As if there weren't enough ways to order takeout in London, Amazon has jumped in with a Deliveroo-style competitor. If you live in the English capital and subscribe to Prime, you'll soon see a postcode option inside the Prime Now app. Chuck it in and -- provided you're in a supported neighbourhood -- you'll get a list of cafes and restaurants that are available for delivery. Amazon promises to complete each order in under an hour; in the US, the average drop-off takes less than 45 minutes, it claims.

After spending the past year expanding its super-fast delivery service across England, Amazon's finally taking Prime Now north of the border. The online retail giant announced today that it has begun offering one-hour deliveries on over 15,000 products to Prime subscribers in Glasgow, as well as free two-hour deliveries in Motherwell, Kilmarnock and Cumbernauld. Although Glasgow is Scotland's first Prime Now city, Glaswegians, along with customers in Edinburgh have enjoyed Amazon's Prime Same Day service since November 2015. To mark the occasion, Amazon is offering £5 off everyone's first Prime Now order with the code PRIMENOW5 and it'll also throw in a 2-litre bottle of Irn-Bru Sugar Free. We've checked with Amazon UK's Stereotype Dept. and there's currently no word on whether battered Mars bars and haggis will also be included.

Paris fears Amazon Prime Now will 'destabilize' its economy

Amazon has brought its one-hour grocery delivery service to Paris, and the city isn't thrilled. Prime Now is available to Premium subscribers who pay €49 per year (Prime is called "Premium" in France) with free two-hour deliveries and €6 for one-hour shipping. Besides groceries, the company will ship "thousands" of other products like Kindles and electronics. However, it's the food deliveries that have Paris and its mayor, Anne Hidalgo, most upset. "This service could seriously destabilize the retail balance in Paris," she says.

Over time, Amazon has widened the availability of Prime Now to cover a number of major UK cities. One-hour deliveries are happening in London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester, but now the company has turned its focus to one of the most populated counties in the south east: Surrey. From today, customers in Camberley, Lightwater and Aldershot can grab a one-hour slot for £6.99 or choose to wait an additional hour to get their order delivered for free.

After launching one-hour Prime Now deliveries in London last summer, Amazon brought the option to Birmingham, Newcastle and Manchester before year's end. The retailer has grand plans to take the convenience to "many more cities in 2016," today announcing Liverpool and nearby areas as the latest expansion. Customers living in eligible postcodes in Liverpool and adjacent settlements including Birkenhead can now pay £7 to have any of over 15,000 products delivered within one hour, or select a same-day, two-hour window for free.

With Christmas less than two weeks away, Amazon wants to be there for UK customers who are likely to leave their festive shopping until the very last minute. After its recent expansion in Newcastle, the online retailer has rolled out its Prime Now service in Manchester and surrounding areas, allowing Prime subscribers to get one-hour deliveries for £6.99 or two-hour shipments for no extra cost.

For those of us who like to procrastinate, Amazon added 4,000 items to its Prime Now delivery service for the holiday rush. In addition to its selection of food items and household goods, the one-hour delivery option will now drop off baking supplies, wrapping paper and a smattering of last-minute gifts ranging from electronics to toys. Starting today, Prime Now customers in Manhattan can order beer, wine and spirits, just in case you show up to your office party empty handed. The one-hour delivery will cost you $8, but if you can wait another 60 minutes, there's no extra charge.

Just a day after it expanded its same-day delivery service to more of the UK, Amazon has added another big city to its list of Prime Now locations: Newcastle. The Northern city joins London and Birmingham in offering Prime customers one-hour deliveries, allowing locals order up to 15,000 products including electronics, food and possible Christmas for £6.99 or for free if they're willing to wait two hours. Amazon says selected postcodes in Gateshead, Durham and Sunderland are now eligible, but you should probably check Amazon's delivery checker first before filling your online basket.

In its bid to get more products to customers quicker, Amazon UK has today added another delivery option for customers. Prime Same Day offers (you guessed it) same-day delivery on one million products, as long as you're already signed up to the company's £79 annual membership. Unlike Prime Now, which costs £6.99 and gets your items to you within an hour, Amazon's new shipping option is free.

  • Amazon to deliver 'Call of Duty' at midnight on release day in 20 cities

Grabbing a physical copy of a new game on day one usually means either braving an in-store midnight event or waiting through the day for a package delivery. In the case of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Amazon has an alternative: midnight delivery straight to your door, at no extra charge. In 20 metropolitan areas (Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Manhattan, Miami, Minneapolis, Orange County, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Antonio, San Francisco, San Jose, and Seattle) it promises to drop the game off -- along with any snacks you might order -- within a two hour window on November 6th through its Prime Now same day delivery service.

Amazon continues to expand its Prime Now one-hour deliveries. The online retailer has announced that the service is now available in San Jose, San Francisco and other places around the Bay Area, including Mountain View and Cupertino -- Google and Apple's home, respectively. Prime Now's also hitting San Antonio, which joins Austin, Dallas and, most recently, Houston as the Texan cities where Amazon's ultra-fast delivery offering is live. In case you're not familiar with Now, it lets Prime members receive select orders in less than 60 minutes for a $7.99 fee, with an app that's available for iOS, Android and Kindle devices. Or, if you're not in a rush to get the items, they can be at your doorstep in about two hours free of charge.

When Amazon first brought Prime Now deliveries to the UK, only a select number of London postcodes were covered by the service. In three months, the company has expanded to Birmingham, foreshadowing the launch of Amazon Fresh, but now it's giving its launch city some extra love after opening a new delivery depot in Wimbledon. From today, Prime customers in Merton, Wandsworth and Sutton can take use the Prime Now app to book a one-hour delivery. Users in Kingston, Sunbury and Croydon can now also enjoy free two-hour deliveries for the first time.

While we've known for a while that Amazon is looking to bring something similar to its "Fresh" grocery delivery service to the UK, details regarding its launch plans have been scarce -- at least until this week. Retail Week reports that the company has quiet begun offering around 50 chilled products to selected customers in Birmingham in what appears to be a small test ahead of a nationwide rollout. Amazon introduced its same-day service in the US last year and it was believed London would play host as its first UK region. It won't be long until customers can arrange deliveries in the capital, however, as the retailer has earmarked the city for its next expansion in the coming weeks.

  • Amazon Flex is really an Uber for high-speed deliveries

When word got out about Amazon Flex, it wasn't clear exactly how it worked. Was it a pick-it-up-yourself service? Not really, as it turns out. The online retailer has finally taken the wraps off of Flex, and it's ultimately an Uber-like service that has on-demand contractors delivering your Prime Now orders. Like with ridesharing, couriers have to bring their own car and install an app on their phone that notifies them of gigs -- the difference, of course, is that they're transporting packages instead of people. Recruits make between $18 to $25 per hour, and they can work as much as they want.

  • Amazon Prime Now includes delivery from local restaurants in Seattle

Seattle may have received the invite to Prime Now's one-hour delivery service a bit late, but Amazon is offering customers there another feature: restaurant delivery. The service can bring you food from participating restaurants, so long as you're situated inside a part of the city where it's available. Via the Prime Now website, folks in Seattle can input their zip code to see if they'll be able to have food delivered in a hour or less. Through the Prime Now mobile app, hungry customers can also browse the list of available restaurants and peruse menus before placing an order. This isn't the first time Amazon has tackled restaurant delivery, though, as the retailer tested dropping off takeout through Amazon Local last year. If you're looking to give the new option a go, you'll be able to pay for meals using your data stored on Amazon and the company is waiving the delivery fees "for a limited time." You'd think that Amazon would have been quick to offer its super-fast Prime Now delivery service in its home territory of Seattle, but nope -- it's just getting around to correcting that seeming oversight. The company has confirmed part of a recent scoop by launching Prime Now in both Seattle as well as nearby locales like Bellevue, Kirkland and Redmond (hi, Microsoft!). As before, how much you spend depends on just how urgently you need your order. It's free (outside of your Prime subscription, of course) if you can afford to wait up to two hours, while one-hour shipping will cost you $8. The expansion still leaves much of the US without Prime Now, but this is still a big step toward covering America's larger urban hubs. Update: It's important to note that this also marks Amazon's return to delivering alcohol -- you can get wine and other tipsy drinks through Prime Now.

  • Amazon's latest service test has you picking up orders

Amazon has jumped through hoops trying to speed up deliveries, but wouldn't it sometimes make sense to eliminate the last-mile shipping altogether and pick up orders yourself? That might just happen. GeekWire has discovered that Amazon is trying out a new service, Flex, that has you collecting your package from a facility. It's much like a visit to a government office, or Amazon's Purdue pickup spot -- you take a ticket and wait for your turn. The company isn't commenting on Flex (even the test building in Seattle is still in rough shape), but it's safe to say that this would be limited to areas where Amazon can set up distribution centers.

  • Amazon expands Prime Now one-hour deliveries to Birmingham

Londoners have been taking advantage of Amazon's Prime Now one-hour delivery service for a little over a month now, and it's time to afford others the same convenience. Today, Amazon has launched the speedy one-hour delivery option in Birmingham and surrounding areas, including Lichfield, Cannock and Tamworth. Expanding to other UK cities by the end of the year, Prime Now offers delivery on over 20,000 products within an hour for a £7 charge, or free same-day delivery within a two-hour window of your choice. You have to be an Amazon Prime member, of course, and all orders need to be placed through the Prime Now Android/iOS app -- and to grease the wheels a little, Amazon is offering £20 off your first Prime Now order of £50 or above with the checkout code BIRMINGHAM. If you recall, Amazon's rumoured to be bringing its Prime Fresh grocery-delivery service to London in the very near future, and considering today's launch, perhaps we already know where that would be headed next.

  • Amazon's one-hour delivery is now available in all of Manhattan

Live or work in Manhattan? You now have an all-too-tempting way to impulse shop online. Amazon has confirmed to Mashable that its Prime Now delivery service is now available across the whole of the New York City borough, rather than the tiny area of before. If you just have to get some soap right after a sweaty Central Park run and don't want to visit a store, you can. It'll still cost $8 for the one-hour option (it's free for two) on top of your Prime subscription, of course. The big question is whether or not Amazon can expand Prime Now beyond Manhattan in a timely fashion -- that super-fast shipping depends on having a distribution center close by, which isn't as likely in less densely populated areas.
