The latest shred of evidence comes courtesy of Tom Holland’s Instagram (as well as the official Uncharted Twitter account), where he shared a picture of him in full Nathan Drake costume. Holland has quite the young face in general, but he by and large looks the part — and the whole vibe of the shot screams “Uncharted” in a pretty satisfying way. Providing even more evidence that the Uncharted film is a real thing, Nolan North posted some photos from a set visit today on Twitter.

The directorial merry-go-round of Sony's long-gestating Uncharted movie has seemingly made another stop, this time to let Travis Knight on to try and finally make the film happen. Deadline reports the director of the well-regarded Kubo and the Two Strings and the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee is in talks with Sony Pictures over the movie, which is set to star Tom Holland.

Sony is still planning on bringing the popular Uncharted franchise to theaters, but it's going to have to find new director to make it happen. Dan Trachtenberg had signed on to direct the project but stepped down, according to Deadline. Sony hasn't picked a replacement yet but plans to have a new person to head up the project picked by the end of this summer. Production is set to start sometime early next year.

Things are looking up for the eternally-in-production film adaptation of Uncharted, as the Hollywood Reporter claims Oscar-winning screenwriter Mark Boal has been tapped to work on the film's screenplay. Though you may not recognize the name, Boal's writing chops are no secret. Not only did he win an Academy Award for writing The Hurt Locker, he's also earned numerous awards and nominations from film critics around the world for his work as both screenwriter and producer on 2012's Zero Dark Thirty. That said, it remains to be seen how Boal's talents will translate to the Uncharted film. Instead of writing the script himself, The Hollywood Reporter claims that Boal joins the production to "do a three-week production polish" on an existing script penned by Safe House screenwriter David Guggenheim. Assuming everything goes smoothly, Uncharted director Seth Gordon remains committed to start filming the movie in early 2015, with plans for a June 2016 theatrical debut. [Image: Sony]

Uncharted hero Nathan Drake will officially make his silver screen debut on June 10, 2016, according to Sony Pictures. According to Deadline, that release date was originally earmarked for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, but the studio has decided to delay that film to 2018. "June 10 is a great date for Uncharted," said Doug Belgrad, president of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group. "It's just the right place for this exciting action-adventure film." Despite this newly-revealed launch date, the Uncharted film has yet to cast an actor for the role of Nathan Drake, though Deadline believes Sony is once again trying to persuade Mark Wahlberg to sign on. As we reported earlier this year, King of Kong director Seth Gordon has been tapped to helm the adaptation, though, knowing Hollywood, there's still plenty of time for that to change. [Image: Sony]

Like a lot of movies based on games, the Uncharted adaptation has been years in the not-much-making. Now, director Seth Gordon sounds unnervingly confident filming will begin around the start of next year. "I think very early next year. That's the plan," Gordon told Zap2it. The King of Kong director added, "That's like tomorrow, essentially, because the prep is so complicated for that movie."

Seth Gordon, the man behind The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, is the latest director in talks to helm the Uncharted movie. Deadline reported on Tuesday that production company Arad/Atlas Entertainment brought Gordon on to direct a new script from David Guggenheim. Gordon has three non-documentary films to his credit, none of which are action films in the vein of Uncharted. Horrible Bosses was well-received enough to earn a sequel, but Four Christmases and last year's Identity Thief sport Rotten Tomatoes ratings of 19 percent and 25 percent, respectively. Guggenheim's most recent credits include Safe House, the Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington flop, and Stolen, the Nicholas Cage-fueled Taken clone. The Uncharted movie has had strong talent attached in the past. David O. Russell, the man behind Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, signed on to direct a version starring his regular collaborator Mark Wahlberg back in 2010, but abandoned the movie by 2011. In the years since, the film's hopped between multiple writers and directors. Neil Burger, director of Bradley Cooper thriller Limitless, took over then dropped out before scriptwriting duties shuffled to Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, the writing duo behind National Treasure. Producer Avi Arad has plans for more than one video game adaptation: He is also working with Kojima Productions on a Metal Gear Solid movie. [Image: Naughty Dog]

Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, the screenwriting duo behind the National Treasure movies (along with Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and the story for Bad Boys II) are signed on to do a rewrite of the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune movie script, which seems just a bit on the nose. The news is from Variety, who also reports that Limitless director Neil Burger is no longer attached to the project, with a new choice pending completion of the script. Hopefully Arad Productions can find a director who's worked on movies about dudes hunting for ancient treasure, because that's apparently the criterion.

Many fans of the Uncharted series flipped when director David O. Russell said he planned to turn the film version of the games into a story about a family of art thieves. Sure, gaming fans having beef with a game movie isn't so rare, but we relished the news that Russell left the project in late May. After what seemed like a major setback, Sony wasted no time playing ketchup: Meat the new writer and director of the Uncharted movie, Neil Burger. Not familiar? Lettuce bring you up to speed: Burger is perhaps best known in the film medium for his work as the director of Limitless, a recent Bradley Cooper picture about a man addicted to a pill that makes him a genius. (The film also starred Patricia Kalember, "Patty" to her friends). It's unknown whether Mark Wahlberg will remain in the starring roll, but, for what it's worth, we think Burger's last leading man would be a fine fit, especially if he mustard up the charisma required to play Drake. Sounds like it could be a well done film to us, we'll grill them on it and let you know what we hear.

Talk about missing out on a climax! Here we were working up a nice head of rich, foamy hatred for David O. Russell's upcoming film adaptation of the Uncharted series, and the guy goes and quits on the whole project! If you'll remember, Russell (director of The Fighter and Three Kings) had planned to tell a story about a family of art thieves and call it "Uncharted," for reasons we still can't grok. No reason was given in the exclusive Variety report, but we're hoping for a two-word release on the subject later that simply reads "Sanity prevailed." [Thanks, Tyler C.]

David O. Russell is currently making headlines as the Academy Award-nominated director of The Fighter. But gamers are probably more interested in one of his next projects: a silver screen adaptation of the Uncharted series. The numerous changes made to the core story have some fans concerned that Russell simply doesn't get it. Responding to those accusations, Russell told SlashFilm that he's "played the game a bunch of times" and has even met Naughty Dog's Amy Hennig. "As far as I'm concerned, I'm very respectful as far as the core content and spirit of the game." Russell argues that "there's not a bunch of movies you can point to that are made from games that are amazing movies, that stand up to time as a franchise or as [individual films]." By focusing on "what I think is going to be an amazing movie," Russell says that "it's going to be real, it's going to be raw, it's going to be intense, it's going to be original, and it's going to be propulsive." (And he apparently doesn't know who Nathan Fillion is.)

The push-and-pull saga of the Uncharted film adaptation continues, as David O. Russell has informed Empire Online that he's still working on the script (despite reports to the contrary). He also reaffirmed that he wants both Mark Wahlberg and Robert De Niro to star in the film. Speaking of the film's female roles, Russell noted that he has "cultivated" the character of Elena "quite a bit." Said Russell, "I love the woman characters and the more robust they are, the more robust the movie." When asked if Amy Adams would fit the role, Russell stated that he would "love" her in the part (Adams recently worked with Russell on The Fighter). Another name mentioned by Russell: One Scarlett Johansson. Of course, Russell seems to be overlooking the obvious. One word: Streep. Come on David, she's box office gold!

You guys have got to stop playing with our emotions. First we hear Mark Wahlberg is definitely playing Nathan Drake in an Uncharted movie being created by The Fighter director David O. Russell. Then, Uncharted 3 director Justin Richmond told us that Russell had denied the whole story. Now, Wahlberg tells Moviehole "David O'Russell [sic] is writing right now and hopes to direct. It's myself, Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro." Listen guys, we know we want to write a maelstrom of angry tweets about this project, but we need to know precisely what unseen force we'll be railing against. Can you please just help us out and tell us specifically who will be to blame for ruining Uncharted for us forever? [Thanks Andrew T.]

Just what was that puzzling David O'Russell quote, referencing a "family dynamic" in the Uncharted movie, all about, I asked Uncharted 3 game director Justin Richmond at a recent press event. He laughed. "First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell," Richmond said. "He actually called us up and was like, 'I don't know what these guys are talking about.'" And Mark Wahlberg isn't anywhere near to being confirmed to play Nathan Drake either -- it's just Hollywood scuttlebutt, apparently. Still, I dutifully told Richmond that the Joystiq Biomass had chosen, and Nathan Fillion has our vote. Message received, Richmond responded. With that important tidbit out of the way, we moved on to discussing the game: Uncharted 3 has the Cintamani Stone-sized task of living up to its predecessors, and Richmond and his team are busy implementing improvements across the board, subtle as they might appear. "The big thing is that we switched lighting engines between [Uncharted] 1 and 2, and we're keeping the same lighting engine now," he explained. "So we've already got all of those advancements. Now we're just refining them." %Gallery-111529%

  • David O. Russell talks about his vision for the Uncharted movie

We're gonna deliver this news quickly, like the hasty removal of a Band-Aid: David O. Russell's Mark Wahlberg-fronted Uncharted film adaptation isn't off to an awesome start. After Wahlberg confirmed his involvement last week, Russell spoke to the LA Times about his vision for the film, saying: "This idea really turns me on that there's a family that's a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities ... [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice ... We'll have the family dynamic, which we've done in a couple of movies now. And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That's a really cool idea to me." Russell added that the pace at which the film's development is moving along is "a locomotive," and that he's already penned about half of the script -- meaning there's plenty of time to just like, sit back, spend some time with the two already very movie-like Uncharted games, and just like, reevaluate some stuff. Specifically, all of that stuff you said right there, about a family that doles out justice to museum owners. That whole ... part. Everything. All of it. As a fun experiment, we added some other, totally made-up quotes about other film projects Mr. Russell (O'Russell?) might be interested in. Join us!

According to a recent tweet, it looks like Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion wants to fill the shoes of Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie. With director David O. Russell reportedly back on the project and a first draft script apparently finished, Fillion implored his fans to rise to the occasion. Tweeted Fillion, "If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it. Rise, ye Browncoats. Rise, ye Castillions. RISE!" We will, Cap'n Mal. We will. Director David O. Russell has had a very on-and-off relationship with the film adaptation of Naughty Dog's Uncharted series -- in that he was once on the film, and then he was off of it. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Russell has signed back on to the film as director, temporarily sidelining his other upcoming project, a film remake of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Dude's got taste when it comes to his choice of projects, we'll give him that. The report doesn't mention whether or not Russell's rejoining of the crew means the film will make its initial 2011 release window. Nor does it mention whether our heart's wish will come true, and get Charlie Sheen to star as the series' ill-tucked protagonist, Nathan Drake. Think about it! He's perfect.

David O. Russell, director of Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees and Spanking the Monkey, is no longer being considered for the job of directing the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune movie. The LA Times reports that Sony-owned Columbia Pictures, the movie's producers and Russell were unable to reach terms satisfactory to all parties, and now the studio has to start looking for directing talent once again, while also searching for lead actors. The Times' Steven Zeitchik speculates that the delay caused by the lost director scuttles any chance Sony had of having the movie done in time for a 2011 release. At this rate, it'll probably coincide with the release of Uncharted 4: Baby Drake's Crystal Crawl. That's right, we're calling it now: Naughty Dog's going to change up the gameplay with a tale from Nate Drake's infancy.

Things have been quiet in regards to Nathan Drake's death-defying (yet impeccably animated!) leap from video games to film, but the LA Times reports that may be changing. The paper says director David O. Russell (of I Heart Huckabees fame) is in early talks to bring the Uncharted franchise to the big screen, though he's reportedly not the only name on the list. Our friendly advice to the film's producers: It was already made, it starred the charming pairing of Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey and it was called Fool's Gold. Now, make your peace with that fact and move on. [Via Slashfilm]
