First off: thank goodness they're not actually called "entitlements." No – Sony has gone simple with its in-game rewards / bragging rights system, settling on the concept of "Trophies" for rewarding players for their ... achievements in games. We had the opportunity to see exactly how the Trophy system will work, which games will support it, and more nitty-gritty details that you can read about after the break!%Gallery-26426%

  • More potential gamer profile pages revealed

Click for higher resolution Our sources have got back to us with a couple more images today. These images show off the third page of the user profiles (seen above) which contain some basic information on the player. Much like the "profiles" we have right now, this includes an "about me" section and a list of the languages that you can speak. A second image, that we've placed after the break, shows what you you will see when you first look at someone else's profile. From here you can see (presumably) when you last played against them, what game it was in and some extra information of some kind. That's all a bit vague at the moment. Buttons underneath the gamer card allow you to interact with that player by adding them as a friend, sending them a message, blocking them or comparing trophies against them. Our source says that comparing trophies currently doesn't work, so that could be the cause of the firmware's delay.Again, we stress that these are unconfirmed screenshots and, as such, could turn out to be fake. We believe enough in what we see (and hear) to put these up for your consideration. Check out the second image after the jump.

  • Rumor: Does this image show a PS3 trophy screen? [UPDATE]

Click for high resolution Seriously, we have no idea. This image just landed into our tips box with a short message stating that it is a leaked picture of 2.40's trophy support. Whether that's true or not is up for discussion. The tipster calls himself "The Patriots," so there's a chance that this is just the beginning of a new S3 Project which will end with us being transformed into some kind of sneaky government super soldiers. Here's hoping.Things that make this image seem legit include a lack of blur (seriously, why does every "leaked" image or video have to be super blurry and hard to make out?), not to mention that this is clearly photographed from a monitor. We've checked and that Clank avatar is a real PS3 avatar. Not exactly conclusive evidence, but enough to keep us speculating, for now.And speculating is all we can do, at this point. If the image is real, does it show a PS3 Gamercard? You'll notice that the trophy page is only one of three, so what's on the others? No doubt we'll see and hear more of this over the next few weeks in the run up to 2.40's release. Unless the image is fake, in which case we probably won't be hearing anymore about it for a long time. If ever.[UPDATE] Take a look after the jump for more images, details on how trophies will work and some information on in-game XMB.[Thanks, The Patriots]

Sony has just confirmed that PlayStation 3 firmware update v2.40 will finally add in-game XMB and trophy support -- but we'll have to wait for update v2.36 first. (Yay for improved "system stability" while playing retro PlayStation games!) Although there's almost no other information to report at this time -- just a hint of "other new enhancements" -- at least we know the rumor is true. Definitely expect more details soon, hopefully before E3 next month.

  • A LotRO guide to the new rare crafting trophies

In many MMOGs, there appears to be a plague of seemingly useless items you find along your travels. These usually include various animal parts in some disgustingly descriptive state. Many of these items are simply merchant fodder, but there are a fair majority of them which are used in crafting. The frustrating part is discovering which ones are worth the 25 copper the merchant gives you, and which ones are worth 5 gold to another player at the auction house. In Lord of the Rings Online, this can be especially confusing because you're even teased a bit in the item's description. "This item can be used in crafting" is a frustrating statement, because you're torn between saving the item for a potentially useful rare opportunity in future crafting, or selling it for a few silver and that precious extra inventory slot.

  • Rumor: In-game XMB and BioShock trophies caught on video

More rumors regarding the long-awaiting, promised in-game XMB for the PlayStation 3. A member of the Max Console forums has posted a handful of images and videos what is reportedly the XMB working during BioShock, as well as trophies for the game. We've embedded one of the videos after the break. While certainly more convincing than some of the mockups we've seen (think: MS paint), we still remain skeptical.

  • New Book 12 screens released by Turbine

    01.29.2008

The Book 12 content patch for the Lord of the Rings Online is on the test server and Turbine has dropped a few tantalizing hints of what's in store. They released brand new screenshots covering three of the many features being implemented in this patch: Amarthiel's redesign, new boss-dropped trophy decorations and the outfit system. If you've gone through the Book 10 epic quest line, you'll know Amarthiel well. She's the sorceress with the palanitr you had to track down with the aid of crazy Sara Oakheart. The three screenshots provided show a new and improved Amarthiel in all her megalomaniacal glory. The housing decoration options shown in four of the screenies are the new trophies that will be dropping from Middle-earth's boss mobs in Book 12. These trophies can then be displayed in the players house or, more likely, the Guild Hall. We can see so far a mannequin holding up a suit of armor, two swords mounted on a wall, an outdoor trophy in the shape of a monument and, finally a head on a pike (or the Elven babe lounging on the bed, we're not sure which one is the prize). The new cosmetic outfits that your character can put over their battle gear are also on display in six screenshots. They spotlight many different races and classes and now they no longer looking like patchwork dolls. Some of these new clothes will be crafted, other items can be vendor purchased. If you look closely at the the picture of the Elf outside the Guild Hall, you'll see one of the new quiver models on his back. When this patch goes live it will only be a matter of time before we see the first screenshot of a raid party confronting the Balrog in pretty pink dresses.%Gallery-14799%

  • Phil Harrison talks GT 5 Prologue, Trophies, and more

Game Informer has posted a great post-E3 interview with Phil Harrison where he talks about Trophies, Sony's response to Gamer Scores, and the ever popular GT 5 Prologue. For GT 5 Prologue, Phil clarified that unlike GT HD, this will be a full game with a full feature set. While he wasn't willing to go into specifics at the number of tracks and cars that will be available in the game when it is released later this year, he indicated that it won't be nearly as stripped down as GT HD and will actually represent what GT 5 will be like. When it came to Trophies, he mentioned that they are actively looking at creating 'retro-Trophies' for older games like Resistance and Motorstorm. It wasn't clear if this would mean you would have to replay the games to get the Trophies, or if they would be automatically awarded based on your past performance -- either way it's very cool to hear Sony is working on this. This is something fans have been asking for since they heard about Sony's Trophy idea and is a pretty exciting idea.Phil also (kind of) talked about their response to Microsoft's bizarrely popular Gamer Scores. He danced around the question a bit, clearly not wanting to reveal too much information but he did give a hint that they're going to avoid a point based system. It's going to be interesting to see how they're able to great a non-point system -- maybe they'll reward you with a number of Loco Rocos depending on your score!
