Gionee's 5.5mm thick smartphone can make calls all day, slice tomatoes
Gionee's trying to stand out from the Huaweis and Oppos of smartphone-mad China with its new Elife S5.5, which it claims is the world's thinnest at 5.5mm. If so, that would edge out the 5.75mm Vivo X3, the current champ (for reference, the iPhone 5s is 7.6mm thick). If "battery life" is the first thing that pops into mind for such a phone, Gionee claims it'll last all day like its (much thicker) flagship, the Elife E7, thanks to a 2300mAh battery. Other than that, it's fairly tame with a 5-inch display of unknown resolution, Gionee's "Amigo" Android-based OS, an unspecified 1.7GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM and 13-megapixel back/5-megapixel front cameras. The 3G model is now up for pre-order in China for around $370, with an LTE version arriving in June. Gionee also said it'll launch in 40 other countries, though eager small-pocketed consumers will have to wait to find out which.
BenQ V2220 claims 'world's slimmest' monitor title
BenQ is on the warpath today, updating its V series and crying from the mountaintops about unbeatable slimness and contrast ratios. We could care less about the supposedly class leading 10,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, but the 15mm thinness on the flagship V2220 certainly intrigues. It's claimed as the thinnest 21.5-inch monitor around and its junior sibling, the 18.5-inch V920, shaves another millimeter of thickness off while claiming the same title for its size class. Naturally, they're supplemented by slightly bulkier 23- and 24-inch varieties (V2320 and V2420, respectively) for those who need the extra room, with H variants offering HDMI and headphone connection options. You can expect 1920 x 1080 (1366 x 768 on the V920) resolution, 250 nits of brightness, 5ms response time and a good 1,000:1 real contrast ratio across the board, with the Taiwan launch set for the next couple of months followed by global availability in June.

Generally speaking, having something "ruggedized" ruins the aesthetic appeal. You trade style for function, and that's been perfectly acceptable until today. The EX-G1, which becomes the first camera in the new EXILIM G line, takes a few cues from Casio's G-SHOCK line while being the planet's thinnest shock-resistant camera. Furthermore, this thing is freezeproof, waterproof and dustproof, and at just 0.78-inches thick, you'll hardly notice it shoved in your left rear pocket. As for specs, you're looking at a 12.1 megapixel sensor, intelligent AF, a dedicated movie mode (848 x 480), 35.7MB of inbuilt memory (yeah, we know), a microSD / microSDHC expansion slot, 3x optical zoom and a 2.5-inch rear LCD with a 960 x 240 resolution. We're told that the rechargeable battery should last for around 300 shots on a full charge, and the Interval Shooting function enables the camera to automatically fire at fixed points when shooting action sports. It'd be downright appalling to ever tote around a keyboard that's thicker than your current laptop, and you can bet the suits in Redmond recognize that. To that end, Microsoft has introduced this ultraslim Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000, which is just barely thicker than an AAA battery at the rear. Naturally, the curved board gets even thinner as it slopes toward the front, though it's the optional number pad that really steals the show in terms of cuteness. The BT-only device utilizes a so-called Comfort Curve design to keep your wrists from cramping up after a few lines of text, and if you're interested in claiming one as your own, get ready to shell out $89.95 when it ships next month. CenTrak intros world's thinnest active RFID, opens new realm of possibilities
Despite being oh-so-promising years ago, we've seen little innovation in the RFID space over the past several months. Today, however, CenTrak's proving that the dream is still somewhat alive. The outfit has just introduced the planet's thinnest hybrid active Radio Frequency Identification tag, which is said to be so thin that it's almost "indistinguishable from a standard employee badge." The IT-740 Staff Badge checks in at just three millimeters thick and includes a trio of programmable buttons, a system controlled LED, hole mounts for portrait or landscape orientation, water resistance for easy cleaning and "ultra long battery-life." For employees, rocking one of these guarantees that your superior will recognize every step you take, every move you make and every bond you break. Chinavasion's "world's thinnest" MP4 player just may be accurate in name
Chinavasion isn't known for offering up cutting-edge gadgetry -- far from it, to be honest -- but the MP4 player known only as the CVSJ-1304-4GB is actually fairly notable. According to the dodgy specifications, the $39.55 device checks in at just 4.5-millimeters thick, which is certainly thinner than the other so-called "world's thinnest" DAP. Of course, this may only be true due to the "MP4" moniker, seeing as most units not created and sold exclusively in China are called "MP3" players. Semantics aside, the unit also includes a 1.8-inch display with a 160 x 128 resolution, a curious 2.5-millimeter headphone jack, a USB 2.0 port and a rechargeable battery. ASUS LS221H: "world's slimmest" 22-inch LCD monitor
Just a day after we were graced with Mother Earth's "most energy-efficient monitor" comes the "world's slimmest" 22-incher. ASUS claims that its LS221H is just 248-millimeters (that's 9.76-inches) at its thinnest point, but unless this thing morphs into a CRT at a moment's notice, we're assuming (read: hoping) it meant 24.8-millimeters, or 0.97-inches. Beyond that, we're trusting that the 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, 2-millisecond response time, 300 nits of brightness, VGA / HDMI inputs and 4,000:1 contrast ratio are all there, but you can never be too careful when talking about the planet's thickest / thinnest LCD. LG claims Scarlet 42LG61 is world's thinnest LCD HDTV with built-in tuner
Maybe our math is off, but we're fairly certain 44.7-millimeters equates to around 1.76-inches. Strangely enough, LG is claiming that its Scarlet 42LG61 is actually the world's thinnest LCD HDTV, and we all know Hitachi's definitively thinner 1.5-inch family just started shipping to US consumers last week. Of course, maybe it just meant the slimmest it has ever produced, but we digress. The set is apparently loose in South Korea, featuring a 1080p panel, 120Hz technology, a 600,000:1 contrast ratio and four HDMI ports. Granted, the previously veiled set won't run you cheap, as you'll walk away ???2.5 million ($2,427) poorer should you choose to take one home.[Via AVing] Update: LG clarified the situation.
