ever closer (remember, your leveling partner might like a gift or two), the developers have pushed the first of these in-game events live to the servers. To accompany the new event, the Herald has a brand-new Grab Bag of bountiful information for you to sink your teeth into. Some highlights: All tasks for the event are unlocked from the get-go. No need to wait to get into the thick of it. Roughly 2 out of every 10 players will be marked, so there should be plenty of death to go around. Additionally, all keep lords are marked. Credit for marked kills goes to the group that killed the marked player; keep lords slain during the event bestow credit to everyone involved in taking out the keep. Rewards for the event include: a special title, a unique Night of Murder trophy, and at the top tier a unique trinket that will give you +5% renown when you're participating in RvR. That last item has a level 35 item restriction placed on it. For the full story, make sure to check out our interview with Jeff Hickman about the event, the official event page on the WAR site, and the full Grab Bag about the Night of Murder. Mythic has announced the first expansion to Warhammer Online! Check out the announcement itself, the two brand-new classes coming to the game, and the enormous new dungeon/zone slated for a few months away! • Vanguard celebrates its second anniversary, game update

We were just recently talking about how much Vanguard: Saga of Heroes has improved over the years. Make that, as of this week, two years exactly as the MMO celebrates its anniversary with an in-game event. The actual birthday was on the 30th of January, but we're not going to quibble. While you missed the first night of festivities last night, tomorrow night there's a whole 'nother round for weekend warriors. They're giving out cake and fireworks for free, along with the chance to meet some of the well-known CMs and developers in-game. This week also saw the release of a brand-new update to the game. Unlike the massive Game Updates that have given Vanguard players so much in the way of new content, this is just a bug-fixing backend sort of thing. Highlights include a handful of new quests, some fixes to the appearace slot and general appearance systems, a few class tweaks, and some general housekeeping. Our favorite patch note: "The waters around the towers of BOD are now shark infested. Beware those who like to skinny dipping."

  • Warhammer Online patch 1.1.1 drops onto the live servers today

    02.03.2009

Just a week after the announcement of the ambitious Call to Arms expansion for Warhammer Online, the first in a series of live events drops onto the game servers. Today sees the release of the 1.1.1 patch to WAR, bringing with it the sinister Night of Murder Valentine's Day event. This macabre outing (traditionally associated with the Witch Elf class) will give a poisonous new meaning to this traditionally saccharine-sweet holiday. Check out a snippet from our interview with Mythic's Jeff Hickman to get a sense of what you'll be doing for the next week.Other features of the 1.1.1 patch include the addition of new flight points throughout the game world, brand new quests from Keep Lords, and the launch of Warhammer Online in Russia. The Open RvR changes in particular are outstanding, continuing to build on the influence system the company put in with the last few patches. Full patch details are available on the Warhammer Herald site. Mythic has announced the first expansion to Warhammer Online! • Valentine's Day in Warhammer Online announced as the Night of Murder

    by

    01.29.2009

Alongside the announcement of the Call to Arms expansion, the Bitter Rivals event introducing the Choppa and Slayer, and the Lands of the Dead mega-zone, Jeff Hickman revealed to us earlier this week that Valentine's Day will be a scream in Warhammer Online. Tying into the recent 'bloody valentines' sent to bloggers, Jeff walks us through the Night of Murder.Warhammer Executive Producer Jeff Hickman: We have a new event coming out soon, it's our Valentine's Day event. Starting in Mid-February it begins before call to arms, but we've been planning this event for some time. It really highlights some of the things we're trying to do with live events that are different and unique. It's an event that happens in the IP called "The Night of Murder." We felt that was appropriate for Valentine's Day.The Night of Murder is this great week-long event, very RvR-centered. As a player I can go get a murder quest, where I will be asked to go assassinate five marked targets. We've put some interesting tech in that causes enemy players to be marked. They're literally marked on the battlefield, a big skull hovers over their heads. The players don't know that they're marked, though, so you get to the battlefield and you see your opponents arrayed against you ... and they don't know who you'll be going for. Unbeknownst to you, you might be targeted as well. So it will be pretty exciting. Some of these marked targets, when you loot them, they'll drop a skull. One of the tasks for the Night of Murder is to play a game of skull tossing; literally on the battlefield there will be people tossing their dead enemy's skulls back and forth to each other. You'll see skulls flying around, all over the place. And in some rare cases when I kill a marked enemy target I'll be able to loot his head. When I loot that, it will give me the ability to send my enemy a special Valentine's Day surprise. A Night of Murder message about the trophy I got at his expense. It's clever, it's comical, but there are just a ton of cool new things we're doing with that event. Things we haven't done before. 12.15.2008

Kicking off tomorrow is another annual Life Day event, the Star Wars Galaxies version of the Christmas holiday. As we discussed earlier, while the holiday has always been based on the Star Wars Holiday Special this year is especially grounded in that ... unique ... television moment. The official SWG site has full details on the event now, showing off some of the questing and rewards that are available to holiday fans in that place a Long Time Ago. Rebels will be tasked with decorating trees, while Imperials will be stomping presents and goodies with abandon. Unaligned players can do either, but if you're declared for either faction you'll get a ton of 'Life Day currency' for participating. Sounds like PvP players will have something to celebrate as well. Turning in that Life Day currency will net you a ton of great holiday gear. Everything from a Pocket Aquarium or a Proton Chair to a personal Wroshyr Tree. Head over to the official site for the details.

    12.10.2008

We just finished a big pre-1.1 interview with some of the Warhammer Online developers, and we'll have a full writeup of that conversation available soon. We wanted to let you know right away, though, that details on the next big live event in Warhammer will be coming very soon. Josh Drescher, speaking with us alongside Adam Gershowitz and members of the RvR team, let us know that we'll be getting full details on the Keg's End live event as of this Friday. Additionally, the much-anticipated 1.1 patch will be jumping from the test to the live servers 'very, very soon'. According to the developers, always in good spirits, they're "spellchecking the patch notes" right now. That's an indication that we'll be seeing things like the new open RvR influence system on the live servers probably within the next week or so. They're hopeful it will make it out there this week, but made no promises. For video of Paul's Barnett's off-the-cuff introduction to the Keg's End event, read on below the cut.

There's just a week left to enjoy the latest wacky, elaborate holiday event in World of Warcraft! The second annual Brewfest offers some changes and tweaks to the fun from last year, and WoW Insider has all the details you'll need to make the most of this holiday. Looking to earn yourself a seasonal mount? Looking to join the beer o' the month club? Head over to IronForge or Orgrimmar, but not until you read through everything Massively's sister site has to say on the subject. Cheers! Tips for Brewfest keg runsBrewfest is in full swing, and there's on aspect that most participants dread: Keg running. It's not terribly hard once you know how it goes, but figuring it out can be a real pain. Let's see if we can ease the learning process, shall we? Tips for taking down Coren DirebrewI ran Direbrew with a full group twice over the weekend, and it's not too bad -- as long as you can five four other people, all "with summons" (which just means, I had to learn, that they haven't done the quest yet that day, so Direbrew will appear in BRD), it's a fairly easy fight. Planning for the Brewmaster title in advanceA lot of people are understandably upset that the Brewfest mounts are now boss drops instead of buyable items. I've heard from no small number of folks who saved their Brewfest tickets from last year's event in order to purchase the mount with less hassle this year, only to discover that -- oops -- that wasn't in the cards. One of Azeroth's millions of citizens? Check out our ongoing coverage of the World of Warcraft, and be sure to touch base with our sister site WoW Insider for all your Lich King needs!

If you have nothing else to do you could run your lower-level alts around the world to collect all the different bonfire flames for some pretty decent experience gains. If you are struggling on what to spend your burning blossoms on WoW Insider has you covered. A lot of players are saying this is the best event in a long time, thanks to some new festivities. You better celebrate the good times before its too late and back to the dailies routine again!

The 2008 edition of the annual Guild Wars Dragon Festival is set to kick off starting next Thursday, July 3rd. The events, prizes, and loot drops are set to run through the evening of Sunday, July 6th PST. Every year the Canthans (the culture from Guild Wars: Factions) celebrates a festival of fireworks, mini-games, and fantastic prizes. Every year the Canthans hand out a terrifying Demon mask, and this is your chance to win the 2008 variety. You can catch it on the right, on a fearsome warrior's visage. How do you get that mask? Glad you asked! Victory tokens are available for successfully completing the aforementioned mini-games, and you'll need 250 of those bad boys in order to claim the mask. Head over to the Shing Jea Boardwalk to play the games, try out the new missions (new ones every day), and be sure to be there on the final day of the Festival for Emperor Kisu's proclamation and mask distribution. Happy Dragon Fest!
