  • Around Azeroth: And it stoned me

Do any of you old-school Final Fantasy types remember the spell Break? It was supposed to inflict the status "Petrify" on your enemies, turning them to stone. But just like Blind, Confuse, Doom and Toad, it never seemed to work quite as well on opponents as it worked on your character. Bonaduce of <Swords for Hire> on Quel'dorei has discovered the root of the problem. It seems that status-effect-inducing spells tend to jump through space and time to land in other games entirely. This particular petrification spell is hitting a dwarf in an Ironforge basement here in 2009, but it was really cast at a Veil Dancer in Zozo back in 1995. By me.Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! The team here at Massively have piled on the Aion coverage over the weekend, giving you a fairly in-depth look at this upcoming NCsoft title. While some feel this is just a shinier version of other games we've already seen ('Lineage 2 without as much PvP' is one we've heard quite a bit) others are really looking forward to the next beta test. That said, we have this lovely image sent in to us by Wade, who we can only assume is another writer not under NDA since he's sending images in to us. He explains what this image is about: Final group goodbye to Aion, after the dance party, just seconds before the world ended for the 1st North American beta previewIf you're in a beta not blocked by NDA (or aren't under NDA due to being a writer) we'd love to see your screenshots! Not in an open beta? No worries -- we love screenshots from all games! Just send them to us with a brief description of what we're seeing along with your name and the name of the game to oneshots AT massively DOT com. We'll post up your virtual postcard for everyone to enjoy and give you credit for sending it in. %Gallery-9798%

No, you cannot go out for a walkie right now. I know you have to take a widdle -- I know that all too well, considering you flooded half this cell last night when you were dreaming about the Stonewrought Dam. But we have to stay in here until the Random Number Generator pulls up your name to fight a group. Then we can both get out of here, you can utilize the restroom, and I can wait until the group kills you and then finally eat your succulent hell-beast flesh. What? Oh, I said that I can wait until the group pets you and eat a succulent piece of tofu. That's right. That's what I said.(Thanks to Kaandemiro of <Order of Shadows> on the Forgotten Coast, who managed to find humor in his accidental entrapment behind Lavanthor's cage portal in the Violet Hold. The major reason we started One Shots was to see what the community out there was playing. As a bonus, we occasionally get screens from other writers, which gives us an insight into what they're up to as well! Today's Darkfall One Shots comes to us from Paragus, Co-leader of Inquisition, and well-known ranty Darkfall blogger, who writes: The mercenary forces brace for the incoming Coalition mounted charge by making a makeshift wall out of their mounts. Immediately after this screenshot was taken, an 80 man bloodbath ensued that left the area littered with mounts, bodies, and of course loot! We're still on the lookout for more One Shots, so if you get a chance to snap a few, send some our way! We're looking for all games - from Aion (if you're not under NDA) to Zu Online, and everything in between. Just send them to us at oneshots AT massively DOT com with your name, the name of the game, and a brief description. Show off your favorite game(s)! %Gallery-9798%

Well! Our tips line has certainly been a beehive of activity with WWDC just around the corner. We've gotten several purported iPhone images, which range in quality from meh to ludicrous. Particularly interesting: the iPhone Blog's 16x9 widescreen model. As for availability of the rumored phone, GearLive is laying it on the line for an on-sale date of Monday, immediately after the announcement. Technologizer responds with four reasons we wouldn't see the new device in stores right after the keynote. Interested to see what everyone else has cooked up for Apple to release on Monday? For those who started their MMO love in EverQuest but have moved on, you may never have experienced the re-imagined spaces updating the world we remember, now residing in EverQuest II. That's why we're glad to see today's foreboding One Shots sent in to us by Jonathan C. He writes in: This shot is what one sees as one enters the "Deep Forge" instance, off Lavastorm in EverQuest II. The Overseer is there waiting for us to come take a crack at him. I just love the atmosphere of EQ2's "fire zones."We love to see screens from MMOs both big and small, but we need you to send them in! Guild Wars, for being several years old, still manages to inspire players to stop and capture images for One Shots. It really is an amazing case of art design - and we really can't wait to see Guild Wars 2, as we expect that timeless style to continue there. Today's image, however, is from Guild Wars player Max D, who writes in: Attached to this e-mail there's a Guild Wars screenshot. It represents a Melandru Shrine, deep within the lavish Maguuma Jungle found in the Prophecies campaign. Such shrines can be found throughout the entire game, but this one is truly an example of how gorgeous they can be. As the Guild Wars lore says: "Her statues attract weary travelers. Beneath her branches await plenty of fresh water and shelter from the elements."Have you found small and interesting details in your favorite game that just made things that much more enjoyable for you? Perhaps there are aspects of the worlds you adventure in that really make you stop and stare. We love all MMOs, so send in your screenshots to us at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, server, class, or whatever infomation you'd like to give us on yourself. Hey! You! Scarlet Crusade girl! Take a look over here. That's right. Look at what I did to your pal with my mighty wand. This small stick of cedar and glass will be the doom of all who inhabit this chapel. Look upon me and ... oh. That's kind of a big sword. A big, sharp sword. How can you even lift it? So anyway, I'm here to make a donation to your fine ministry. Would all my gold be sufficient? Okay, I'm just going to drop it on the floor and take off. I ... uh ... left my kitchen on fire. Have a nice day!(Thanks to Anthony for the screenshot! We haven't had many looks into this world as yet here on One Shots, which is a shame. The armor artwork and texturing is really quite interesting to look at! Not sure where this lone adventurer - Rayko Silverthorn of the guild Sacred, level 14 Trickster of High House Shroud - stands? He's exploring the world of The Chronicles of Spellborn, and writes in to tell us a bit more about the scene we're seeing - and why he likes The Chronicles of Spellborn. My first trip off of Parliament led me to Atheneum, home of The Consanguineous Vaults or just The Vaults. The ever increasingly difficult Vaults are were young adventurers go to hone their skills to become the heroes of tomorrow. This game features arguably the best combat system ever, The best way to handle death via Pep levels and a refreshing theme that breaks away from the oh so common style of fantasy MMORPGs.If you're traveling in a world we don't see often - or haven't really seen at all - then we want to see some screenshots from you! Just email them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a brief description - or your thoughts on why your favorite MMO is awesome! We'll post them out here and give you the nod for sending the image and note in.%Gallery-9798%

  • Around Azeroth: Mmm ... bacon

As we all know, bacon is the candy of meats, making everything a little better. Unfortunately, there's only one type of bacon in WoW -- the quest reward Hellfire Bacon. So our characters can only eat twenty pieces of bacon, ever, in their entire life. Luckily, Imika of <Enigma> on Windrunner has come up with a fine solution to this problem. When Horde members approach this feast, the ring of bombs around it will explode, searing both the ham and the intruder into light, crispy perfecton. Then a local rogue cuts thin slices of meat from their bellies and leaves it to hang, and voila! Not only do you have bacon, but you've got a decent supply of Fjord Fried Orc and Sentient Beef Liver for the next time you crave something unusual.Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We love to hear from players who gush about finding truly beautiful places in their favorite games. Of course, when you have a truly gorgeous game like Lord of the Rings Online, it's hard to find a place that isn't beautiful, really! Today's One Shots from Lewadin, of the kinship Redemption on the Snowbourn (EU) Lord of the Rings Online server is but one such lovely place. He writes in to tell us a bit more: I thought I'd share this picture with you, hoping it will get published. This is the High King's Crossing in Evendim, one of the most beautiful places in LOtrO. This great statue represents King Elendil and connects the island of Tinnudir, home of the Rangers, to the dark and dangerous Fornost. When you pass though that bridge for the first time your jaw will drop at how massive is the statue's size. Even if it's not the first time, you can't help but think how great the place looks! If you're in the mood to take some screenshots to tell people why your favorite game is so cool, we're in the mood to show them off! Just email them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game your image is from, and a description. Our anonymous submitter sent in this picture titled "Baddest Shammy Screenshot Ever!" and I've got to agree with him there. It's always nice when character screenshots end up looking like something that should be part of a cinematic. Anyway, he writes that this effect was caused by the use of Thunderstorm while Water Walking. Hmm. I'm sure that goes against National Weather Service recommendations. There are a vast array of costumes a person can create in Champions Online, but why would anyone want to be anything other than the majestic super Luchador? We ask you this in earnest: Could you knowing not create a superpowered practitioner of lucha libre? Certainly not, although there are other options beyond the inescapably amazing power of the mysterious masked liberator of the people. For instance, you could make an... um, Japanese animation inspired robot? A robotic Luchador! All right, that didn't work for us -- but maybe you can overcome our insatiable need to don a glammored mask and cape.Check out the gallery if you need some creative inspiration, or just want to make googely eyes are pretty, shiny screenshots.%Gallery-17946%

We've been getting a lot of glitch screenshots yesterday, so I'm trying to be more picky and only use the most unusual ones. This shot of Wintergrasp from Bundead of <Monolith> on The Sentinels definitely qualifies. The normal tree textures have been replaced with the head of an angry, bald man. Has the Warden program become sentient and started to stalk players through the gamescape? Or is Bundead being followed by the decapitated head of a Lego figurine? The fun thing about jumping in EVE Online - or maybe not so fun if you don't have your clone updated/are in a jump clone - is never knowing what you're jumping into. It could be a peaceful system with nothing going on, you could be about to get hammered on the other side of the gate. Today's One Shots sent in to us by CJ shows off one of these gates players tend to run into. CJ writes: I'm sure you get tons of one shots from the EVE Online community constantly, but one thing I haven't seen on the site are probably the one thing every EVE player is going to use more than even space stations: stargates. Good thing they are quite a wonder to look at. Have you been exploring parts of your favorite game that we haven't seen here? All games are welcome, all images too! Send us combat, static shots, landscapes (spacescapes?) you name it, to oneshots AT massively DOT com.
