Canon 18-55mm lens torn open to expose visuals of Image Stabilization (video)
Hey there, snap-shooter. If you've ever used a Canon DSLR with an 18-55mm lens, you may be horrified to know that the image above is its exposed lens elements. Don't worry, though, it's for science! Recently, Preston Scott from Camera Technica used a laser to show how unsteady your hands are when taking a photograph; now he's back to detail how lenses with Image Stabilization compensate to help in achieving crisper images. IS isn't exactly new technology, but seeing how the glass' internal springs, accelerometers, and gyroscopes react to movement is mesmerizing. Not surprisingly, he also found that photos taken with IS deactivated were usually less sharp. Nikon D5000 official pics leak out
Well, well, what do we have here? It seems Nikon's still unannounced D5000 can't seem to wait for an official unveil. Israeli site DTown has published what appears to be legit press photos for the DSLR, with its articulating display vividly highlighted. Also take note the lens being shown is a 18-55mm VR, which is Nikon's term for image stabilization -- it looks like this might be what comes packaged in a bundle. Between this and the product page from earlier today, we think it's safe to conjecture this little guy might be making an appearance at tomorrow's Nikon press event.
