Nestled deep in the comments section of the official PAIN Blog, Producer Travis Williams has been busy responding to the community. There's plenty of back-and-forth banter, but there are also some hidden gems of info which we thought you might be interested in. PAIN's expansion pack, the Amusement Park, will be available this Summer for "less than $6.99" and a video of it in action will be shown on the official PlayStation Blog at some point tomorrow. A European release will happen simultaneously. With regards to trophies, this will be included in the expansion pack and won't end there. Travis says that "new trophies for PAIN will come out as long as we continue to add content." Hopefully this is a common occurrence, with future game expansions for existing titles bringing more trophies. Could this mean more Super Stardust HD trophies are coming at some point in the future? Considering there's no Platinum trophy, we're guessing so.

  • Capcom: No trophy support for Devil May Cry 4

A poster on Capcom Unity's forums has received an answer to the question of whether Devil May Cry 4 and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be getting the trophy treatment and it is no. Capcom feels that DMC4 already has "its own little trophylike system" and the Puzzle Fighter team has moved on to other projects. There is a tiny bit of good news though, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix may have trophies implemented, but it will depend on "what schedules look like and what Sony's requirements are." The only real good news is future games from Capcom will all have trophies, as it has "been worked into CEI's developer contracts as a required deliverable." Have other publishers signed such a contract? This is rather disappointing, but after a string of such reports, we are not surprised. We are just really hoping SSF2T HD Remix will have support.[Thanks, Jake C.!]

  • Codemasters not planning on adding trophies to GRID

Codemasters is, sadly, the latest developer to be added to the list of those who won't be adding trophy support to their already released titles. On the official GRID forums an administrator has posted saying that they're "currently not planning to restrospectively support PSN trophies - it;s not a trivial thing to add to a game" [sic]. Though this is disappointing, it's not too unexpected. Third party games are the least likely to be patched in. With Criterion showing their contemporaries, hopefully more will decide to rake in the goodwill of gamers by following suit. [Thanks Nuno]

  • PS3 Trophies not guaranteed for 'every game'

Sony has revised a remark made by Eric Lampel that "every game" would eventually feature Trophies. What Lampel likely meant, and what he apparently relayed to GameSpot is that at some point, all new PlayStation 3 releases -- both first- and third-party -- will feature Trophies. Sony has clarified that Trophy patches for existing games are the responsibility of the games' respective publishers and developers, and we should not expect to "ultimately" enjoy a complete catalog with Trophy support. Insomniac has already pledged its intent to stay focused on Resistance 2, passing up the invitation to add Trophies to its previous titles, the first Resistance and Ratchet and Clank Future. Also joining the "much too late" camp, are Infinity Ward and 2K Games, both releasing statements (here & here) that affirm there are no plans to add Trophies to Call of Duty 4 and Civilization Revolution. (Though we doubt that it will ever be reflected on the back of the box; as it is on our mock-up above.)

After receiving word that Burnout Paradise creator Criterion Games and Uncharted's developer, Naughty Dog, were planning on supporting their games with trophies patches soon, we were getting quite optimistic about most games receiving the feature. Today, however, three developers have come out to say that they won't be doing so. Namely, Infinity Ward (Call of Duty 4), Insomniac (Resistance and Ratchet & Clank) and 2K Games (Civilization Revolution). Both Infinity Ward and 2K Games posted the news on their forums, clearly stating that trophies will not be coming out for these titles. As for Insomniac, their Community Relations Manager, Bryan Intihar, responded to comments on the PlayStation Blog yesterday, stating that "currently, there are no plans to add trophies to R1 and RCF. Right now, our No. 1 focus is finishing R2 and making it the best game possible." If you're particularly optimistic, you can hope that they'll work on a patch after Resistance 2 is out. It would be nice, but we won't hold our breath.Source - "No trophies in Call of Duty 4" @ InfinityWard.comSource - Forum post @ 2KGames.comSource - Bryan Intihar's comment response @ PlayStation Blog[Via MCV]

If you were lucky (or unlucky) enough to install PS3 firmware 2.40 before it was yanked by Sony, you'll definitely want to check out PS3 Fanboy's first-ever PlayStation Trophy guide. It's only fitting that their guide is for the first-ever Trophy-enabled game, Super Stardust HD. Be the first person on your friends list to unlock 'em all – check it out!

We finally unlocked all the Trophies for Super Stardust HD. As the first game available with Trophy support, many are jumping online to boost their PlayStation level. With 9 Bronze, 6 Silver and 2 Gold Trophies, we're sure this is going to keep many occupied for quite some time. Here's our guide to unlock all the Trophies. Good luck!Hero of Lave - Complete planet LaveBronze | Difficulty: Very EasyAll Arcade mode Trophies can be earned in Easy mode. We recommend that you play on that difficulty to make it easier to get the Trophies you want. For this Trophy, simply beat the first level. Having trouble with the boss? Make sure you focus on only one weak point at a time. You should be able to destroy one weak point before he does his spin attack. His spin will vacuum space debris, so you may want to keep your distance in the early parts of this battle. The Trophy will unlock once you start the next level.

After it was announced that Uncharted and, well, "every game" for the PS3 will receive Trophies, many expected Insomniac's two titles would be on the shortlist of receiving updates in the "foreseeable future." Sadly, Insomniac's Bryan Intihar expresses on the PlayStation Blog that Ratchet and Clank Future and Resistance: Fall of Man aren't getting Trophy updates soon.Intihar writes that there are currently no plans to add Trophies because the company's "No. 1 focus" is finishing up Resistance 2. We're disappointed, but we'll take this to mean Insomniac isn't dismissive of Trophies and giving it over to the summer intern as busy work.

  • Uncharted and 'every game' getting PS3 Trophies

PSN director of operations, Eric Lampel, has confirmed that Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune will receive a Trophy update "at some point in the foreseeable future." In fact, Lampel told GameSpy, "Ultimately, we'll have trophies for every game." But ultimately is without a deadline currently, suggesting Trophy patches will be trickling out for the, um, foreseeable future. Still, we imagine Sony is leaning on certain studios to allocate resources to Trophy building asap. Certainly there's a greater demand for Trophy support in Uncharted than in, let's say, Genji: Days of the Blade. Then again, an actual, historically accurate award for sticking the giant crab's weak point might be reason enough to procure Genji from a dusty bargain bin and suffer through the ill-fated launch title. Massive Damage Trophy? We so want that one. [Via PS3 Fanboy]

  • Trophy timestamps are 'translated' when comparing with friends

Click for higher resolution Trophies brought with them a level of competitiveness that hasn't been available on the PS3 before today. That's why we're certain that some of you are going to be ferociously comparing your trophies with your pals'. Each trophy is timestamped with the exact minute that you obtained it, so even if you and your friends have exactly the same number, you can see who got each one first. But what happens when your friend lives in a different timezone? Thankfully, this is not an issue. All times are converted over to your timezone whenever you compare trophies with anyone on your friends list. You can clearly see this in the high resolution version of the image above. Despite Jeff being 8 hours behind, the time still states that we got our hands on the trophy before him. Not that we're bragging, or anything.

  • TripleTags.com gamercards to include trophy support

One of the best thing about achievements and Gamerscore on the Xbox 360 is the ability to show it off to the world through the use of gamercards. These embeddable image files (example, above) allowed players to show off their recently played games, and their ever-growing Gamerscores. According to a recent post on TripleTags.com, the popular (but unofficial) source for PS3 gamercards will be getting support for trophies too. Hopefully, this will mean that players will no longer have to manually edit their gamercards with new games. Instead, a new API should allow the gamercard to update automatically with your recent trophy-enabled games and PlayStation level.(Also, wouldn't it be great if PS3 Fanboy profile pages could show this kind of info? Maybe if you leave enough comments, we can bother our programmers to do exactly that!)

Want more trophies? Firmware 2.40 isn't even out yet (though it should be only a matter of hours at this point) and we've already have Criterion reveal that Burnout Paradise will be patched in at some point "soon." Now, in a post-announcement interview with GameSpy, Eric Lempel has revealed that Uncharted will also get a trophy patch in "the foreseeable future". No other details were mentioned but no doubt we'll hear more about Naughty Dog's plans on the PlayStation Blog. Hopefully, fairly soon.

  • Burnout Paradise to receive retroactive PlayStation Trophies

With nine days to go until Criterion's crazy-fast racer gets an infusion of new content via the "Codename: Cagney" update, designer Simon Phipps has confirmed on the PlayStation Blog that the game will also receive support for PlayStation Trophies "soon." He says that Trophy support won't be part of "Cagney," which will introduce 70 timed Freeburn challenges for the game's online component. In a surprise turn, Phipps also revealed that Criterion was "thinking ahead" and the Trophies will, in fact, be retroactive, meaning that players will receive them for feats already performed in the game. This is, according to Phipps, possible because of the way Burnout Paradise save data is linked to players' PSN accounts, which also means it won't be happening in other PS3 games en masse.

A second Burnout Paradise post has appeared on the PlayStation Blog. Mostly this post, by Criterion's Simon Phipps, discusses the upcoming Timed Challenges. These are just one facet of the upcoming free Cagney update and consist of seventy new Freeburn Challenges to take part in online. For more information on those, be sure to check out the latest PlayStation Blog post. While this is all very exciting, the most interesting piece of news in the post is the official word that Criterion are planning to incorporate trophies into the game "soon." They won't be included in the Cagney update, but they will be coming separately. We're not sure whether that means they'll be a part of the next update (the one beginning with D) or whether they'll be patched in on their own, but we're looking forward to seeing them arrive. Hopefully we'll hear more developers confirm their trophy plans over the next few weeks.[UPDATE] Thanks to Phipps' response to the PlayStation Blog comments we now know that Burnout Paradise's trophies will work retroactively. This is thanks to the unique way that the game saves data via the PlayStation Network linked to your account. Don't expect this to be a common occurrence.

With the help of PSN director of operations, Eric Lampel, PlayStation.Blog has compiled a Firmware v2.40 FAQ, answering many of our most common questions. In most cases, with "No." Voice messaging? No. In-game web browsing? Negative. In-game display settings? Nope. In-game shopping? Uh-uh. In-game music streaming? Pfft. Cross-game invites? Sorry. Well, okay, what about Trophies -- will they make a funky little noise when unlocked (like Achievements!)? Of course not ... er, wait a minute: "I got an email from Eric asking me to update this post; there *will* be a sound effect when a user unlocks a trophy. You'll be hearing it soon enough. Hopefully a lot."%Gallery-26426%[Via PS3 Fanboy] Check out more information about Firmware 2.40's features, including the Trophy system and video of the in-game XMB in action.

Good grief. We received more tips about this than any other aspect of firmware 2.40, including yesterday's walkthrough videos. We'll take that to mean that many of you guys are as pleased as we are to hear that not only will unlocking a trophy bring up a visual notification in the top right hand corner of the screen, but an aural alert will also play. This has been confirmed by an update to the FAQ on the PlayStation Blog. This completes the trophy experience and considerably lowers the chances of us missing a trophy notification when we're particularly engrossed in a game. The question is, what does it sound like? We'll find out tomorrow when the firmware goes live.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

You've probably read our Firmware 2.40 post (if not, do!), where we go in depth with the new in-game XMB and Trophies system, but there's nothing quite like seeing it in motion. Thankfully, the second Firmware 2.40 video is up now on the PlayStation.Blog and, this time, Eric Lempel guides you through the wonderful world of Trophies. In our opinion, Trophies look pretty hot. From the overall premise, to the way the comparing of Trophies with friends is implemented so that you can see what games you and your friends own. Not only that, but the "You got a Trophy" message is exactly how we would want it to be. The only thing we have to wonder is, will there be some satisfying sound effect to accompany the message? So there you have it. Firmware 2.40 has been fully revealed and will be available to download on July 2nd. Yeah, that's the day after tomorrow. There's no word on when older games will be patched to incorporate Trophies, but believe us when we say we'll be hounding publishers until they tell us. Most future games will support Trophies out of the box, including PSN downloads. So, what do you think?
