  • WoW Moviewatch: Horde, Episode 1

Pinkhair dug deep into the archives of WoW machinima to recommend this gem. Horde - Episode 1: "That's how we role!" is parody of popular movies from yesteryear. When a group of strangers are jailed for not roleplaying on Maelstrom, they are assigned an essay to identify themselves. What role will each of them fulfill?I have to say that I didn't pick up on the cues as to what movie they were mainly referring to until the very end. If you are a fan of 80s movies, I think that you'll find this movie pretty amusing. Due to this being a guild-based movie, Slurvin was unable to create a sequel, as the group broke up afterwards. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing another comedy like this, commercials and all, in the future.[Thanks, Pinkhair!]Previously on Moviewatch ...

Chrille just released another Fat Cow to his PvP series. Fat Cow V contains duels against hunters, warlocks, rogues, 2v2 with frostmages, 3v3 with priests and warriors, and world PvP, as well as some artsy scenes. I would link to a high-quality version, but Stage6 ruined Christmas.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...Read on about why Stage6 gets a lump of coal this year ...

It looks like Fishface went a little filter-happy this weekend. He created Streamline, a short music video based on the Pendulum song by the same name. As Baron Soosdon said on the video page, it would be a lot better if the cuts were in sync with the music. In addition, the L70ETC band didn't really fit in with the type of music that he used.Otherwise, I found it to be enjoyable. There's not much of a plot to go on, so just sit back and enjoy the billions of color filters that he applied. If you liked Streamline, check out the high resolution version![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

Voodooray has been a busy guy this week. Fresh off the success of Voyage comes lolwowcats, a condensed history of WoW ... illustrated with lolcats. I'm not much of a fan of captioned kittens, but I know that they have a devoted fanbase, so here you go![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

DG Productions wants to remind you that when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. Unfortunately, they chose Good Charlotte as the soundtrack to motivate you. At this point, I'd rather be wallowing in my own self-pity than listen to that. It's a good thing that I'm happy!Aside from the music, I actually liked this machinima. I thought that some of the transitions were strange, though, and I'm not sure what was up with the cow humping. From the WoW machinimator that brought you 300 Moonkins comes Voyage, a mixed-media adventure. Voodooray blended music, machinima, and clips from both music videos and real movies to create an alternate reality. In fact, it's so convincing that he had to post what he did to it for us to believe him!He included scenes from 300, Underworld, and two different music videos. In some of them, he even digitally removed the real actors! Look out for cameos by Salma Hayek, Baron Soosdon's Nikita, and a crazy looking bird.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

I could try to explain this movie, but I'm not sure if that's possible. The first time I viewed the latest video in the How to Paladin series, my jaw was on the floor the entire time. If you have some kind of insight into what goes on in Shepiwot's head, please let me know.Htp Insanity remix is almost six minutes of head scratching, seizure inducing machinima. He really has a gift for finding epic music and getting the timing down, but how does he come up with this stuff? Be on the lookout for his next video, How to paladin: Driven to Insanity remix. I'm kidding ... I think.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

One of the best machinimas created in World of Warcraft was actually made almost three years ago, and still lives on in machinimators today. With over 20,000 videos uploaded to Warcraftmovies, Here Without You, by Dimoroc, was one of the first 1200. Many filmmakers have since tried to replicate the raw emotion evoked in this video, but few have succeeded. Here Without You centers around the origin of a Forsaken, from how he came to be, to how he's haunted by his past. Using only music and interactions, instead of dialogue, Dimoroc was able to create a moving display of love. After posting this video, he disappeared, which is a real shame, because he helped pave the way for so many talented machinimators after him.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]

This machinima is almost three years old, yet it still holds up today. Here Without You, by Dimoroc, doesn't have special effects, a flashy intro, or even any dialogue. It tells the story of a Forsaken and how they became that way. Using music and powerful scenes, he is able to convey emotion that I did not think possible of World of Warcraft. The story of Dimoroc himself is a mystery. He showed up at Warcraftmovies, uploaded this one video, and then disappeared shortly after. Almost two years later, he popped up under a different account to thank everyone for their comments, then disappeared again. However, present or not, he has left a lasting impression on the WoW machinima community. If you're out there, Dimoroc, thank you for creating one of the few machinimas that made me cry!Previously on Moviewatch ...

In January 2006, a group of friends, including Dopefish and Malu05, decided to create a community machinima project, Nogg-aholic Collaboration, or NAC, to showcase World of Warcraft in ways that they felt had not been done before. Named after the time period in which it was filmed, February 2006, My Burning Valentine was intended to highlight what NAC was all about, as well as its guidelines. However, the more that they explored the depths of their creativity, the less that they wanted to show off this film!As they continued to add to the guidelines for NAC, the release date was being pushed farther back. In the end, their interest waned, so they closed down the forum and moved on, leaving this video behind as a memory. For further explanation of the project, as well as more clips, check out Dopefish's video page for My Burning Valentine.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

Yesterday's Moviewatch focused on too much of a good thing, but today's post is about not enough! Kangarooster posted an epic trailer for I is Legendary, the World of Warcraft version of I am Legend. If this is indeed his first machinima, then I'm impressed. While he used the original music from the movie and voiceover by Will Smith, he found some interesting ways to illustrate the loneliness of the lead character. I particularly enjoyed the golfing bit and the scene with the zombie creatures. I think that he should recreate the entire film in WoW![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

Machinimators have quickly learned that if they want special 3D animations or sets done, Pinkhair is the man for the job. Previously known for his Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest entry that narrowly missed being in the top three, he has helped artists such as BaronSoosdon and Ian Beckman in his spare time.In honor of Olibith receiving double platinum on WCM for "I'm only sleeping", Pinkhair finished a timelapse of the saucy filmmaker using Lightwave. He has stated that if there is interest in learning how to do it, he may post a tutorial. If you would like to see a tutorial, join #machinima on Quakenet IRC and let him know! In today's Cinemassively, Stamp answers the age old question of what would happen if your World of Warcraft characters jumped out of your computer. By the end of this video, you won't care who stole the beer, or why the door was left open a crack when you swore that you shut it. You'll be too busy oohing and aahing at how adorable the WoW avatars looked in every scene.Stamp used quite a lot of programs to achieve this effect, including WoW model viewer, Sony Vegas, Windows Movie Maker, Virtual Dub, and Particle Illusion. However, in this Machinima, they blend really well together. My only complaint is that those little jailbirds didn't invite me to the party![Via Warcraftmovies.com]

Bobble & friends - An IRL adventure is quite possibly the cutest WoW machinima I've seen so far. The idea of the short is to show you what happens when your characters break free into the real world. Apparently, they go straight for the TV ... That's so typical!Stamp did a great job on this video. It's creative, smart, and well put together. He used quite a bit of programs to assemble it, even adding percentages used in the credits. Warcraftmovies viewers compare it to Toy Story, so I hope that means there's a sequel in the works![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

This next machinima has a bit of everything. Spash is part battlegrounds, part raid, and part ... Shepiwot? The result is an entertaining blend of WoW gameplay.Stefan Frameus did a good job for his first public effort. The soundtrack is interesting, to say the least. He went crazy on the pan and crop, but I think it's a rite of passage in the machinima community to use every plugin and effect when you start out. I'm looking forward to the next video![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

This next machinima, Shpongle - Once Upon the Time of Blissful Awareness, doesn't have the fancy WarcraftMovies intro, or even a thumbnail. It's no Baron or Yume, but what it does have is heart. It's a great first attempt. You can tell that bawavax tried his best, which is more than I can say for some first efforts. Aside from going a little effect happy in certain spots, I really enjoyed his use of Particle Illusion in various elements. Hopefully he'll refine his technique and come out with something even better soon![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

There has been such a positive response to the How to Paladin posts! I thought I'd take you back to where it all began. Shepiwot posted his first video in March 2007, shocking the community with what he described as "senseless uselessness."On this Super Bowl Sunday, make it a Shepiwot day. It's taken Shepiwot only 10 months to create 26 How to Paladin videos, as well as several spinoffs. He's received countless death threats and plenty of discouragement, but he keeps on going. Love or hate them, they're like an accident that you can't look away from. If I had to categorize his movies, I'd place them in the "WTF" genre. In Episode 26, Shepiwot goes to Naxxramas. He's included everything that you've come to expect from a Shepiwot original. There's epic music, epic hopping, epic cliff jumping, epic camera spinning, and epic ... epic. That's all I've got. Any guesses on when he'll reach 100?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

Jack, of Easy Productions, has come out with Burning Crusade The Movie.BCTM is an action-packed 30+ minute Machinima that features 25-man armies in four full dungeons with 24 bosses! Not only is it nice to see who you may be up against in the future, but it's presented in a cinematic way. Bakasavant Productions has finished another episode of Chronicle of the Annoying Quest! The good guys are getting further in their quest, but experience some setbacks, including a cavity search. The bad guys are also hindered by their female companion's vanity. In the end, a meeting takes place between the elders and the recruits, where they are tasked with stopping Juran. This series is far from flashy, but I find it enjoyable. While they may not use many special effects, and the voice acting could definitely use work, they consistently produce solid episodes. Look out for a cameo by Drewbie, of The Grind series, at 4:25! If you liked Episode 20, check out the high quality version.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...
