Guess we can forget about ESPN 3D coming to DISH Network any time soon, as the dispute between the satellite company and Disney has escalated to the point that Disney Channel HD, Disney XD HD, ABC Family HD and ESPNews HD have all been removed from the service. They're still available in SD if you really need your The Secret Life of an American Teenager fix, but right now Disney is pointing to a New York State Court ruling from March indicating DISH owes it $65 million, which DISH is appealing. Multichannel News points out there's also a lawsuit between DISH and ESPN still ongoing as well, so we'll have to wait and see if this move helps negotiations along at all.

Comcast is stepping up its busy HD rollout (and channel squeezing) schedule, with several new channels spotted today in the Detroit and Chicago areas. Science HD, Disney HD and ABC Family HD are probably in your local channel guide -- Discovery HD is now listed DSCHD, while Disney is DISHD, confused yet? -- and word is they should hit many other areas Wednesday. Posters at AVSForum indicate more of the 3 channels-on-one-QAM compression tactics are afoot, take a look and let us know if having High School Musical 2 in HD still satisfies.[Thanks, Nathaniel]Read - Detroit, MI HDTVRead - Chicago, IL Comcast

Just days after rival DISH Network added NESN HD to its national high-def lineup, along comes DirecTV to pacify its own subscribers. As of today, Disney Channel HD (290), Toon Disney HD (292) and ESPNews HD (207) have all been added, bringing the grand total of available high-definition channels on the satcaster to 95. Triple digits is in sight, folks.[Thanks, Rob]

Since the most-watched basic cable event ever simply could not be left in standard def, DirecTV is airing High School Musical 2 in HD on August 24. The exclusive broadcast will include three high definition airings with 5.1 surround audio beginning at 6 p.m. If you're somehow unaware of the High School Musical series phenomenon, this is likely caused by not being a girl between the ages of 9-15, or somehow related to one. This preview is just a taste of what to expect when Disney Channel HD launches on DirecTV in early 2008, or when High School Musical 2 is released on Blu-ray in December. We're sure that Zac Efron, Corbin Bleu and the rest are exactly what you had in mind for your new HDTV.
