I'm not a big fan of PvP movies. If you've seen one, you've most likely seen them all, as many choose to plainly display the action. However, if I had to watch one, it would be Vurtne 5.Vurtne released a teaser for the fifth machinima in his successful PvP series. The way he used transitions and effects kept things interesting for me. I don't think the music suited the video, though. With that said, I'm looking forward to the final release of the film![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

Selserene is going to be the "IT" girl of 2008. She took fifth place with her first Machinima during the Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest, then she got right back to work on her epic film noir, In for a Penny. It is going to be released in two parts, with the first being the Prologue. The second part has no scheduled release date yet, despite the poster in the movie showing Spring 2008. If you enjoyed the video, you can download the high quality version. The Prologue focuses on a lost girl that stumbles into a shady club. What she witnesses transports her into a black and white world where all is not what it seems. It looks like sex, lies, and murder are on the menu of IFAP. I can't wait![Via Warcraftmovies.com]

I'm a firm believer that artists need encouragement, or they won't know what they did right or wrong. They won't be able to improve their work and, with nothing but silence or discouragement, they might not make another video. It would be hard to find production-quality WoW machinimas with storylines, or special effects, every day of the year. Those are just the special gems. With that said, Geis Archrion, creator of The Captured Exarch, works on improving his craft with each video. The machinima focuses on the suicide of a man, who leaves behind a mysterious note. Athanatoi, a scouting mercenary guild, must decipher it in order to figure out the next target of The Essence. There's plenty of action, and just enough of a cliffhanger to make me want to see what he does with his next video. While the camera work is shaky and the voice acting is rough, it's not that bad.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

When a young gnome's mother is kidnapped, she must quest all over the world to find her. Pieces of a map are hidden on the bodies of her foes, and she won't know where her mother is until she gets every last one. Aneychen, by Tianmi, is an epic comic book style machinima that peppers in PvE and PvP.I really enjoyed the comic book parts of the story, but the fight scenes were ridiculously long. In addition, it has a mostly electronic soundtrack, but then, out of nowhere, a My Chemical Romance song appears! I definitely think that Aneychen could benefit from a makeover that puts it at around 5-10 minutes.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

When I first saw Selserene's Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest entry, I knew that she would be someone to watch in 2008. Her latest video, In for a Penny: Prologue, certainly doesn't prove me wrong. The editing is brilliant, the storyline is engaging, and well, it's just awesome. As always, if you liked the movie, you can download the high quality version. When a clueless blonde ends up in the wrong part of town, she uncovers a seedy underworld like no other. A seductive belf temptress lures a strapping belf lad to bed, which leads him to discover a body outside. When the police arrive, he is falsely arrested for the crime. It's a little too convenient if you ask me. Hell hath no fury like a belf woman scorned. I guess we'll have to wait for the movie to come out this Spring! [Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

After watching Arithmomania yesterday, I decided to dig into the vault and discovered that we hadn't featured Yume before that! Today, we're highlighting Damaged Dreams, an older music video of his. I declare this a Yume weekend.Damaged Dreams was completed in October 2007, and it's not as polished as Arithmomania, but I'm not sure that it was meant to be. The song is edgy and you can feel the beats in each lightning-fast cut that he makes. An interesting tidbit is that he filmed it all in Burning Crusade, without the help of the model or map viewers. There are too many favorite scenes to list here, so you'll have to watch for yourself. If you enjoyed it, check out the high-resolution version![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

Artists like Yume, the creator of Arithmomania, and Baron Soosdon are proving that you don't need a storyline to produce a quality machinima. With a heart pumping soundtrack provided by Dogzilla, Yume uses a variety of transitions and filters that would normally bog down a movie. Here, it all fits into place. You won't find much of a point to this video, but if looking upon the vast scenery of WoW makes you sentimental, you'll definitely enjoy it. The editing is right on target, and the filters are applied to coincide with the music. I'd have to say that my two favorite scenes involved the spinning stats, and the split screens that slowly moved in opposite directions. If you liked Arithmomania, definitely check out the high-res version.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

Raid Quest, A Waste of Times Production, is about a high-level player, Heltrskelter, that tries to convince his buddy, Rastlin, that they can take on a low-level raid quest all by themselves. After much arguing back and forth, the friend relents. As predicted, death is swift and merciless. While the voice acting is horrible, and the storyline is obvious, it's not that bad for a first effort. The editing is pretty on point, even if he went a little filter happy in the beginning. Overall, I found the video interesting and I'd like to see what he does next.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

The Last Death Knight is your typical story of good versus evil. Long ago, humans were on the verge of extinction. To combat the dark forces, the last remaining created an Order to protect them. However, when they were ambushed, a father was able to help his son escape before meeting his fate. Years later, having been raised by night elves, he is ready to avenge the death of his father.Apparently the machinimator, Reed, created this movie in the Summer of 2006, but forgot about it until now. He is currently packaging up the film for a Summer 2008 release. Unlike some movies, which give everything away in the trailers, this one begins when the boy is grown and kicking buttocks. I think it has potential![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

When an orc suddenly finds himself unfrozen after years of being trapped in his icy dungeon, he has plenty of questions for his accidental rescuer, Patchie,an enterprising goblin. Starting at patch 1.05, Patchie attempts to catch the orc up to speed on everything that's happened, while simultaneously putting him to work. As their stories unfold, we find out how the orc came to be frozen, and about Patchie's ethics, which are questionable at best. The AFK Pl@yers created The Patchie Chronicles in December to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of World of Warcraft launching in Taiwan. Despite Patchie's flaws, I was so taken by the character that I suggested they base a whole series around him! Is there a character in a Machinima that you'd like to see a series about?[Via Warcraftmovies.com]

Selserene, the machinimator responsible for the fifth place entry in the Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest, has released a trailer for her upcoming machinima, In for a Penny. IFAP is a film noir that will be broken into two parts, consisting of the prologue, and the movie itself. However, you can enjoy her teaser trailer, which does not reflect on the entire movie, now! Set in black and white, a sexy blood elf lady is watched by a gnome playing a piano. While it's raining outside, she decides to get a little freaky in the bedroom. As a side note, while working on this scene, Selserene discovered that blood elf males are about as "equipped" as a Ken doll!Previously on Moviewatch...

Twenty years after "Welcome to the Jungle" was released, Axl Rose is making a comeback ... as an orc. When a woman is sexually harassed by guards, a mysterious man comes to her rescue. As they make a run for it, Guns N' Roses takes to the Warcraft stage to perform their hit song.Revenge is sweet, and so is this music video. David Ciavarella did an amazing job on the editing, creating a visually stunning scene. While I wish there were more of a storyline to it, I do love the cut scenes of the band rocking out. I highly recommend viewing the high resolution version. He also gives us a preview of what will be his final machinima film, "The Hunt." (Today's Moviewatch was previously intended to be the premiere of Illegal Danish 2: Escape from Orgrimmar. Unfortunately, Myndflame.com was hacked yesterday and the screening was delayed. As soon as it is up, it will be featured here.)Myndflame is hard at work on a server fix, so you're going to have some extra time on your hands. Chronicle of the Annoying Quest, created by Bakasavant Productions, has 19 episodes for you to peruse! While they're not perfect, lacking in proper voice casting and stunning visuals, the storyline is pretty decent.CotAQ tells the tale of a paladin that joins a Holy Order to get chicks. As he quests to become accepted by his peers, Ellers, and his sidekick, Guy, encounter obstacles along the way. For those of you that are new to the series, there is a recap at the beginning to catch you up.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

I know that there were only three winners to the Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest, but some of the runners up were really good! The fourth place tale was inspired by A Christmas Carol. Pinkhair was limited by the 8 minute maximum rule, so he expanded it a bit for the viewers! Please note that the version on Warcraftmovies is slightly different from this one. When the Robber Baron of Warsong Gulch, Caddington, goes to sleep one night, he is visited by three ghosts. When they attempt to show him his evil ways, he is indifferent. Will he have a change of heart or will he die? Pinkhair did quite a good job for this being his first completed movie. I have a feeling we'll be seeing him in the winners circle in the future![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

However, instead of trapping Santa, as they originally planned, they end up getting stuck with all of the deliveries. It seems as if Santa has decided to take the night off. With Kitty as his trusty steed, Sazabi sets off into the night, but encounters some unexpected problems. If he can survive, he'll be greatly rewarded, but will he pull it off?Kudos go to FireShifT, who took 1st place in the Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest! Today brings us the second place winner of the Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest, Ugly Goblin's Christmas. Firebolt Productions, inspired by the classic book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, have weaved a tale that warmed my heart. With the quality editing and excellent soundtrack, they were able to make the story its own, despite not being an original idea.Kryll is a lonely goblin, holed up in a mountain where no one will bother him, or so he thinks. When the children of the village decide to harass him, he sets a plan in motion that will shock and destroy the townsfolk.
