  • WipEout HD has Platinum Trophy, should be over $30

Although WipEout HD is a PSN download-exclusive game, it looks like it may be priced like a standard retail game. A snapshot of the game's Trophy screen shows a Platinum Trophy for the game -- one that's reserved for full retail games. Shorter, cheaper games on PSN, such as PixelJunk Eden, Super Stardust HD and PAIN, do not feature a Platinum Medal. However, full-priced retail games, such as Uncharted, do grant Platinum Trophies. With this evidence, we can postulate that WipEout HD will be available for download for at least $30 (the cost of Warhawk, downloaded from the PLAYSTATION Store). SCEA still hasn't announced an official release date or price for the game, but rest assured that the news is forthcoming.[Via NeoGAF] Don't blink! • SingStar Volume 2 heading to North America in October

Recently released in Europe and Australia, SingStar Vol. 2 will take the stage in North America sometime in October, no doubt letting armchair harmonizers looking for the next in Sony's karaoke series breathe a sigh of relief -- preferably not directly into the mic. This latest expansion will add 30 new sing-along tracks, as well as support for Trophies, presumably used to club off-tune rockers over the head for butchering radio favorites. However, given the advent of the SingStore, the need for regular discs seems trivial, especially once our arms tire from all that disc swapping. Plus, we'd rather cherry pick songs we know we'll like rather than buy in bulk and hope for the best. That's just how we roll. [Via PS3 Fanboy]

  • Our Trophy Portal gets massive update again

We've been quietly updating our Trophy Portal almost every day. There are so many games that are getting Trophy support, and we thought you'd be quite annoyed if we told you about every single one of them on the front page. With the help of PS3Trophies.org again, we can confirm that a significant number of third party developers are adding Trophies to their games. Here's a list of just a few The Wheelman The Godfather II Mirror's Edge Alpha Protocol Bayonetta Sonic Unleashed Alone in the Dark (Update: Alone in the Dark does not contain Trophies.) Remember to check our constantly-updated Trophy Portal to see what new additions there are. Also, note that our Trophy Guides for PixelJunk Eden and Uncharted are just a few days away.

  • Come see Trophies unlocked in LittleBigPlanet

It's been known for some time now that LittleBigPlanet will have Trophies, but we haven't actually seen them yet ... well, until now that is. The video after the cut witnesses the reluctant unlocking of four Bronze Trophies and a Silver one during a gameplay demonstration at Leipzig. For all the unduly converted Trophy junkies out there, these Trophies are titled: Forager, Sticky Fingers, Treasure Hunter, 2x Multiplier, and Booty Master (this is the silver one). Personally, Booty Master takes the trophy naming prize for us. Is there a Trophy we can give to a Trophy? Anyway, knowing that the game is due out by the end of October, this little bit of info comes as a pleasant early taste of a fresh new accolade hunt that's soon to come. Check out the video, after the cut. [Thanks, Farmer_Steve!]

  • SingStar Volume 2 coming to America, features Trophies

Just like Europe, SingStar will be getting an expansion disc here in the States. The disc offers the same SingStar experience as the original, but offers a different track list featuring 30 new songs. For newcomers to the series, this is a different way of getting the full PS3 SingStar experience. However, series regulars will have to swap discs if they want to have all the songs from Volume 1 and Volume 2: there's no way of ripping content from one disc to another, a la Rock Band.SingStar is meant to be a constantly evolving platform, and we're assuming any new features added to America's Volume 2 disc will be applied via patch across all other SingStar games. For example, the US version of SingStar received a patch that contained all the new features added to the European Volume 2 game. One of the most exciting features for the upcoming expansion is the addition of Trophies -- exactly how that will work in conjunction with the SingStore is anyone's guess. For this week's SingStore update, and the full track listing for Volume 2, visit IGN.[Thanks, Kspraydad!]

  • Rumor: Mega Man 9 Achievements are evil

If there's one thing you'll see a lot during your stroll through Mega Man 9's trap-laden, pit-filled and exceedingly deadly memory lane, it's the poor little robot boy exploding into a booming bloom of pulsating energy. Unfortunately, there appears to be no achievement for dying one billion times -- at least not in the list of in-game gongs posted by Inside MGC.So, how about beating the game without dying? Or without using energy tanks? How confident are you about defeating every boss using only the standard buster ... or without taking damage? Well, it looks like we'll be going for the WiiWare version of the game after all. We just can't deal with Capcom giving us a retro-wrapped gift with one hand and plucking Xbox 360 Achievements (or PSN Trophies?) out of our grasp with the other. Those meanies![Thanks, Morgon]

    08.11.2008

Over at PlayStation.Blog, the game director of Warhawk, Dylan Jobe, lets us in on the details surrounding the important v1.5 update which will bring trophies. Last week, we already provided you with a list of trophies and a release date of August 27th for Europe -- it now appears the date will apply to the US as well. Other updates will include: Custom in-game music confirmed once again. Training tutorials -- 4 offline tutorials for "newbies" to the game, focusing "on the core principals of each of the 3 modes of gameplay: Infantry, Ground Vehicles and Aircraft." The fourth tutorial, Flight Practice, will have players destroying as many attack drones as possible in 3 minutes. Completing these tutorials will result in a trophy. Clan leaders will now have the ability to retract a clan invite. 20 new paint schemes and 50 new insignias. Participants of the GGL tournament will receive a in-game GGL-Ceremonial Knife. The winners of the tournament will receive a Champion's Blade. Green servers will be designated for rookies only. Jobe hints at a jetpack for the next Booster Pack with a promise of more information to come at Leipzig. Some exploits and issues were fixed. Read Jobe's post for more details. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

  • Pain to get Trophies Sept. 4

    08.08.2008

We don't quite know how it does it, but the seemingly shallow Pain keeps finding ways to work itself back onto our radar. Before it's been free DLC, this time it's Trophies, being added to the game on Sept. 4, alongside the "Amusement Park" DLC pack. We're not positive, but it appears you won't have to grab the DLC to get the Trophies, they'll just be arriving concurrently. After the break you'll find a full list of Trophies, which run the gamut from seemingly impossible to embarrassingly crude. Which, as Pain producer Travis Williams points out, is completely appropriate for the game.

  • Looks like Blitz: The League II will also support Trophies

It seems like almost every game is getting Trophy support these days. Pretty soon, it won't be long until Trophies become standard across all games (and they'll stop being special!). A sharp reader noticed an image on IGN for the upcoming Blitz game that features the now-familiar icon with the next: "You have earned a trophy." Considering it's a multiplatform title, it's likely that the Trophies in Blitz will be identical to the Xbox 360's Achievements.[Thanks, TheDon23!]

  • PS3 Fanboy's Trophy Portal now open

    08.06.2008

The fine fellas over at PS3 Fanboy are becoming just a little obsessed over Trophies. We're not judging, but one of them asked the other day if Willy Wonka's shrinking ray could be used to miniaturize real-life trophies to the point where they could just push them into the code? We didn't have a clue how to answer that. Thankfully, they've discovered a healthy outlet for their Trophy vice with the PS3 Fanboy Trophy Portal®.The PS3 Fanboy Trophy Portal will update with the latest information on games supporting Sony's achievement system. It will list the Trophies available in each game and should be kept up to date. Feel free to ask for a refund on your site subscription if they don't keep the list current.

Trophies have been implemented for over a month now, but we've been holding back on opening our new trophy Portal until there were actually games that supported them. You know, plural. But now that PixelJunk Eden and Uncharted are both rocking the trophies, with more to come later this month, this seems like as good a time as any to get the party started. Our Trophy Portal, which can be accessed at any time from www.joystiq.com/trophies, includes links to almost every trophy-based article we've written. We've listed games which we know will support trophies in the future, those that we know won't and, for those that already do, we've got links to their corresponding trophy lists and guides. This page will be constantly updated with new info as and when we receive it.

  • Warhawk Trophy patch goes online Aug 27

    08.05.2008

As it was foretold, the time of Warhawk's Trophy patch is almost upon us. Sony Europe announced that patch 1.5 will be available for the online game beginning August 27. We've yet to hear word from Sony America about a North American release date, but if it's anything like yesterday's Uncharted patch, the updates should hopefully occur on the same day.Trophies in Warhawk will be conceptually divided into four categories: Community Building, Game Mode, Vehicle and Warhawk Weapons. Although there are no details, some achievements will work retroactively. There will also be separate awards for the expansion sets and, according to Warhawk Game Director Dylan Jobe, the platinum Trophy will not require the purchase of those extra sets. If Trophies are what clinch the deal to buy Warhawk, remember that the game is now available at a "greatest hits" price of $30.[Via PS3 Fanboy]

Did you hear that? That's the sound of you unlocking another Trophy. With PixelJunk Eden and Uncharted's recent patch, Trophies have been on the minds of PlayStation fans everywhere. Well, here's some more good news: popular online multiplayer game, Warhawk, will be sporting Trophies by the end of this month. SCEE reports that patch 1.5 will release on August 27th (we're assuming a global release, a la Uncharted). There will be over 50 Trophies to collect, depending on the number of expansion packs you have installed with the game. Hopefully, Dylan Jobe is keeping his word about the Platinum Trophy: you should be able to get it without having any of the expansions. Also, SCEE reports that the game will get in-game music support with this update as well. That's an impressive patch, no? See details on the various Trophies and features here.[Thanks, DeforMAKulizer!]

  • Bioshock will have PS3 unique trophies

    by

    08.04.2008

Over at PlayStation.Blog, 2K Marin game designer Tynan Wales assures us there will be unique trophies for the PS3 port of Bioshock. Earlier, a partial list of trophies were made available, with every single one identical to a Xbox 360 achievement. This lead to the assumption the rest of the trophies would follow suit. Not so, apparently. Wales spilled the beans only on two of these unique trophies: a Gold trophy named "A Man Chooses" which requires one to complete the game on Survivor difficulty, and another known as "I Chose The Impossible" which dictates a player must complete the game on Survivor difficulty with the Vita-Chambers turned off. Keep in mind, even though these trophies are technically unique, they are simply upgraded versions of the "Seriously Good At This" and "Brass Balls" achievements of the Xbox 360 version with the new PS3-exclusive Survivor difficulty. And in case you are wondering: yes, the above is the official final cover for Bioshock on the PS3.
