  • 2K reveals some PS3 BioShock Trophies; Survivor mode still a mystery

After giving a tiny taste of the Trophies available in the PS3 version of BioShock a couple weeks ago, 2K left people feeling like all Achievements had simply been recycled. Not so, says 2K Marin designer Tynan Wales, explaining on the PlayStation Blog that there are exclusive Trophies for the port. "A Man Chooses" -- Complete "Survivor" difficulty. "I Choose The Impossible" -- Complete "Survivor" difficulty with the Vita-Chambers turned off. So, what's this "exclusive" mode called Survivor for the PS3 version of the game? Beats us! There were murmurings that it was a hard difficulty with the Vita-Chambers turned off, but now that these two achievements have been revealed, that's obviously not the case. We're checking with 2K for an official answer.Update: Supposedly 2K Marin will reveal what Survivor mode is tomorrow.

What? No fanfare? The trophy patch for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is now available. At the moment this is only true for Europe, but no doubt the patch for other regions will be up soon. We'll be sure to update you when that happens. This patch contains a full set of 48 trophies, 47 of which correspond to the medal system already found in the game. The final, platinum, trophy is only achievable once you've obtained the others. So go ahead and give Uncharted a dusting off, stick it in the drive and start collecting. Your PSN level depends on it! Naughty Dog has released the Uncharted 1.10 patch, bringing 48 Trophies and whatever else is packed into a 13 MB update to the game, according to numerous tips we've received this morning. The catch? The patch is only available in Europe at the moment. We're furiously booting and rebooting here in the US and will let you know as soon as we're able to start earning Trophies of our own. (Hopefully, later today.) Update: The patch is live on US servers! [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

With the game due to hit the PlayStation Store tomorrow, Sony has divulged full details on PixelJunk Eden's Achievements Trophies, including what it'll take to earn 'em all. What's interesting is that out of the 20 up for grabs, 19 are bronze, one is silver, and ... none are gold. But we love gold! We'll be keeping a keen eye on videos of PJE players earning said Trophies thanks to the game's built-in YouTube upload functionality, which allows for recording of up to 10 minutes of gameplay. And, given how hooked we've already become on the demo, we'll also be making use of the Remote Play feature so we never need to leave our garden untended. Keep reading after the break for the full Trophies breakdown.[Via PS3 Fanboy]

  • Uncharted's Trophies identical to in-game medals

An interview with Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer revealed a few details about Uncharted's upcoming Trophy patch which confirms what we've suspected all along. Trophies will be identical to the in-game rewards system ("medals"). The evidence? Arne says the game has 48 Trophies, 47 regular ones and 1 Platinum for completionists. The original game also featured 47 medals. Descriptions of certain Trophies, like killing fifty enemies in a row without dying should be familiar to those that already earned those medals. "The Trophies are tied to the medal rewards which already exist in Uncharted. The requirement to get each Trophy is exactly the same as the one for the associated medal."Unfortunately, there is no retroactive rewards system for Uncharted. If you want Trophies, you're going to have to start all over from the beginning. "To receive Trophies in Uncharted you will have to start a brand new save game without any medals or rewards unlocked."Also, don't expect any new content in the upcoming patch. It's all about Trophies. Expect the patch to go live in just a few more weeks.[Thanks, AlterEgo!]

[Update: Not so fast, turns out the information cited by TalkPlayStation.com was PS3 Fanboy's Andrew Yoon on the PlayStation Nation Podcast. At around 56 minutes in, Andrew simply reiterated what Naughty Dog's Evan Wells already told us: that the developer was targeting the "middle of next month" to add Trophy support to Uncharted. Additionally, a Naughty Dog rep told us that, while August 22nd very well may be the date, they wouldn't know ... it hasn't been chosen yet.]TalkPlaystation.com has allegedly confirmed that Trophies will be added to Naughty Dog's Uncharted Drake's Fortune on August 22. Despite a form of "achievements" originally being part of Uncharted, we'd been told previously that the Trophies will not be retroactive, so prepare to play the adventure all over again.Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells mentioned previously that adding the Trophy patch for the game was "incredibly easy" because of the medal system the company already implemented in the game. Now that's thinking ahead.

Sony's European arm has issued an official statement regarding WipEout HD's chronic PSN tardiness, and while the company failed to comment specifically concerning racer's reported tendency to leave players with the shakes, SCEE did reveal that the game is being updated to include a number of tweaks under the hood.According to Sony, WipEout HD's continued delay is the result of "many improvements" and "numerous" additional features, including support for 2-player offline split screen and Trophies, as well as 8 reverse tracks, 4 extra ships, and a pair of alternative HUDS. As for when we'll be able to enjoy any of this from the comfort of our living rooms, Sony was less specific, saying only that it hopes to release the game "very soon."[Thanks, Kyrul] Gallery: WipEout HD

Ferrari Challenge's Mark Cale really loves PlayStation, it seems. So much so, that his game isn't coming out on Xbox 360. The development team is also working on getting one of the newest PS3 features enabled in the game: Trophies. The racing game, which is currently available in Europe (coming soon for America), is joining the ever-growing list of Trophy-supported games. Speaking in a live Q&A session with Eurogamer's readers, Cale notes that "We're really impressed with what Sony are doing with Trophies, and we'll be making an update available very soon to allow the game to support these features in the future."Looks like Trophy fanatics are getting a lot of work piling up. With PixelJunk Eden, Uncharted and now Ferrari Challenge added to the mix, Trophy fanatics are going to have a lot of sleepless nights.[Thanks, Maverix007!]

  • BioShock PS3 receiving trophies, some details given

    07.22.2008

Adding to the news from last week that BioShock on PS3 will be getting "exclusive" content, the PlayStation Blog reveals that the game will also receive Trophies. Alyssa Finley, executive producer at 2K Marin, explains how the Trophies are being designed and reveals a few of them in the process. Bronze: These trophies will be handed out for exploring the general facets of the game, like "researching, modifying weapons, hacking, and crafting." Silver: These trophies will require more thorough exploration of Rapture. The "Historian" Trophy will require finding every audio diary in the game. Finley says the other trophies are going to be kept secret, but we're guessing if you look at the Xbox achievements, the tougher exploration ones should be found here. Gold: The Trophy "Brass Balls" can be found here, requiring a player make it through the game on hard with the Vita-Chambers turned off. Platinum: ??? BioShock should be available to those who forsake all but the PS3 later this year. We might just have to take a return trip to Rapture for the Trophies alone.

  • Revealed trophies for BioShock identical to 360 achievements

Over on the PS Blog, the executive producer for BioShock revealed some detailed information on trophy content for the upcoming PS3 version. In fact, the post divulged that the trophies mentioned were identical to the achievements found in the original Xbox 360 game. It is very likely that the remainder trophies will follow just the same.Silver trophy "Historian" is exactly the same as the 360 achievement of the same name which requires players to find all audio diaries. Gold trophy "Brass Balls" requires players to complete the game on hard mode with all Vita-Chambers turned off. This one is also identical to the 360 achievement of the same name. Some of the bronze trophies will revolve around the in-game systems "like Researching, Modifying Weapons, Hacking, and Crafting." In total, only a very few trophies were mentioned, but it wouldn't be surprising if some of these achievements find their way into the PS3 version.

  • Different release dates for different versions of Rock Band 2

Yesterday we found out we are getting trophies, and today we might have the release dates. If the official online store for Rock Band franchise rockbandstore.com is to be believed, we have two different release dates for Rock Band 2 on our hands. The regular edition with just the game will be out on November 30th, according to the pre-order page. While first time rockers and those who have the dough for another set of plastic instruments will start jammin' away sooner on October 19th. These dates correspond with what we saw on Amazon before, who also has both versions for pre-order, with the Special Edition even-so-slightly cheaper at $10 off. How do you guys feel about this? The Xbox 360 versions will arrive the same day in September. Is this Harmonix's way of making more money off impatient PS3 owners? Though at least we aren't Wii owners, who will have to wait till November 18th to get any version of the game.[Thanks, Wes!][Update: Looks like Amazon has changed it up again since yesterday -- the regular version of the game now has a release date of October 19th as well.]

  • Rumor: Trophies may become mandatory in 2009

    07.18.2008

Trophies are rather new for the PS3 audience. In fact, only one game on the market right now supports them. But, will things change in the future? The answer looks to be "yes." First party titles are all required to have Trophy support, but in 2009, all Trophies may become "mandated." One major developer told Joystiq that Sony may require Trophies in all third party games. In addition, Trophies may be required to be different from Xbox 360 Achievements. "We've heard some things that make it sound like we will have to do some unique to PS3 Trophies ... this is all very new to us." It won't be long until more games release, and gamers flock to get the highest PlayStation Level possible.

  • Rumor: Sony 'mandating' some unique Trophies in 2009

While not every game may include Trophies for now, at least one major developer tells Joystiq that Sony's answer to Achievements will be "mandated" by Sony for every new PS3 release in 2009.This isn't entirely unexpected given recently-revised comments by PSN director of operations, Eric Lampel. What's more interesting, however, is that the developer, which is currently working on an early 2009 release, is also hearing that Sony may be enforcing some measure of uniqueness between spoils earned on its console versus the Xbox 360. Commented to developer, "We've heard some things that make it sound like we will have to do some unique to PS3 Trophies...this is all very new to us." While unconfirmed, we can't wait to see to what extent Sony will try to separate its virtual accolades from those on the Xbox 360, or if the idea will simply be enough to make completionists' heads implode.

  • Rumor: Trophies on PSP

This isn't the first time rumors have been going around, but it's the first time we have some real evidence. During a presentation yesterday during E3 for Buzz! Master Quiz, producer Emerson Escobar talked about an in-game medal system, which isn't too surprising for a quiz game. But then, Escobar begins talking about a "trophy system" where depending on the speed you answer a question, you get a different trophy. When asked if this meant trophies for PSP, Escobar responded with a nervous chuckle and a "check back with us later," without saying anything else.No comments from Sony at this time. But trophies on the PSP seem almost natural at this point, so we are wondering more as to when trophies will be available on our favorite handheld.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

  • Rock Band 2 will support PS3 Trophies

Although Rock Band 2 is coming out on Xbox 360 before PS3, Harmonix isn't neglecting PS3 owners. They note that Microsoft "helped us out massively by coming in, helping us to complete features and have given us great marketing support." We wonder if "marketing support" means "money?" Regardless, it appears Sony didn't offer the same "support" as Microsoft. There are still a number of features that Rock Band 2 will support on PS3 that wasn't found on the original Rock Band release. Dan Teasdale from Harmonix told Videogamer.com, "You're going to have voice chat, you're going to have complete integration with rockband.com, you're going to have trophies. We're going to make sure that PS3 gamers have just as great an experience."

    07.16.2008

We've known for some time now that Naughty Dog's incredible fan-favorite Uncharted is getting Trophy support via an upcoming patch. However, we haven't heard of a time frame ... until now. An interview with Joystiq reveals that the patch was "incredibly easy" to implement because the game "already contains preliminary support fro Trophies via its Medals rewards system." However, don't expect to get any Trophies retroactively ... you're going to have to earn them all over again. (Considering how good the game is, we won't complain!)Interestingly, Naughty Dog's Evan Wells included these "hooks" for Trophy support because the team believed Sony would implement the feature before the launch of Uncharted last November. Guess those guys were a bit too foward-thinking. Regardless, we can't wait to boost our PlayStation Level.

It is now official the game will contain trophy support -- Andrew Rudson, a programmer at 2K games talks about the technical challenges of implementing trophies into the title in a blog entry. • Sorry, no trophies for 1942 or Bionic Commando [Update]

    07.10.2008

The upcoming 1942 and Bionic Commando PSN games are not going to support trophies, according to a statement by Capcom PR Manager Tim Ng. Many speculated after a recent PlayStation.Blog post that the upcoming downloadable Bionic Commando title would support PS3's Achievement-esque Trophy system. Considering how popular they are for Super Stardust HD, we really hoped Capcom would've been able to add these shiny accomplishments into their games. Perhaps they'll reconsider for future titles down the line.Update: Trophies may be patched into Bionic Commando: Rearmed at some point. However, this isn't guaranteed. According to John Diamonon from Capcom: "Medals are the equivalent to achievements. Basically doing the same things in either version will open up these medals. We are currently reviewing how much work it would take to retro tag save/clear data for trophy support. Certainly though, if it does not require a huge amount of programming time (I.e. money) then we will probably move forward with it." [Source][Photo Source]

  • 2.41 brings new-look Platinum Trophy

    07.08.2008

While to some people the features included within today's new firmware update (trophies and in-game XMB) will be all new, to those of us who managed to download 2.40 before it was pulled there's not a lot of interest. That is, of course, unless you've spotted a new addition that Sony has snuck in. Nothing too special really, but the Platinum trophy image has been changed and, in our opinion, looks much more appealing. While Platinum trophies used to look like a bizarre purple crown the new version, as seen above, looks more like a sports trophy made of crystal. We're looking forward to getting our hands on one once some more games get trophy support. Hopefully now that 2.41 is out we'll be hearing more about exactly when this will happen. Hopefully.
