A holding company is trying to bring Telltale Games back to life

Like a character out of The Walking Dead, Telltale Games is coming back to life, though whether it will be anything like the studio fans fondly remember remains to be seen. On Wednesday, a holding company named LCG Entertainment announced that it had acquired "key assets, trademarks, technology, and select intellectual properties" related to the defunct studio, which had developed popular episodic game series like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands.

'The Wolf Among Us' season two delayed into 2019

It has been nearly four years since The Wolf Among Us wrapped up its original episodic run, but fans will have to wait a bit longer for a follow-up. Telltale Games announced that season two is delayed from its original late-2018 release window into 2019 due to "a few fundamental changes here at Telltale since we first announced the game last summer." As Eurogamer notes, this could refer to layoffs last year that cut its staff by 25 percent, even though at the time, the studio stated that upcoming releases including The Wolf Among Us season two would not be affected.

The first season of The Wolf Among Us can live among your gaming library at a discount today, as the episodic adventure game is currently $19.99 on Amazon. The 33 percent off sale is good for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, while Vita players can pick up The Wolf Among Us for $24.49 on the retailer's site. Developed by The Walking Dead creator Telltale Games, The Wolf Among Us stars Fabletown's Sheriff Bigby Wolf, formerly known as The Big Bad Wolf. Based on Bill Willingham's Fables comic book series, the game's five episodes follows Bigby as he maintains order in the small New York City community. Our review of the final episode, "Cry Wolf," noted that the game's first season "lays the groundwork for the series that is (hopefully) to come, getting us invested in these pigs, these trolls, these witches, these toads, these people." Here's an early Christmas present: The Walking Dead Seasons 1 and 2, The Wolf Among Us, Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones, all bundled together for just $55 or £35. That's the cut-down, half-price offer available to Gold members on Xbox One, courtesy of the new Telltale Games Collection. If you've yet to wrack your nerves over the agonizing, split-second choices of Telltale's recent adventure games, that's a decent price for 5 seasons and 26 episodes of content spanning 4 very different adaptations. In terms of what you can download and play today, the bundle includes all the episodes from the first season of The Wolf Among Us, the complete first and second seasons of The Walking Dead, and the debut episodes of Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones. Like the rest of us you'll have to wait for the remaining episodes of those last two series, but they are covered by the season passes that come with the bundle.

We're knee-deep in silly season, so it was already a stuffed-enough PlayStation Store update. Factor in that we've just had the first Tuesday of November and therefore the PlayStation Plus slew of games, well, we've got a fair bit to get through here. First off, there are the retail releases that get their downloadable accompaniments. That's MotoGP 14 (PS4 $60, PS3 $40 and Vita $30), The Wolf Among Us ($25 on PS4 and Vita), the standalone Toy Box download for Disney Infinity 2.0 ($20 on PS4 and PS3 for a limited time, regular price $30), Rocksmith 2014 ($60 on PS4), and finally the small matter of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare ($60 on PS4 and PS3.) If you've got $100 to burn, you qualify to be a Digital Pro thanks to CoD: Advanced Warfare - Digital Pro Edition. Earning this prestigious title comes with the added benefits of the season pass, a bonus multiplayer map and other in-game goodies.

Following prior speculation stemming from a Gamestop listing, Telltale Games has confirmed that its dark fairy tale adventure The Wolf Among Us will be available on retail shelves come November 4. Not only will this mark the retail debut of the Vita, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, but it's also the first time the adventure game will reach the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Each retail version of the game, regardless of platform, will include all five of the game's episodes, and both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will also play host to likewise complete digital iterations of The Wolf Among Us. If Telltale's name on the box isn't enough to sell you on the adventure following the studio's phenomenal Walking Dead adaptation, perhaps our review can sway you. "The Wolf Among Us has been consistently excellent from start to finish, and its final chapter, Cry Wolf, is the well-told end of this well-told story," reads our four and a half of five stars review of the game's final episode. Beyond the break you'll find a trailer reiterating all of this information, only with more pretty pictures to stare at. [Image: Telltale Games]

Telltale Games narrowed down the release window for its debut on PS4 and Xbox One, with The Walking Dead scheduled for sometime in October. Disc versions of Season 1 (including the 400 Days DLC) and Season 2 are confirmed for retail shelves next month, followed by the premiere season of The Wolf Among Us in November. The Walking Dead Season 2 and The Wolf Among Us are also getting retail releases on PS3, Xbox 360 and Vita, though Telltale's wording suggests they may not release alongside the PS4 and Xbox One games. There's nothing official on concrete release dates, but Amazon's been listing October 14 for TWD Season 1 on PS4 and Xbox One since June, with Season 2 dated for October 21. GameStop also has those dates listed, and both retailers have The Wolf Among Us on the new consoles for November 4. According to the listings, each game is priced at $30. [Image: Telltale Games]

This week's PSN Tuesday is out of this world, headlined by classic adventure game Another World 20th Anniversary Edition on PS4, PS3 and Vita as a Cross-Buy for $8. In other tri-platform Cross-Buy news, there's cheesy puzzle game Mousecraft for $15. The Wolf Among Us Episode 5 is out today on PS3 for $5 – a screaming deal, if we may say so (our review certainly does). Up for pre-order is the Destiny Digital Guardian Edition for PS3 or PS4 ($90), and Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty for PS4 ($30). With today's update, PS3 also gets Le Tour de France – Season 2014, One Piece Unlimited World Red and Sacra Terra: Kiss of Death. For one week, PS Plus members can get DC Universe Online: The Hand of Fate for $4.90, DC Universe Online: War of the Light Part 1 for $4.90, Another World for $7.20, and the PlayStation Plus pack for Blacklight Retribution for free. Everyone can snag that DC Universe Online content for $7 apiece during the sale this week, along with a lineup of DLC for Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag, Canabalt for $1.50, Kung Fu Rabbit for $2.50, PS2 Classic Stella Deus for $4 and Breakquest: Extra Evolution – Minis for $1.50. "You know, you're not as bad as everyone says." Words to those effect are said twice to Sheriff Bigby Wolf during "Cry Wolf," the final chapter of The Wolf Among Us. The first time, it's a sneer hurled across a room, dripping with derision. The second time, it's a salve for wounded feelings, delivered with knowing kindness. Both declarations are accurate, for Bigby is no longer just the Big Bad Wolf that once prowled the Homelands. He is now both larger and smaller – part of something more than merely himself, and as a result, confined to the restrictions of human life, where problems can't simply be solved with tooth and claw. Things were really so much easier when you could just rip someone's head off and be done with it.

Welcome to Joystiq Weekly, a "too long; didn't read" of each week's biggest stories, reviews and original content. Each category's top story is introduced with a reactionary gif, because moving pictures aren't just for The Daily Prophet. With Sony upping PlayStation Plus to six games per month, we're pretty confident that the service is trying to ruin our lives. We're not obligated to tackle every single title, of course, but in the cycle of starting downloads for games "just in case" we ever feel an inkling to play them, we're losing track of which games we should feel guilty about not finishing and which games we should feel guilty about paying $60 for and not finishing. If not for the bills, assignments and the omnipresence of life's ever-ticking clock, we'd plop down in front of our TVs for a few years and knock out every game we ever felt intrigued by. To hell with "everything in moderation" - moderation wouldn't clear out our shelves of "yeah, maybe one day" RPGs, nor would it help us get the timing for our go-to Street Fighter combos down to the exact frame. Moderation is just a feeble admission that we can't control time (yet), and it ignores our potential to play all the video games, which we'll definitely get to. Eventually. Some day. Unfortunately, getting through every game we've ever wanted to play is still just a fantasy for now. Unless you find a way to break the laws of life's constants - if you do, you should totally let us know. We can do co-op or something. Until we reach that dream state, you can get a glimpse of Battlefield Hardline, read reviews for Watch Dogs and Among The Sleep, and dig into a neat feature on Watch Dogs that explains how legalities ruin everything. It's all waiting for you after the break!

Turns out those 326 retailer listings were true: The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us Season 1 are confirmed for PS4 and Xbox One. Telltale's two adventure series hit the consoles this year, and The Walking Dead Season 1 and Season 2 are packaged as separate games. The Season One box is the GOTY edition, so it includes the 400 Days DLC episode. Telltale's also bringing new discs to the Xbox 360 and PS3, with the two last-gen consoles getting The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead Season 2 too. Though it's not noted, we'll probably see both series on the PS4 and Xbox One's digital storefronts as well. [Image: Telltale Games]

Listings for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Telltale Games' episodic adventure game series The Wolf Among Us have surfaced at multiple retailers in North America, strongly hinting at an upcoming retail release for the current crop of consoles. GameStop, GameFly, and Best Buy each list PS4 and Xbox One versions of The Wolf Among Us alongside series compilations for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. To date, Telltale Games has not announced a retail release for The Wolf Among Us for any platform. We've contacted Telltale for comment, and await a response. Congratulations, you found Joystiq's secret review of The Wolf Among Us Episode 4: In Sheep's Clothing (not that we hid it very well or anything). If you wandered in here by accident, you'll find our more traditional review right here. The following excerpt is taken from the personal journal of Snow White, during events that would culminate in her ascension to the position of Mayor of Fabletown. My jacket is ruined. Isn't that a stupid thing to be thinking about? But I can't get it out of my mind. There was just so much blood ... I didn't even notice how much until Bigby was put back together. I wonder how many more jackets I'll ruin before this is all over. I don't know how this all happened. It's not like the Homelands were safe, but at least there we knew the rules. We understood who was who and why they did the things they did, but here ... I don't feel like I know anything anymore. I thought once we found Crane, everything would be clear, but every time it seems like we're getting closer to an answer, the path twists and we're even further away from knowing anything. Which is appropriate for The Crooked Man, I guess. I don't know. I'm so tired.

  • The Wolf Among Us 'In Sheep's Clothing' review: Wild and woolly

This is a review of the fourth episode of The Wolf Among Us, and as such it contains spoilers for previous episodes. Doors are pretty symbolic things, when you think about it. Part of a structure, but not really of the structure, they separate different states of being as well as different rooms. You are one thing before you walk through a door, but something else entirely once you've passed its threshold. The events of The Wolf Among Us have been leading to the fourth episode, "In Sheep's Clothing," and this door, this single door, which Bigby has passed through alone. His passage marks the beginning of the end. The culmination that he, Snow, and the rest of the Fables have unknowingly been racing toward this entire time. The meeting was inevitable. The outcome is not.

  • The Wolf Among Us Episode 4 darkens the city next week

In touch with the ground, Bigby's on the hunt in the fourth episode of The Wolf Among Us next week. If you're hungry like Bigby, look out for "In Sheep's Clothing" on May 27 for PS3 (North America only), Windows PC and Mac, and then Xbox 360 on May 28 and iOS on May 29. Telltale says release details for the European PS3 release are forthcoming. As ever, the episode is $5 or you can get via various season passes on different platforms. Joystiq's Susan Arendt felt Episode 3 of The Wolf Among Us was, relative to the previous episodes' standards, acceptable if not fully satisfying. As she put it, the middle episode was a "good storytelling soldier, letting itself be bland and bleak so that the other chapters can shine." So hopefully things will kick on in the penultimate chapter of Telltale's whodunit. [Image: Telltale Games]

Joystiq Streams is already the stuff of legend, so it's no wonder we're drawn to Bill Willingham's long running Fables comic book series. Like its supernatural stars Snow White, Bigby Wolf, and Cinderella, we, too, are nigh-on immortal and in constant combat with evil despots forcing us to live exiled in New York City. That last part isn't true. What is true is that we'll be playing the very first episode The Wolf Among Us on Joystiq Streams alongside its creators and we'll be giving away heaps of codes for both that episode and Steam season passes. Tune in right here to this post or the Joystiq Twitch channel at 4PM EST as we stream The Wolf Among Us: Faith alongside Telltale Games producer Chris Schroyer and actor Adam Harrington, the voice behind Bigby Wolf. Richard Mitchell will play, Susan Arendt will chat, and in the Twitch chat feed Anthony John Agnello will be giving away three codes for Episode 1 on Xbox 360, three codes for the episode on PlayStation 3, and three full Wolf Among Us season passes for Steam. This week's reveal of Charizard in Super Smash Bros.' roster is a bit of a blow to our argument that Squirtle is the best starter from Pokemon Red/Blue. Yes, both pocket monsters were in the Pokemon Trainer's arsenal in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but Charizard flying solo is a whole different level of awesome, one that's left us Squirtle enthusiasts drowning in envy. Playground rivalries aside, there's a lot more going on this week beyond Pokefeuds. Sony admitted that The Last Of Us is coming to the PS4, Borderlands fans are finally going to be able to play as Claptrap in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and we've got a faint glimmer of hope for the Xbox One to eventually be backwards compatible. This is also the weekend of PAX East, which you can treat as a source of news or, if you're attending, a giant game of "Where's Waldo?" Track down Joystiq's away team and say hi! Provided you can catch them between appointments, panels and the lone meal of their day, that is.

This week's PSN update brings PlayStation systems the the smallest of people in their smallest versions, courtesy of the newly released Lego: The Hobbit. It's out at retailers for PS4, PS3, and Vita, but if you'd prefer a download version it's also on the PlayStation Store. That'll set you back $60 on PS4, $50 on PS3 and $30 on Vita, so if you're after the smaller of prices, King Oddball at $7 might pick your fancy. The physics-based puzzler has an Angry Birds flavor, except it has a floating rock head who chucks smaller rocks around with his bizarrely long tongue. Oh and he has a crown on his head. It's been out on Vita for a little while as well as iOS, Android, and a few other platforms, but this is its debut on PS4. PS4 also has the new Director's Cut of Strike Suit Zero for $20, while the PS3 makes do with a Sonic Unleashed download for the same price. If you're after a more palatable vintage, Persona 4 is this week's PS2 Classic re-release, meaning you can get it on PS3 for $10. Finally, Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark is the latest PS Plus freebie for subscribers, and Episode 3 of Telltale's The Wolf Among Us is available to PS3 owners, priced at $5. [Image: Atlus]
