Amazon is reportedly working on an emotion-detecting wearable
Amazon is reportedly working on a wrist-worn gadget that's able to detect your emotional state. The device would pair with a smartphone and use microphones to perceive your emotions from your voice, Bloomberg reported. The device would eventually be able to offer suggestions on how to better interact with other people, according to internal documents.
Google's sentiment analysis API is just as biased as humans
Google developed its Cloud Natural Language API to give customers a language analyzer that could, the internet giant claimed, "reveal the structure and meaning of your text." Part of this gauges sentiment, deeming some words positive and others negative. When Motherboard took a closer look, they found that Google's analyzer interpreted some words like "homosexual" to be negative. Which is evidence enough that the API, which judges based on the information fed to it, now spits out biased analysis.
Art exhibit turns tweets into a colorful sphere of emotion
Even if you see thousands of tweets per day and all the emotions that go with them, that's just a tiny fraction of Twitter's total traffic. A new art project wants to help you grasp the joy or fury expressed by all of the users around the world at once. The Fuse Studio's "Amygdala" installation at the CUBO Centro Unipol in Bologna, Italy crunches up to 30 tweets per second and translates each into one of six emotions: Happiness, anger, sadness, disgust, amazement or fear.

While end-of-the-world events are often steeped in sentimentality, they don't have to be the only times where such expressions emerge.
